  • boy, dans REALLY asking the eternal question in this song.

"Now is the only thing that exists" ~ Dan Fogelberg

Remembering Dan Fogelberg today on his 60th birthday

    ❤♫❤❤♫❤♫❤.•*¨`*•..¸♥☼♥ ¸.•*¨`*•.♫❤♫❤♫❤❤♫

  • That is Astaire and Rogers, out of focus but no one could move like that back then and Mr. Stewart was never a dancer.

I want to know who wrote the words. Sure he brings them to life, so does Melvin O'Day (Meatloaf) but just as he sings Jim Steinman's words those are someone else's. What an amazing ballad

  • i'm always looking for love songs ...i can find love song with nice lyrics but what makes the song come alive is the artists voice...some songs have terrible lyrics but the artist can make the song fly like a butterfly..... lots of pretty lyrics to many songs but when the artist opens there mouth they destroyed the beauty...here in this song he had the butterfly in palm of his hand and let it fly ...the butterfly lands on our shoulder and sings into our ear and we begin smiling :)

  • 35 years later...the same love...it stayed.........thanks Dan..

  • If that is Jimmy Stewart or whomever it might be at 1:06 looks hauntingly like Dan Fogelberg.

  • A Legend. RIP Dan

  • ...love: the timeless universal relevancy as the procession of classics could attest...

  • YOU CANNOT MAKE LOVE STAY YOU MUST INVITE IT TO STAY BUT THE WORDS OF THIS SONG WILL HAUNT ME EVER MORE

  • You are my Cary Grant, baby!

  • I don't have a favorite

they are all a red eye perfect wonder!!

  • The video is a fox trot.

  • This is my favorite Dan Fogelberg song, it's so romantic and sweet.

  • Dan: You and your music are greatly missed by your many fans.

  • I had gone to Arkansas to visit my mother and grandmother (85+ yrs old), and I was in a good mood because it was the Holidays. When I got into my car...I heard that Dan Fogelberg had died....I sat in my car.....and cried. Then managed to cry my way home.

  • Fogelberg was a real talent.

You do a nice job matching his music with the visuals.

I come here often as a result.

    Thanks.

  • A very pleasant and relaxing song to listen too before turning in for the night.

  • missing this talented man!!!

  • So pretty this song.

  • as always from Dan magical

  • How do we make love stay? To any of you that have a long, happy marriage, enjoy it, because its rare. Love each other, give yourselves to one another, don't be selfish with love physically or emotionally, I envy people that have a partner tha t truly loves them and wants to be with them just for who they are.

  • @jeffreyorich You couldn't have said it better. I had my wife of 32 years walk out of my life and have never felt so empty or alone as I do now and that was 5 1/2 years ago. I remember when she and I saw Dan in person at least 3 times and I always thought we could Make Love Stay. But I have learned that love is an illusion and only is there to hurt and cause pain. Listen to Love Hurts by Nazareth and that says it all. I still love you Dan, RIP.

  • @wa6fhx Hang in there Buddy..Happy New Year

  • Beautiful song--from a master of poetry and song.

  • England Dan & John Ford Coley sing on this one? One or the other.

  • I loved the Book "Still life with Woodpecker" (Tom Robbins) and was compelled to revisit this song, which was inspired by that novel. Such wisdom in the book and in these lyrics. "What makes love last."

  • I still remember the days when I first heard Dan when he lived here in Tennessee, his music has lived in my heart ever since.

  • This song was inspired by the Tom Robbins novel "Still Life With Woodpecker"

  • He was a fantastic poet and songwriter . He loved life and all it had to offer . I am a better man now due to his influence on me in my life . Sounds sappy ... oh well . listened to his music in my dorm room at schreiner college Kerrville texas . had a sip of wine now and then . what great memories . May you rest in peace my friend ...........................................

  • Without a doubt a great composer. And like myself a hopeless romantic.

  • One of my favorite voices of all time.

  • No - there is no better one.

  • He passed December 16, 2007.

  • I was lucky enough to have seen this man in concert. Is there a better singer/songwriter alive?I`m not sure.

  • Great idea and a cool video. Trivia for all the Dan fans: the idea for this song came from Dan reading the Tom Robbins book "Still Life with Woodpecker."

  • The song that i had played again and again...wonderfull song!!

  • Great song!! What other song in history had the word "Exhumed" in it???

  • Who knows how to make love stay? Answer me that, and I will reveal to you the purpose of the moom.

    Such an awesome book.

  • moom?

  • Yes the moom.

  • What an incredible job you did of putting the old footage to this music. You have a fantastic sense of timing. Thank you for this post. Elizabeth

  • Fogelberg did not write a single bad song. This is one of his best. He had an incredible gift for original melodies, and great arrangements that bring out the best in those melodies.

  • A beautiful song I love very much

  • Charming tribute. My favorite Dan Fogelberg song as well. It's lovely.

  • An age old question written & sung in a way that touches the heart! What a tremendous singer/songwriter he was. His music will live on for years to come!

  • Beautiful tribute!

    Thank you for sharing,

    See you soon,

  • i was reading the comments and no 1 seems to say anything about the clips u used from "Bringing Up Baby " and the "The Philadelphia Story " Kathryn Hepburn and Cary Grant were amazing , u used 2 of my all time favorite movies for ur video :D they worked so well together , wonderful job on the video and thank u for posting !!!!

  • Dan's music has a way of touching the Soul. This was one of the songs that my wife and I most enjoyed while courting. We still listen and remember today. He is missed.

  • A beautiful song by a true music man...

  • My oh my, this song is just so very beautiful.

  • thanks very much for posting i loved dan's music.i heared first this song way back in 1982 during my 1st year in college in cebu.shocking to know now that his passed away.God be with you dan...

  • This is my favorite Dan Fogelberg song. The message along with the piano and sax work throughout makes for an enjoyable listening experience. RIP Dan, your music will stay forever

  • Wow! Great song! I was missing my first love halfway around the world when I would listen to this and just know that I was losing her. Man, to feel that way again! That was 1983 and my heart aches hearing that great song.

  • A Great song by an even greater man! Rest in peace Dan. You are missed but your music will play on. God Bless your family.

  • hit the top 40 charts on 3-5-83 staying on charts for 6 weeks and peaking at # 29.

  • This song has so much soul. Just one of the many tremendously beautiful songs from Dan. I've never met Dan not even seen him in concert but I really don't want to accept the fact that he's gone.

  • So beautiful and melodic...RIP and thank you....

  • Listening to this song makes me want to run out and buy the cd.

The lyrics are so meaningful and touching to the core.

  • he was amazing. His music and lyrics bring you into a special space. God bless his soul.

    Love you Dan...thank you.

  • I didn't know he passed away late 2007. great performer for those audience who enjoyed his style of music. I did and still do.

thanks dan for your music full of emotions and heart. you will be remembered forever in the hearts who care so much about your songs.

    aihihihi!!!

    baklita

  • A true masterpiece. Could not be sung with any more heart. Rest in peace Dan -- and thank you for touching our lives and making this world more enjoyable for all of us.

  • This song is so romantic, it's unbelievable. Rest in peace, Dan.

  • what a voice!

  • although I LOVE THIS SONG and LOVE DAN,my answer to the song is: LOVE IS MORE THAN A FEELING, it's a choice; an act; a will; a gift. Eros love brings us together but then we grow to love eachother in a deeper way: we should then take care of that love. And honor that love. : )

    Vee

  • Devoted Benevolence.

    Macro-Micro scale.

    Devotion, Benevolence, Altruism.

  • 'Moments fleet, taste so sweet within the rapture,

When precious flesh is greedily consumed.

But mystery's a thing not easily captured,

And once deceased, not easily exhumed.' Great song!

  • Rest in peace, Mr. Fogelberg. His music has reached many.

  • How to make love stay? Work at it... 23 years and still going strong.

  • yeah I worked my ass off. Takes two. Glad you are doing good.:)

  • based on the tom robbins novel.. nice

  • Not cool at all.

  • Heart-felt, amazing lyrics. This was a gifted man.

  • Peace to you and yours anyway, WellSpoken Negro.

  • You are about to be blocked from this channel. Your comments are offensive and disgusting and have absolutely no place on YouTube whatsoever. Peace to you and yours, but see you later just the same!

  • Okay, I must apologise because I have been very busy with other things and had not seen what was going on in here on this video. WellSpoken is about to be blocked and will no longer be able to post comments on this video. Again, I deeply apologise to anyone who was hurt or offended by his disgusting comments!

  • The ultimate question, this song. How beyond sad that someone can break what is so strong, yet so fragile. Anyone who has loved knows what I mean.

  • What a song writer!!!

  • Oh Yeah! Dan was the best!

  • I am in a new relationship. My question is how do we make the wanting last? I think we have to be ready and at certain times in our lives; it's like lightening: strikes rarely> PEOPLE: value and keep what you have if you have it : )

I want to find that special someone...I think I have, but he's so afraid to be hurt..(ex wife hurt him)

    LOVE DAN SO MUCH TOO!

    MISS HIM always, Vee

  • I miss him very much... I could listen to him FOREVER...

  • I'm a huge Dan Fogelberg fan and this may be my most favorite song by him. His singing is so touching and the overall instrumentation and production on this song is so fine. It's one of those rare songs I could listen to over and over without getting tired of it. Thanks for the great video to go with it.

  • im a diehard danfogelburg fan and thres a few songs i can lisen to over and over again he sung. those sungs you can really feel dis dedication as a artist rip dan well love you forever

  • I am still crying for the loss of such a sincere spirit - I miss you Dan!

  • ...he sang the soundtrack to my life...

I miss his finely crafted insights that resonated so deeply and completely with my soul.

  • What a great thought, a soundtrack to a life. We all have one, I guess to the extent we hear certain songs and all of a sudden, we're transported to another time or place. Dan's music did just that.

  • This video is very good! This was another one of my favorite Fogelberg tunes. Just one question, what movie is the clip of Jimmy Stewart from?

  • Oops, I can't remember. Sorry.

  • S'aright!

  • Truer words never spoken...Dan's nailed the issue right on the head. "Mystery is a thing not easily captured, and once deceased not easily exhumed."

  • The feeling of love, oh what a wonderful feeling. The love of today, and the hope for tomorrow. What a cool sound..........

  • My favorite DF song! Talk about taking you back! We all miss you Dan---thank you for all of your wonderful music.... RIP

  • Great music,Dan. Your music reminds us all of the beauty that God creates, and continues to create...

  • Dan has a beautiful voice. The words are so touching. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. I had the opportunity years ago to speak with him during an AOL chat "interview". I will always think of that- and of him- fondly.

  • I hadn't realized how finely crafted this song is. I was more of a Home-Free through High Mountain Snows fan, with music being a smaller part of life later on. But I saw him in 1994 and was astounded by his amazing musicianship as well as all the songs I loved restoring my heart and flooding me with joy and sorrow from my youth. I'll never lost the fire again.

  • This is the other of my two big DF favorites, the other is Same Auld Lang Syne.

"Dan, to have lived through your music was an opportunity of a lifetime, thank you for the music, Dan..."

  • Dan, I grew up with your songs and there have been many times throughout my life since that I reflect on one of your insightful messages to us all. I was shocked to hear of your death... my heart breaks a bit but you will always be with us each and every time we hit ''play''. We love you, Dan

  • Dan, with your music and your words you will MAKE LOVE STAY in our hearts ...forever!! RIP

  • I could not have said it better myself. Well said. You sound like a poet of truth. His music and words do evoke feelings of love and sentiments within us.

  • Hey Tage, thought I'd check in to your amazing videos again. I hope you had a nice holiday. And per your previous comments on the *religious* question. Hate to talk dogmas here, but like alot of us believe, there is a difference between belonging to a religion and being spiritual. DF in interviews talked about Am. Indian beliefs. I for one think you are one talented and *spiritual* dame. Thanks again Tage.

  • Thank you, bebo. Your comments are very kind, gracious and have an air of sophisticated beauty and yet, at the same time, are wrapped in sweet realistic simplicity. I like that about your words and it is the same discription I give to Dan's lyrics too. Big hugs:)

  • For me the song brings back the best memories I have from my younger years. It is an honest and peaceful song. Purely enjoyable by all.

Thanks so much Dan. We will remember you

  • His wonderful music stands for itself. On his website someone wrote "it is hard to imagine heaven, without Dan there". So very true. To the Morning (from Home Free) may very well be the most beautiful song ever written and recorded...if you have not listened to it, do. Dan wrote and recorded it at either 17 or 18 yrs old...what a magical talent

  • My heart breaks thinking Dan is gone. My wife and I had the great privledge to see him at Radio City Music Hall in New York,, it still is our most magical time we have spent together,, May he have known Christ.

  • A lot of people would contend that Dan did not know Christ, and yet, there is such a rich beauty in some of his music that you can hardly deny that the master's hand was there somewhere. Besides, no one knows what occurs between God and a man in those final moments of life on this earth, but God.

  • Tage - if people think that, they are simply wrong....Dan's Christmas CD makes many references to Jesus, the Lord, etc...great stuff. BTW, really love what you did with this tribute.

  • Thanks, Greg.

  • Dan,

Thank you for all the years of struggle you endured to give the world the beautiful music in your soul. It is bittersweet to hear those songs now, because there won't be any more forthcoming, nevertheless rest well until we all meet on the other side. Thank you, brother.

  • What a talent

  • Dans music and your passionate way of sharing makes me believe in the magic...he's divine.

  • I met Dan once... He was a truly kind person. I remember thinking, "Here's a guy doing what he loves to do." I changed my profession, and became a teacher. he helped me to follow a dream by simply being himself. I will always treasure the catalyst he was; he is so missed. Thank you, Dan.

  • wow thats a wonderful story you told, although i'm sad that he has passed away but reading your story made me smiled, and it just goes to show that you were also indeed a reflection of him because kind hearts notice other kind hearts, he will truly be missed

  • that's a beautiful story. Dan Fogelberg will always remind me of my Dad listening to his albums in the early '80s.. My Dad grew angry with Dan after his concert he attended, and Dan didn't perform an "encore." -Long live Dan Fogelberg!! Life's too short to worry about the "simple stuff"

  • "Mr. Fogelberg, thank you for sharing your gift of music. Your talent and heartfelt music will endure the test of time. Thank you sir!"

  • Dan Fogelberg was one of kind! he had a very unique of relaying his vision of love to the world. I remember this song as a teenager, seem like yesterday. it's not! and Dans gone but will forever live in his music.

  • Rememeber this song playing in my moms car when i was young. have not heard this again until married. Fully understand more then the melodies of this great song now. RIP. you will be missed very much.

  • same here.

  • man, this guy will be missed. He may have been somewhat out of the "limelight," but I hope that his music will live on, after all that is a legacy. A very gifted musician lost in a world full of bad notes.

  • This was the first Dan Fogelberg song I knew and then loved. It's sweet and lovely. How do we make love stay? That is the question - we can't make DF stay, but we can make gentle spirit live on through his songs and our hearts.

  • This has to be one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It's raw and honest with a brilliant arrangement. This and "Hello It's Me" by Todd R. are about as good as it will ever get. Thanks for bearing your soul Dan. We will miss you.

  • Our world needs more gentle souls like Dan Fogelberg! He expressed love and warmth in his music....a lesson for us all.

God Bless you and your family and all your fans who loved you!

  • Dan, your music touched our souls. You will be sadly missed. R.I.P and God Bless.

  • Dan, beautiful music all around. Travel home to God safely.

  • Beautiful song... beautiful song writer... we'll miss you Dan.

  • May your weary soul rest in peace, Dan.

    1951-2007

  • Rest in Peace , Danny

    You will be missed

  • Now that we love Now that the lonely nights are over How do we make love stay? Now that we know The fire can burn bright or nearly smolder How do we keep it from dying away? Lucid as dreams Barley remembered in the morning Love like a phantom lights But held in the heart It builds like the empty smile adorning A statue with sightless eyes
  • Now that we love

Moments fleet are so sweet within the rapture

When precious flesh is greedily consumed

Mystery's a thing not easily captured

And once deceased, not easily exhumed.

    Now that we love

Look at the moonless night & tell me

How do we make love stay?

  • What an adorable video!!! If I had not heard the news today I would have never seen this. I'm a nut on old movies and this captures all the sweetness of them. Great, great job! Love that Clark Gable Claudette Colbert clip! Well, I love them all. Wonderful. And Ginger at the end. Oh sweet.

  • Probably my favorite from Dan.

  • RIP Dan. Thanks for the great songs.

  • Gone are the melodies, and well orchestrated music of yesteryear, these long days past still ring aloud with the media works of purpose & beautiful appreciation. Thanks to the imaginations & interpretation of artists

we all can all dance with song...

world wide thank you for keeping with that spirit...

  • I wish i could sing this to you. You know who you are if you are reading this.

  • ah,

    atig sad ka dha

    i love this song

  • Great idea. Nicely done! Thank you!

  • Didn't Dan write this song for a children's cartoon? The sentiment is not lost however in you video and it is indeed a credit to you. Heartfelt that's for sure. Dan was certainly in the middle of a purple patch when he wrote this song. Around the time of the innocent age and windows and walls. I miss him. I hope he's doing OK.

  • Another great work, Tage! Thanks for this video.

    5 stars.

  • Thank you, Phaedrus.

  • Tage,You are a hopeless romantic-Good for you,It is nice to know that there are still good souls out there capable of feeling;the world is so numb these days...

  • I agree with you. This song and video says love IS GOOD, lets hang on because it hurts to lose it. I lost my 1st love no fault (death) 2nd reality. Staying on my 3rd. I plan to Make Love Stay.

  • I wonder if Dan Fogelberg ever comes in here to check up on what we are doing with his music? I wonder if he minds and I wonder what he thinks of our personal interpretations? I never followed Dan as a person, but some of his tunes are a part of the story that is my life. Each video contains portions of either my dreams, desires, regrets, nightmares, disappointments and/or hopes for the future.

  • Pt.2. This one is representative of wanting to fall in love, the kind of love you feel before reality sets in, back when love seemed pure and simple. Back in the time before love became corrupt, messy and elusive. Back in the days before 'happily ever after' failed.

  • Tage, I feel that any person that feels comfortable with their inself would feel honored with your interpretations. I feel that you touch my dreams, desires, etc. through your video. I've been a fan of Dan's for a long time. I "think" he would feel honored. (I'm not speaking for him. I don't know him, really. ) Thank you for sharing.

  • Hi Janimarie, I hope he doesn't mind. Have you ever seen any of the original videos to the songs I have made vids to? I haven't and would be curious to see them.

  • No.I only had vinyl until Hurricane Katrina washed out my collections. Now I'm attempting to build it back.

  • Janimarie, you went through Hurricane Katrina? Wow, that must have been a daunting experience. Maybe there are other Dan fans out there that can help Jani rebuild her Dan collection? I am glad that you can at least come in here and enjoy all the posts that people have made of Dan's music. Peace to you, Jani.

  • Tage, Thanks. I am buildiing it back up with my girls.(15 and 14 year old) I introduce them to different types of music we get sheet music, too.Flute and piano, now you know why I like Dan sooo much. Huricane K: I was lucky still have my family and my shell of a house is livable now.Out of the "fema trailor" not like some. Thanks for all the videos I really enjoy them. Dan F is a talented man.

  • I think he did, and I think he'd have loved them

  • Thanks, Corrupt, I had kind of hoped he did.

  • you know i kind of wonder myself if dan does that same thing. on thing is for sure is i bet hes in heaven jamming /w the best of our favorite singers. thats how i like to think of him. earlist

  • This may be the most beautiful love song ever written. Nice paring of video and music.
