fantastic performance, many people make the mistake of thinking that piece must be played like spanish music, and get disappointed when they hear such a performance of it. thanks mr berezovsky for making this piece so clear to me after having played it myself so many times without understanding it.
Did anyone notice his performance time was just over 5 minutes?? In my score, the duration is 6:10, and that is fast enough i'd say. To me, this fast of a performance takes away the feeling of the "Aubade of the Jester". However, he does play it well at that tempo.
DINU LIPATTI recorded the DEFINITIVE performance of this work, and it's 5:56, if I remember correctly.

Meanwhile, THIS is an excellent performance, although I don't sense much love, joy or mirth in BB's playing. It's always all about spectacular virtuosity for the sake of spectacular virtuosity. No one could deny that Boris certainly does have THAT.
for those of you who play the piece, I'm sure you've noticed he misses two bars in the return of the fast section, but it turned out pretty unnoticable.
What is mean, inspiIlation? Maybe this play not inspilling. But good play. Gooood play, absolutely superb good play. If everyone think this no goods, everyone must see ear doctor, no?
This is good Boris. Scarbo is bad Boris. Because maybe too inspilled. This not inspills therefore so superb. I am not able play water play so superb like this Boris machine. This is harder play than water play, I think? I get jealous of daughter. Boris, make me daughter! I love you! Sorry everyone, wrong English and daughter jealousy.
it's hard to play more uninspired. i was a big fan of him in his early years of career, his first Rachmaninov or Ravel cd-s were outstanding. Today he became a machine, with only average routine performances
really, go check his Islamey performance. I don't think many pianist can play that piece as good as he does. The way you pick on him isn't fair, every pro got some pieces they are good at and bad at. Even when i go through the performance of Horowitz and Richter I don't agree on all interpretations they had on all pieces with regard to the position of audience.
Worst of all, u didn't really elaborate any detail as in how bad his other pieces perform.

@ericrouach It is NOT a mistake in spanish way at all,... best performances of this piece are from de larrocha and from arrau.

The first section was breathtaking, as was the last... But he rushed the slow bit. And what the hell happened at 3:55? Silly Boris.

@apianist4jc The tempo is actually 92 in the sheet music so Berezovsky is playing at the correct speed. But I agree it sounds too fast.

Richter is simply the best, he plays this with the lion's paw...

I'm not a big fan of Berezovsky but I surely do like his interpretation on this!

Musically perfunctory, clumsy technically. Just another job to get thru before catching the plane to the next job.
