  • by the way, how's this bike getting along?

  • I notice the axle plates on that frame are side mounted to the tube, the tube had a flat face milled into the side, is this better than cutting a slot down the centre of the tube a nd fixing the axle plate centrally in the tube? I'm building a bobber/chop atm and aint sure which of the two ways to mount the axle plate, advice would be great, thanks.

  • THANK YOU! The latest of vids is Sugar Pie Honey Bunch, check that video out and you will see some more progress or go to my myspace page under pics under "Bonneville Buildin'"

We decided to flatten the tubes on one side and weld it in that way. If you go in the center, you have less area to weld than if you flatten one side of the tube, in other words you can get both edges of the plate the way I did it. Plus, its way easier to line everything up. However, I am sure either way will work.

  • Yeah I've seen that vid. The bike looks pretty damn good. Does the vid show how the bike is now or has it moved on much since? What is the aim of racing it, are you doing top speed runs or something?

  • Ooh, how rude of me... almost forgot to say thanks for the pointers about sticking axle plates to tubes.

  • Not a problem man! I will be racing the bike at the salt flats in Utah, going for the Vintage Streamline record in my class. Hope to make it out there in 2009. Tomorrow I will be working on the shifting actuators and linkages. Feel free to ask any questions, and if you have myspace, add me. I am always interested in other peoples projects.

  • I did check out your myspace page but some of it was off limits as I don't have an account, Maybe I'll get one. I like your philosophy and some of the things you've said there, you seem like a quality guy.

  • WOW, thank you! If you ever get a Myspace, don't hesitate to add me! Take care, and good luck on your project!

  • We'll be rootin' for ya.

Who's helping you there, your dad?

  • He's actually like my grandfather. He is a good friend of mine. A super genius of a builder too!!!! Thanks for your support Lon!!!!
