@fastmannnnn If the Audi had permit to take it seriously, there had been no chase. Just some cops who had to explain their chief why they couln´t follow and chase a 73 year old car..
A nasty reminder of a failed ideology and mass murder to millions....OH and by the way very little to do with AUDI .....ENJOY STUPID YANK..............
@sternme It's not built to drive this slowly. Dedicated racing engines like the V16 en V12 from the C and D spec's are meant to rev constantly. Might be a slight miscalculation by the Audi engineers, running that car for that event.
@anfiboli no, these cars at all to do anything with that of Adolf, he wanted to Volkswagen in front and to suppress the Auto-Union, who were playing that is not (he succeeded is not, it was the second largest automobile company of Germany, but unfortunately he was then in the Soviet Union)

Of course, Herr Hitler decreed how fast they were, and that was the speed recorded. Or else. After the War a couple of them tried to duplicate these speeds, and Hmmmmm no good. KPH...like if your're french?
Uh..KPH is used all over the world except for Great Britain and the USA. Miles, feet and inches are leftovers from the middle ages. The metric system is way more logic and scientifically supported. The sole reason the British didn't accept it was because it came from France.
BTW, those cars really were clocked doing 270mph and had more than enough horsepower and low drag to be able to reach them. Hitler had nothing to do with them other than he wanted the LSR to Germany.
Thanks. Getting a car aerodynamically slippery was no sweat really, the real challenge was to get it aerodynamically stable. Back in the 1930's they had little knnowledge of how to counter the lifting forces at such great speeds.
I believe the record from 1938 still is the fastest speed recorded on a public road?
they had a huge knowlege back in 1938 about aerodynamic effect... the Autounion Streamliner was the first groundeffect car in the world... some 30years later Lotus claimed to be the first... which they were not
then how come Rosemeyer lost control of the thing going perfectly straight?
exactly HOW did the Auto Union have ground effect in the same way Lotus had with their sliding skirts and venturi tunnels on their type 78 and 79 cars?
google for pictures and technical drawings of the real high speed cars there you see that the streamliner of today which was used for Avus racing looked completely different to the streamliner with ground effect which was used for record runs..unfortunatily yout tube does not allow adding links..
Bernd Rosemeyer was the firs human ever getting over 400km/h(250mph) on a public road in 1937! In 1938 he tryed to beat the Mercedes W125 public road topspeed record 432.7km/h (268mph) set at the same day. Rosemeyer reached in the second run 429.9km/h and did a third try, at ~430km/h he lost controll because of side winds or a using mistake by Rosemeyer, there were flaps (for engine cooling) that could be open and closed by the driver possible that he opend one which destoryed the groundeffect
I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1930's motor car tobacco cards. Includes early Auto Union and many other makes.
That was the first midengine race car ever (with the fuel between driver and engine to make ith weight balance neutral)... the Formula 1 needed 30 years to get to that standart...which is still used today.. Audi and Mercedes had so powerfull race cars befor ww2 that it needed till the muscle car area that they get close to the power... in the F1 it needed the turbo area to beat the engine power of that old racers.. they reached 270 mph with the Mercedes W12 on public road in 1938...
The Mercedes W125 Rekordwagen made in 1938 on the Autobahn A5 a over 270mph run in two direction over fling km and flying mile. It is still today the fasted speed ever driven on a public road. A 69year old speed record..
The street was closed off for the opening of the new Audi Forum (a storefront to display new Audis). The cop was an escort for the short drive down Park Avenue.
This cars history is amazing...

Definetly serious cash (>10.000.000 €) if it a original car.
Audi has build some replica cars for show puposes.

Bernd Rosemeyer DID 270mph with the Auto Union streamliner in 1937. But he lost control of the car on the return run and was killed.
AlexDeLarge90 3 years ago 7
in 1937. Damn.
turbolover175 3 years ago
1938 not 37. It was his 3rd pass. There were no return runs. A cross wind and aero problems were the cause.
