I have a guitar rig very similar to Nigel's rack based rig. Does anyone know how he achieves the stacked delays? Is he using 2 seperate delay units or is he using s stereo delay with different timings on each channel?
Oh...how does he play chords in the chorus at 3:57 ? I cannot understand his explanation...he is talking abou A, E, some inversion of D and inversion back to A...and I cannot figure out which string is he holding...please could you help me and write this chords as a tab ? I mean for example A as 002220...thanks a lot
@peter5number for A, its like playing Esus 0 0 7 9 10 7, for E, 0 0 7 9 9 7, for D, 0 0 7 7 10 10, then A again and then he stays at that A chord for the F#m part of the chorus because it is like playing a bar chord of F#m but holing one less string and then back to E again. well thats how i play it
Okay, I know Nigel has got a dotted eighth delay goin on the intro, but when he goes to the chorus and he's full on strumming, does he leave the delay on or does he kill it?
Excellent workshop. Thanks for posting these, I'm sure it is doing a lot of good for a lot of budding christian guitarists! I've been incorporating some of the techniques I've heard on your albums into our own worship services, and it has been met with great results!
@PortlandHardcore19 yeah - if you use some analog delays you will get sort of a chorus effect and almost an old tape echo. I have 2 mxr analogs in my chain - one set to around 300ms and the other is around 500ms. You can play with it - but you get a nice layered delay with 2 different times depending upon your taste. Sometimes I'll then run through a digital delay as well in my fx loop. You get that sound like he has here.
@Christotunes Actually Reuben Morgan and Ben Fielding of Hillsong United wrote this and Laura Story covered it. Check out her story about covering the song:
yeah true. For this type of music will a hollow body make a difference? I've been playing guitars for a while now( Pianist for a team :P) but never touched a hollow or semi hollow.
It'd be helpful to have the chords written on screen. I can work out A to E to D to A ... but what's the last chord...? I just can't finish the sequence.
@thejohnlaco he currently plays a duesenberg starplayer. on this album (mighty to save and god he reigns) he's using the gretsch duojet. i'm 150% sure.
its too different delay layed on top of each other. one is triplets the other is 1/8 notes. same bpm for both. give it a go if you have too delay pedals.
As for the F#m in the Chorus, can anyone tell if he just uses his inversion of D before resolving it to E?
