The only "Christ" part of Christmas is Christ himself. Everything else (Mistletoe, greenery, present giving, the yule log etc) were 'borrowed' from Pagan winter solstice celebrations. December was chosen to incorporate all those traditions in order to convert Pagans more easily. So many ignorant Christians are completely unaware of this. I say happy holidays because in all honesty, it is presumptuous and arrogant to assume everyone is a Christian. It covers all bases, not just Christmas.

I don't care if YOU or anyone else celebrates my American holiday, I simply say, "Merry Christmas," because in America, "Merry Christmas", is what we say. When you are in a foreign country, they have their own salutations and greetings. Basically, the solution to this issue is to say what you want. The problem is, I'M being censored. Screw that.

it's not that we want to separate ourselves, it's that we want everyone to join together. they say it right in the beginning, it's not about a religion entirely, it's about the fact that christmas was formed entirely based on the birth of Christ. you don't see people switching the basis of any other holiday because of "offending" people, do you? no.

However, Christmas is what each of us makes it, and I celebrate Christmas by remembering that Christ was born, as well as remembering that family is most important.

This is dumb; how would you like it if at a public institution in a free country someone said HAPPY Eid Al-Fir! (muslim holiday). It's not about what you believe, it's about what everyone believes, and not everyone believes the same as you.  saying Merry Christmas as an employee of a public institution is against the establishment clause of the constitution. Imposing your religion on someone else is the best way to get them to reject it.

No sir you are dumb. The Constitution clearly states "Congress shall make no law ...." Our founding fathers did not believe in a national religion endorsed by the federal government. However, they had no problem with states having official religions which many of them did at the time and in which Madison actually wrote into the Va constitution. You're absolutely right...our founding fathers did not feel it was right to impose a national religion because they knew that Christianity didn't need to be forced. Love doesn't require convincing.

Our country was founded on Christian principles. If you'll do a little research, you'll find that most of the Constitution is based on sermons given by (who are today) little known pastors. Our society has taken that information out of circulation (& textbooks) within the past few decades.
