  • I got accepted there, the faculty of Arts, law and social studies. I'm still thinking through my options, but seeing this video, and the fact that the majority of the comments agree with what's been said, I'm starting to worry. I have 4 more options, so my point is: would it be a mistake if I choose Anglia Ruskin?

  • @DelphineDelmar Yes, it would. Go somewhere else.

  • Some teachers are ass hole, specially Paula Burn . She is a shit teacher. I cant believe a university can hire alcohol n tobacco addict crap teacher.. hate her

  • @godzillalund I so agree with you!!! Most of them are crap!!! Paula is one of them! I had her last year, she did not do anything during lectures and seminars and at the end all the topics for the assignment were so difficult. At the end we tried to do our best but all of my fellow students as well as myself got a really bad mark! What the hell is wrong with that university!!!!!

  • enjoy it, trust me, there is no better place on earth than Cambridge, ARU sucks, but then, there is something so real in it's uselessness. you'll soon move on to bigger better things. but really, nothing will ever be able to touch your time there. Cambridge is the safest, most wonderful, most beautiful place on earth, and i have seen enough of the world to be able to say that. it's the only place where anything is possible, you must simply choose to do it.

  • What you on about in this video, this has happened to me in college and I didn't have any problems, just means you have more time off and your deadlines are extended ! I don't see whats wrong with having a wrong timetable and about choosing modules? So what I wouldn't see them as problems ! You should instead be happy you're on the course ! You're just a pessimist who sees the half full bottle as half empty ! And as for the person who works there ,why don't you quit ? Are you too stupid to quit ?

  • @BenightedFlame college is free, ARU is 4k a year

  • omgg thats so saaad...i thought about going to a university here in germany (with good rep) that works with ARU. i would have to spend one year studying there...i guess i'll rethink that . . .=/

  • I've just graduated from ARU & have had constant support, guidance and flexibility for three solid years.

I got strong A Levels & offers from other Universities but still chose ARU and don't regret it at all. I've just been accepted by Oxford University to study my Masters, frankly I think you're tarnishing the University name based purely on your own negative experience. I highly recommend ARU, this video doesn't reflect the true nature of this modern, promising University whatsoever.

  • Hi i am a current undergraduate biomedical student at anglia ruskin university. And the university is really good. The lectuerers are passionate about what they teach and the course is really interesting. I would recommend the university to anyone as its peaceful and a lovely place to study. I don't understand why you feel this university is crap as its a brilliant teaching environment. The only issue is timetable but other then that its a nice place. Maybe you studied at chelmsford?

  • Anyone who goes to ARU is stupid. Why would you want to go to a 'university' that takes anyone, is at the bottom of just about any league table you look at, and has a reputation like it has? A lot of our students can't even speak English!

  • Hi everybody. I've read all your comments and I'm specially worried about my decission. I am starting Marketing at Anglia Ruskin University in September, 2010 and I was wondering if all the complains that are here are because your degrees are different that mine or cause doesn't matter your degree, it's just the way that they work, (such a disaster...) In that case, somebody who doesn't know anything about ARU would understand that this university it's one of the worst!

  • @gafitasdesol91 Don't go - it's shit

  • Hi everybody. I've read all your comments and I'm specially worried about my decission. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • @gafitasdesol91 Go somewhere else if you can. Anglia is a joke in Cambridge. You will waste three years of your life if you go there.

  • @gafitasdesol91 What are you doing then?

  • I am a student from India. I got an offer from ARU for MSc in construction management. After seeing this video i was in a dilemma weather to join in Chelmsford campus or not please suggest me... i got an offer from University of Salford too which one will be the best for my course please suggest me...

  • @venkatakirangunnam Go to Salford. Anglia is a dump.

  • Comment removed

  • @venkatakirangunnam Go somwhere else. It's shit at ARU.

  • Unfortunately, it's all true. The place is a shambles. The S.U is useless in fighting for students as they are in the pocket of the management. Many staff are demoralised. Many courses are hollow. ARU's reputation amongst many employers is zero - they won't touch ARU graduates. The whole place is designed to get foreign bums on seats and maximise the cash. Compare ARU with Oxford Brookes - both start from the same place in 1992 with the same advantages. I know where I'd rather go...

  • @claypole47 I work there but I really believe that the best thing that could happen to this place is that it is shut down. To call us a university is having a laugh. Every year more poor little sods who are chuffed at going to uni are sucked through the doors thinking they are getting something worthwhile. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! ARU WILL NEVER BECOME A GOOD PLACE WHILE YOU ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORT AND APPLY TO A PLACE THAT EVEN ITS EMPLOYEES SAY IS A SHIT HOLE!!!

  • @sophiejackson47That's a little bit harsh!

  • @sophiejackson47 Shit Hole?

  • But honestly people... why dont you stop complaining and get your self organised! go out and do something about it! Get involved with the student union, talk to the advice services! Dont just put videos on You Tube, which ruin the reputation of the uni....

At the end of the day, this is your university!

  • I am a chelmsford full time student. My experience in ARU was absolutely fantastic!!!!!! I know about people being unhappy on their courses but it all depends from the department. Most of the students in general can choose their modules, but it all depends on the particular degree. i couldnt, but i knew about it before i started because icarefully checked all the information.

  • I agree with her video, my experience is similar. I am stunned at some of the comments on here. I too am doing a masters there and frankly what I am paying for ain't good enough. Those people who are asking her to buck up her ideas probably didn't have the ultimate responsibility of paying the fees and have parents to pick up the pieces. At masters level you already have 1 degree so you must have done something right, somewhere. If your only experience is of ARU then you might think it is good..

  • Man up woman.

  • Wow, i think i saw u at ARU <_< Hmmm.. U just seem quite familir

i am yr 1 there now, so i cant tell 4 sure, lol

  • Thats all bullshit. I agree with McGoldigger. You NEED to grow up. I am a graduate from APU, back at 2002. All of our teachers were absolutely professionals, showing us personal help every time that we needed it. Cheers to Kieron Toner

  • Doesn't matter what course you're on! from my experience and I have a lot of friends on different courses all having similar issues. Atm I am paying to have a 3hr 1 lecture a week. What is the point of even going to university!?!?!? We have complained to our tutor, asking for change to the module, and well they're right and all the students are wrong. This video is not a childish response. She is a student who cares about her education! If students didn't complain how can a university mature?

  • Considering you don't say what course you are on how can anyone back you up? I've had all the module choices promised in my course and have had no problems with timetable, etc. And I don't know anyone else who has. If you wanna go to Cambridge Uni, this will not help you!

  • Grow up

  • Comment removed

  • and they never told you about the discount at KFC......

  • ARU is the best... Im doing my Masters here and everything ios coolio. I dont why you trippen girl.

  • Well ive just finished my second year and not had any problems. Got lots of module choices right from the start.

  • Good luck Naomi. Such a childish response from your college... brought to you by the generation that brought us to the brink of financial collapse, pillaged the coffers of the nation and despite needing us to wipe their bums in the next decade or two, they persist in burdening us with higher costs of living despite having sold our jobs to the developing world for the price of Happy Meal toys and cheap consumer electronics.

An utterly poisonous generation. Your situation is an act in the play.

  • Looks like you're having problems with yourself, young lady. No wonder no one wants to help you considering your attitude... with your stupid video you're not only harming the university's name but also students who study at ARU. When you don't like it why don't you study at Cambridge???

  • Please accept my apologies for the problems with e-vision on the 5th January 2009. We undertook a major upgrade of the system over the New Year break which we publicised as due to finish by the 5th, but which unfortunatly did not finish until 4pm. The 6th should have been ok. If you are an Anglia Ruskin student you can find info on how to get help with IT problems onthe IT support pages on Anet (anet/isms/student.phtml) Ajay Burlingham-Bohr. Director of Information Systems and Media Services

  • hey i was just wondering what course your doing?, i was thinking about going to this uni but don't think i will because it seems alot of ppl agree with this video

  • I can't deal with ARU.

Mainly because I am an Illustration student at what should still be cambridge school of art and the pile of shit University that got stuck on to the art school is just ruining everything my course should be about.

  • Hi I'm currently studying at ARU in Chelmsford and am and international student from Denmark. I am doing my final year and started in january 08 with 7 others from Denmark. When we started we were promised a wide selection of modules. It turned out that there were only a few to choose from since we started in the second semester. Some of my friends had to take modules that had already been running since september which meant they had to do a 30 credit module in one semester.

  • Hello im currently studying at ARU cambridge and quite frankly the uni is a joke. Lessons are brutally unorganised, many of the lecturers dont no what they are talking about, that is if they show up. Talking about timetables, just entered my second year ive been here for two months now and we are still sorting out out imetable?! what a joke. so far it was been 6000 down the drain. and if its an ARU drain its probably fucking blocked.

  • you the joke ! ARU is cool !

  • I just started at ARU septemeber. I regret it so much compared to my other choices at ucas. All the same stuff is happing at Chelmsford campus, this uni is so disorganised

  • Do not regret it ! I am doing my masters at Cambridge Uni after ARU. Trust me UC is not better at all : )! ARU ruls

  • For some reason they've censored the response I made!

  • Heya. I WAS a student at ARU Cambridge but due to the consistant appauling standards I quit in March this year. I had exactly the same problems as you. The modules advertised were not available, lecturers barely turned up, etc. When I went to a lecturer to ask for help one time she told me "you have course books, use them" in a sarcastic manner and ushered me out of the classroom. I find it desgusting these people are getting away with calling that 'education' whilst we foot a 4K per-year bill.

  • @FrothedCoffee Perhaps you could focus on your spelling and taking responsibility for your education?

  • But, obviously, that is just my opinion.

  • Hi I'm a student at ARU Chelmsford. An appalling, manipulative, oppressive, badly-run establishment, clearly accepting many students across the board on the basis of funding rather than ability, then sacrificing said students on the horns of poor-quality tuition and practice opportunities.

  • I agree so much!

    The admin is dire!

  • Im glad that you're making an official complaint. Everyone seems upset about it, but very little are taking action. My friend in the year below me had an entire module where the lecturer did nothing except hand out the brief. Our Module Definition Forms are from before 2005 and usually wrong, the lecturers are usually clueless, and trained in something unrelated. We often get directed to online tutorials written by other people instead of being directly taught.

  • I'd like to video reply, but I dont have a webcam with me.

Naomi I'm at ARU Chelmsford and I totally agree. I was completely let down, told we would have choices of modules which we did not. Out of the 11 people on my course, only 5 continued to the end, most quit because of the Uni itself, failing to uphold promises, and many shared the idea that they were 'conned onto the course' as they put it.

  • I in no way experienced the problems that you have but know many that did. Truth be told, I was almost ashamed to graduate from that place. The social life was fantastic, but now doing a masters elsewhere, at a campus that was only established 3 years ago, i realise how bad APU really was, but i must say it is getting better, in my old department anyway. All the best.

  • I agree. There are really crap!!!

  • I am finding a way around the problem. I have in effect FORCED them to run the options that THEY said were available in the prospectus. If something is advertised as being available, you have to make it available, otherwise it is FALSE ADVERTISING. I also have devised other ways to get around the problem, although I shouldn't have to.

  • 'Not just an old university in Cambridge,' eh? Not even a university, by the sound of things, but a shameful simulacrum run by the usual market racketeers that have corraled eduction in this country. Good luck to you, Naomi: you deserve better.

  • hahahahahahhaha, you have my support.

  • Give back our bacon rollls goddddammmit!!!

  • I suspended my course at ARU in feb this year and i was just coming back from my country (italy) thinking about making a formal complaint when somebody told me that I wasnt probably the only one that had a bad exp at ARU all my english friends adviced me not to go for it as they said it wouldnt have brought me anywhere...but now I have changed my mind

  • I had a horrendous time at Anglia Ruskin and ended up withdrawing from my course. Such an unprofessional experience.

  • I go to Anglia Ruskin and I'm 100% happy there, I heard She got in trouble for doing this, is this true as it is harsh for the Uni to punish her.

  • I got suspended indefinately but I wrote the uni a letter of apology and I was re-instated about a week ago. I'm glad you are enjoying your time at uni. Are you doing a science subject by any chance?

  • Glad you were brought back in, no I'm on the Drama/Film studies course, but I did refuse to do the National Student Survey. I'm currently doing/finishing my dissertation.

  • All you negative people you know nothing about ARU. Im studying there as well & this woman is 100% right for bringing this issue to light & hopefully this complaint will end up in the hands of the relevant authorities to sort this matter out because people seen to be so scared to raise their heads & speak out. Come on people give the girl some credit. Nuff props gal, we need people like you in the society. Big up to Martin Luther King for starting the revolutionary we still live up to today.

  • What course are you doing if you don't mind me asking and what issues do you have on your course?

  • apumonkey you seem to forget that if what you say is true, then ARU should not offer freedom of modual choice with out a caveat in place as to do so with out one could be consitituted as a breach of advertising regulations.

I have never met an ARU student who had anything good to say about the university.

I did my second degree there and was horrified by the way it was run compared to the university where I did first degree.

Based on my experience, don't go

  • That is exactly how I feel. Unfortunately the complaint cannot go to the an independant adjudicator as you have to exhaust the internal complaints procedure of the university which is damned near impossible.

  • I think the reason being is that the administration side of ARU is institutionaly disorganized. I think that the staff there try do the best job they can but are faced with an unwieldy buerocratic system and it makes them difficult to deal with. But then we are looking at a University that was originally a college and probably still is if your scaped of the university image.

  • I find it appalling that instead of dealing with the issues and answering with a response video (to check how open and easy it is I responded with a recent one of my own which contains philosophising very relevant to this situation) they have (according to today's telegraph) decided to kick you out and bully you with their shysters. Is this any way to treat a client? Future years' intakes will decide, if they want to be part of something that works this way.

  • Unfortunately I haven't been able to watch your video as it won't let me on my comp. It may be because it's quite long, therefor a big file? I'm not too good with technology so apolgies for that. I just wanted to write a quick response to say thank you for taking the time to comment and you are right about what you say about future years intakes will decide whether they want to be part of something that works in such a way.

  • Good on you! Make sure you get value and always be just like you are now!

  • Well done, we need more people like you who stand up for themselves.

Don't let the buggers get you down. ;o)

  • if u want it u already got it! if u flaunt it iama giv u wat u want..time is waitin we onli got 4 minutes to save the wrld!

  • ur pretty sad arent u apumonkey07? all u can do is repeat the same comment over n over agen.

  • Why is this lady getting so much abuse? How many of you have any first-hand experience of this University? I studied at ARU and know it to be as NaomiAnna says - I got the qualification but ARU had nothing to do with it. Students do the administration's job for them, tutors don't have the knowledge or time, courses and modules are disorganized and don't teach what they claim. Why shouldn't she make ARU's poor service public? it's not a grant system anymore, we pay thousands for it.

  • Actuaslly she is pretty right. and im sure alot of ppl wud agree wit her! how dare u call her a fat bitch! u hav 2 sink that low! so if shes havin a tantrum so am i! cause i totally agree wit her! and ed the third bloody grow up, n get a mature act!

  • How about I bend u over and show you my chocolate éclair with the big surprise!! Then ill fly you to California!! but stop bitchin about apu while it has its probs its better than alot of others and omg so what about the time table your just being a baby grow up!! bobby6142 is correct...

  • lol u r a losser just because u did not get on well u go online and start givin the uni a bad name.. fuck off u fat bitch take it down

  • i got accepted by the ARU, but i didn't go because i thought they're facilities were shit. I'm glad i didn't go now!

  • What is quite amusing is that ARU offer flexible modules based upon the number of expected students in any given year, then if not enough people join a course or if quite a few drop out they can't run the number of module expected. So basically what Naomi has done here with all this bad publicity is shit on everyone involved! Well done, i hope you've enjoyed your tantrum!

I notice you're doing marketing, it can't be that bad a course because you've marketed your grievances pretty well!

  • part2

You was promised alloy wheels, a sound system, air bags, in built sat-nav, tinted windows etc...And when you recieved the car it was a banger with no wheels never mind alloys. What are you going do, accept it? Even if we have loans we still have to pay them back. If we as people are dissatified with a service we have the right complain and be heard. It's freedom of speech and we as customers have satisfaction rights.

  • Part 1

Okay calm down guys, lets not get worked up about it. don19811, lets put this to you in a different way. If you bought a car for 3,070 or more in your case from ebay as an example.

  • ok don guy, she is allowed 2 stand up for herself. 3 grand is alot n maybe wen YOU have 2 pay bak ur fees ull realise that. NaomiAnna i completely support u

  • Continued from earlier comment> who don't care that they are wasting their parents money or because it's not their own money (e.g student loans or grants) they can't be bothered to demand a better service or not even better, just what the uni said they were offering but hey that's just my opinion.

  • I have a busy week ahead of me and I may not be able to regulate the site on a daily basis so I ask everyone who wants to write a comment to word it carefully so it will not be construed as defamatory. Thanks

  • I love it! U guys so understand me! I thought i was alone! Yer 3 grands a hell of a lot for wot we learn or shud i say dont learn! Yer it is true. i only heard bout this through the news and through my family tlkin bout it cause i left! Im well glad it was in the news!!!!

  • Nope maybe not

  • oliverthebum> I had to delete your other messages because they could be construed as defamatory. I don't like to censor people but this is what it has got to. I feel exactly the same as you. I should have got a massive loan and somehow scraped the money to go to Bath uni.

  • This video being on the news proves that ARU are complete dumb arses...even more people will watch this video now...well done!

I go to ARU and can't beleive they can get away with charging £3k tuition fee charges, i have had no support on my course, i have lectures one day a week, they sacked our lecturer 4 months ago and still have no replacemnet.

They put the wrong exam results on e-vision which look liked our whole class had failed and missed our re-submission date...DON'T GO TO ARU!

  • I totally agree with all the comments below. As it stands I am still waiting for some marks for one of my modules from last semester. The re-sit date is April 23rd (i think) but I don't know if I've passed or failed either way so I don't know whether I need to be re-writing the essay. I have been trying to find out the grade since before March.6th. I have filled out a form at the student information centre and they are currently trying to track it down.

  • Wow, I thought I was alone. I struggled to pick modules for my second year and it dawned on me. I'm gonna be thousands of pounds in debt and have nothing to show for it.

  • Dude, I totally agree. People used to call it when it was APU, Anglia Pretend University and they were absolutely right! Absolutely Rubbish University is fitting too, lol. I'm glad to be in my final year. I've absolutely had it with Anglia. You're right about the tailoring courses bit, I've had to do modules which I couldn't care less about (and wouldn't use in my career, plus, I shall probably change career actually, ARU has made me lose loads of incentive to do what I study).

  • I totally agree Shamshady. They are out of order for saying you should work harder. Even if you have got the grades, maybe NaomiAnna chose 2 go there purely because she thought it wud be gud? I had the grades to go elsewhere i got a B B C which i can assure u gets u in alot of other unis but i chose Anglia Ruskin, the biggest mistake of my life. Maybe ont every1 elses but definately mine. I totally support you as well NaomiAnna.

  • PART 3

I'm 100% behind you. They had no right to suspend you, make sure you fight them all the way.

Oh yeah to the fools who say we should have worked harder, and gone to a different Uni. I suggest you take you heads out of your arses and think before you speak.

  • how would you like it if you wen to a uni and they said you could tailor your course to suit you and your career and then say that all the modules are compulsory but they would just be a waste of your time? you'd end up wanting to change your career choice. try being empathetic n imagine how you would feel

  • Drop out... or change uni...I would not post my comment on to youtube.. this is selfish to do so, Don't you think ??? If this lady is hopeless and can not manage her own business, blaming the uni for that, this is just disgustingly outrages ! the Uni is a very complex organization which is constantly evolves... I have the same situation with my course at ARU, and I do not post video on you tube

  • I'm not a quitter. I don't see why I should have to drop out of the course when I haven't done anything wrong.

  • You know, ARU is not only uni in UK that has problems. I have applied to one of the top 5 Uni, and you know what, they have messed up my application which I was preparing for 3 months... I dont post on you tube saying thath this uni is rubish... and 99.99% of people I know would not do that... So think before you do something. You damaged you future dont fuck up some ones future in this uni, please will you.

  • LOL don... it's rather amusing that you seem to have taken this rather personally, it's also amusing that you claim there was a problem with your application to one of the "top 5 Uni", but from the way you totally butcher up the English language I think that it's reasonable to assume that you were merely rejected but couldn't decypher the rejection letter :-)

  • oh and one last thing don, saying "this lady is hopeless and unable to manage her own buisness" is null as she's talking about incorrect information supplied by the uni.

Unfortunately I'm not very good at suffering fools, and you sunshine are a bloody retard.

  • apart from you my friend, I am trying to speak language which I have been learning only for few years ! And you mother fucker go and fuck you self with the iron stick... :)

And by the way she is hopeless :)

  • How wrong you are :) :) :) ! I got a place...

  • And one more thihg... try to use more often words like amusing and rather ... it shows how educated you are ! :)

  • shes getting a point across which you cant seem to get through your thick skull. at least she cares about what happens to her future cz to me it sounds like u've got the same promblems but couldnt care less what happened. shes fighting for what she believes and i dont see anything wrong with that. in fact i see more wrong in what you're saying. and im sure 99.99% of the people you know are exactly like you. i'd like to meet the other 0.01% cz im sure they'd make sense.

    you have a foul mouth

  • :) no I am not...

  • you're not what...?

    get your grammar right

  • PART 2 A few, well one lecturer should no longer be teaching as they do not grasp the concept of impartial marking, of students work. Don't get me wrong most of my lecturers have been cool and have gone out of their way to help me, but it is definitely time for me to move.

A lot of my fellow peers have left, or are leaving the course due to similar reasons. So good on you, if you are not happy you have the right to speak out.

  • PART 1

Firstly, this is my opinion of my time spent at Aru. The Uni should be nick named 'the Absolute Rubbish University'. I joined last year really excited about the next stage in my life and now I can't wait until I can leave that joint this summer.

I won't mention what course I am on, but it involves using camcorders and editing equipment. Most of the course content is irrelevant and what we should be learning, we are not.

  • i no the media are gay but good on you finishing the course then get out of that place before the fuckin do u again lol good luck

  • Hi, i left Anglia Ruskin in December. I absolutely hated it!! It is a waste of money! My course was not organised! They dint even teach us how to edit on film and tv production course!! We had to teach ourselves until we complianed n complained n complained n they got a professional in! Wot a pile of crap it is!!! Gud on u!! Its so not worth the money ur paying!!! I'd support u all the way!!xxx

  • vmcarter> I'm hearing this more and more. If you want to join in the discussions on my facebook site "unhappy with the way your course is run at ARU?" that would be amazing. You can talk to like-minded people and get your frustrations out of your system!

  • i see the newspaper about your video,I heard you suspend classes, that's really bad.頑張れ

  • foxcat47> I'm being re-instated so I should be allowed back at uni soon to finish the course. Thanks for your supportive comment and 最後まで頑張ります!

  • university are businesses and like all businesses in this country they screw over people for profit find out how much they get for you from the the govenment thats what you are worth to them

  • otowise> It's a sad fact but true. This experience has made me weary of everything. I don't take anything at face value anymore and keep paperwork from everything as evidence and I would advise everyone to do the same.

  • Naomi

You have not made defamatory remarks-they are only defamatory if untrue. As a third year student rep on at different course at the ARU, I can tell you that at least 100 students agree with your comments in 2008 alone. Thank you for bringing this to the public's attention. We have made official complaints over the past two years-as have previous students. These complaints are ignored and we suffer more and more cuts in teaching hours, failures in student learning outcomes.

  • TubeTiger07>I hope that the last few weeks of my course are good and that the course I'm on will be better for future students. Everyone needs to speak out about it. I believe many people feel the same as I do but it's just about getting all their opinions in one place. Please feel free to join my facebook group "unhappy with the way your course is run at ARU?" and tell all the people who agree with me to join as well. Thanks for the supportive comment btw

  • maybe you should have worked at bit harder and gone to a better university.....

  • It had nothing to do with my grades. I could have gone to Bath University but unfortunately their courses are £20,000 which I sadly could not afford and now I am paying the ultimate price by having a miserable experience.

  • && lol i just saw u on look east lol

  • Just wish u get back on track.....

i wudnt want to be in that situation and believe i would have done the same thing if it happened to me and really i DO NOT KNOW WHY YOU GOT SUSPENDED!!! i mean why on earth would someone suspend u just for that :S

just hope you get back on track ;)

  • She's unsuspended you dolt >_>

  • o ok wen was she unsuspended

  • I am supposedly being re-instated and am awaiting a letter from the university. I want to finish this course as soon as I can and then I am NEVER coming back to this horrible place ever again.

  • wtf u were on tv cuz of this video ok... lol good on you for showing what you belive

  • LOL BEAT YOU

  • wtf

  • LOL@U

  • how am i funny

  • Media always gets peoples attention in ways you normally can't.

  • lol

  • LOOK EAST IS SHIT

  • Just have to say that I'm in my final year and my experience couldn't have been better. I'm in life sciences - the lecturers are brilliant and the course is well-organised. I'm sorry to hear you've have had such a bad time. Hopefully your comments and those of others will change things for the better on courses that may not be up to scratch.

  • I think I did mention in one of my earlier comments that science courses are good as I have some friends doing them but other courses are not. People really have to speak to students to get the "real" view. Thanks for taking the time to comment and I'm glad you're enjoying your course.

  • by the way, totally support what you're doing. the fact that they have the audacity to suspend you is pretty disgraceful. The university should be writing YOU an apology - hope you "win" (if thats possible)

  • hey just saw the news - talking of cancelled classes without warning...im in my 2nd year doing history - turned up this morning for my class and there was a note on the door saying all of the lectures were cancelled for that specific lecturer (3 hours worth!)..no email, just a letter on the door.luckily i only live about 5 min bike ride from the uni, but what about the people that have to commute everyday? lack of infrastructure at our uni - definately not what i expect for £3070 a year...

  • After we experienced a cancelled class, people didn't attend classes as much because morale was low. The university wonder why but unless they go through what the students go through they will never realise what a bad student experience we are having. I would insist that they teach you that missed class before the end of the semester.

  • I just seen this on the news, everything you said is true, Anglia Ruskin are amazingly disorganised and I was taken in by 'false advertising' on the courses as well. I won't say which one but the course material seemed to have been made by a five year old. This isn't to say that all courses are bad, just my experience of this particular course... You're definately within your rights to speak up though, in fact well done to you for actually having the motivation to go this far...

  • I just want the university to realise that it's not just me that's dissatisfied when they look at all the comments written on here. Some people have stated what courses they are on so they can actually do something about it. If the courses were free it would be a different story but we pay so much and get so little. I am a pretty motivated person but it does wear me down.

  • I don't understand why you've been suspended for this, you didn't actually name anyone in your video. You're just stating your dissatisfaction for a service you've paid for. Has this video been edited or is this the version that your university has had issues with?

Have you had any legal advice?

  • It apparently isn't for the video but the comments that both myself and others wrote which could be construed as "defamatory". You won't see any of those now as I've been instructed by ARU's solicitors to delete them and to regulate both my youtube and facebook site for anything that could be seen as "defamatory". I have had legal advice and am hoping to get re-instated very soon.

  • Belfast confetti I'm afraid I had to delete your comment as it could have been construed as "defamatory" and I have been told to regulate this site. I do not like to censorship but unfortunately I have no choice.

  • Good for you! I read about this in the Daily telegraph today. It's utterly disgraceful that you've been suspended. Have you contacted the Students Union / NUS about this? They're usually pretty good about helping with things like this. Good luck!

  • Well done you made it into the Telegraph newspaper!

They have an article on their website with a direct link to this video!

  • My experience of the uni so far has been good- course as advertised (although crap choice of modules in 3rd year) timetables accurate and posted on evision on time, lectures not cancelled etc.

However after the shambles of returning marked work after christmas I have seen for myself how disorganised this Uni can be.

From my experience of trying to complain 'through the proper channels' it has become clear that communication within the university is poor. I hope your campaign is successful!

  • By the way I'm doing an undergrad degree in English (lit) just so you can see how my experience fits in with the experiences of others you have spoken to.

To be honest I probably wouldn't have handled this the way you have- bringing an even worse rep to the uni that we will all have to say we graduated from, but at the end of the day if you think this will get your point across then you have my support :)

  • I had no other way to really reach students other than through the internet as the university obviously won't give me students names and email addresses. I just wanted to reach people in the easiest possible way allowing them to talk/share their ideas with me and as you have said complaining through the proper channels has done essentially nothing so I felt the need to do something bigger and this and the newspaper was all I could think of. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • Ace! Keep pushing at 'em, you'll get there!

  • This is a message to everyone watching the video and commenting. Unfortunately ARU are trying to take legal action against me for "defamotory" comments written on here and on my facebook group so I will have to take responsibility and delete any comments that could be construed as "defamatory" even if it is not me that has written them. I guess there is no such thing as freedom of speech anymore. I have been told anything with the word "bullying" is construed as defamatory.

  • Could it not be considered that in forcing you to remove these comments you are being bullied? Note that I am not saying that is bullying, so I am defaming no-one. I am simply asking if it could be.

  • I agree with you but I have to be careful with wording and tread very carefully these days. As I've said in a previous comment it seems there is no such thing as freedom of speech.

  • Well done Naomi, you said what needed to be said and what everyone wanted to say.

You are right, especially about the timetables.

Free speech is a right which needs to be excersised and I salute you in your bold protest.

  • I salute your brave initiative, NaomiAnna. Your experience may not be typical, but it is real experience. The current management seems focused on marketing, rather than improving the actual day-to-day experience of students and staff. Most of the teaching and support staff do their best, but they have been battered around by sweeping initiatives from on high that oblige them to fit in with the latest campaigns, rather than to serve students as they know best. Please keep campaigning! Thanks.

  • (I'm actually [recent] ex-staff: I just abbreviated my name confusingly to fit the youtube character limit. Sorry.)

  • The Evening News now says "After being contacted by the News, Mr Bennett said the suspension was not for complaining, but in response to "serious unfounded allegations against a senior member of staff".

He said: "On March 17, I wrote to the student and asked her to remove the allegations within 48 hours, otherwise she would be suspended forthwith."

I don't see any such remark? Have you removed it?

I know ex-students and ARU is shambolic. Shame on them for trying to censor you.

    You've got guts.

  • purhaps student life is not for you and you should go back home to mummy, aru is a very good uni and a lot of people think as i do, just because you have had problems dont put us in the same basket

  • ure jus an idiot, she has a very valid point there:) dont leave mean comments!!

  • Thank you for your support and comment. I don't mind people leaving negative comments as everyone has the right to their opinion. All I was ever trying to do is reach people and see what they had to say, so in that respect even negative comments are great because they care enough to have left a comment!

  • yeah i no babe i jus dont fink they shud be being mean to YU for speaking out!!!

wat ure doin is great tho gd luk

    xxxxxxxxxxx

  • thanks for the supportive comment :)
