Matter of fact, as a kid, a big day out was taking the bus ride from Yorkshire, over the Pennines to Manchester airport and watching planes take off and land from the observation deck. Back then we were lucky to see a plane every half hour. So I do see the attraction. Doesn't give me wood though, but, like I said, whatever floats your boat as long as nobody gets hurt. Have at it.

The DC-10 must be empty or has a very high power to weight ratio. I never saw anything like that. Faulty cargo door system gave it a bad reputation in the past. Tri and four engine jets are more suitable and may be safer for long flights over water than twin engine planes.

I've checked google Earth, and the only possibility is that it is Lake Ontario. The reason it took you 7 minutes to reach a water body it was most probably because your plane took off in the other direction before making a turn to fly over lake ontario. In the entire flight distance from toronto to New York, the plane never flies over the atlantic ocean. It is only from New York to guyana that the plane actually goes over the atlantic.

i agree with ya. jegerproletar, At First Thought it was a MD-11 but when I saw the pickle barrel i knew...FedEx has what thay call a MD-10. They put translocks on the wing T/R`s and basically changed all the avionics. Same # 2 eng cowling and no winglets but a nice airplane.

Folks, this may be a DC-10 or MD-11 but it is definitely not an L-1011. See an L-1011 and you'll notice the Lockheed plane has a smooth, integrated top nacelle, like the 727. The DC-10 family has a top nacelle connected by a thin pylon.
