  • Sorry if someone mentioned this already, but apparently Alan hadn't even see the screenplay and had no idea what the movie was about when he wrote the ten songs (really only nine as the 10th is just a re-working of the first). Lindsay Anderson just asked him to write some songs and in the weirdest twist of fate ever, they just fitted with the movie brilliantly,

  • thanks for you mr. Alan Price <3 for your music !!!

  • thanks for you mr. Lindsay Anderson!

  • When I first heard this amazing tune, I thought the singer was Eric Burdon. Now I find out that it's Alan Price, the keyboard player from the same band as Burdon! Weird, huh?

  • Loved this opening. Nice way to start a movie.

  • I luv this song, it rocks!

Is it me or does this sound a bit like The Who? lol

  • Great! years ago in Moscow it was the only western movie (lucku man) allowed and we, being 15-17 y.o's just got crazy, love A Price!!!

  • Great movie, great music!!!

    I love this video!!!

    Hola!!!

  • a classic example of late 60s 70s art. Great directors collaborating with great musicians. Just like Harold and Maude- Ashby and Cat Stevens, or The Graduate - Mike Nichols and Simon and Garfunkel

  • Long before VCRs, there were many more theatres, and some were what were called "repertory" theatres that charged 50 cents, changed what they showed every few days but films would often come back--they'd print a playbill of what they were showing for six weeks or so. I'd go to the Strand Theatre in Ocean Beach (San Diego) for every single showing of this movie (usually a double feature with Malcolm MacDowell's other film of the era, "If.") I had to have seen it 30 times. Finally found it on DVD.

  • Fabulous! In 1975 (I was 18 and we formed a school band), played this song ... great stuff!

  • This movie and "The Ruling Class" by Peter Barnes and starring Peter O'Toole are my all time favorite flicks. I'm thinking that may be why I have a hard time getting folks to go to the movies with me.

  • Honestly, the film annoyed me. But I love Malcolm Mcdowell, and Alan Price. Totally worth watching, even if it's just for them.

  • OLM is not a sequel. It was part of a triology Lindsay Anderson directed over the years using the same character.

Anderson is best remembered for his "Mick Travis" trilogy of feature films, all of which star Malcolm McDowell as Travis: If...., O Lucky Man! and Britannia Hospital.

  • cookcalchel is correct. Malcolm McDowell as "Mick Travis" is a recurring element in all three films. There are some sly allusions to the previous movies in OLM! and BH, but it's understood that he's not playing the same guy, even though in each film, the guy is named "Mick Travis."

If... and O Lucky Man! are awesome.

Britannia Hospital? Not so much. Malcolm/"Mick" is pretty much a peripheral character, or an extended "cameo," as it were.

  • This is a truely great movie, and the music is what really makes it for me

  • Just in youtube we can listen to this incredible song, I am a kucky man again!

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS SONG "happyhero1985"

    +5*****

  • suuperb movie...good 2 see this.. cheers

  • In the DVD with Malcolm McDowell and Alan Price doing the commentary, Price said the bottle on top of the organ was home brew from Newcastle. The director Lindsay Anderson got it for the shooting and Price obliged him by drinking it. He said he was stewed during all of the songs in O' Lucky Man.

  • I love this song, movie, anything to do with Malcolm McDowell really. Thanks for posting!

  • What doth that great, gaping grin portend?

  • have u seen CALIGULA?

  • I have seen parts of it. Not my favorite though. Have you seen the movie If..., that is one of my all time Malcolm McDowell faves. That and A Clockwork Orange.

  • I think that Malcolm should have won the Oscar for his performance in Blue Thunder...

  • I agree, he was AWESOME in that movie. He made the entire film completly worth while.

  • I think malcolm M. should have won the oscar ... but for his performance in A clockwork orange I think it was pretty good and I love that movie

  • It sure was a great peformance. I own the DVD and watch it a couple of times a year...(I was joking about Blue Thunder...that was Roy Scheider's film all the way...)

  • It's really cool hearing about everyone else whose life was changed by this film...It's a masterpiece. Why can't movies this good be made anymore?

  • Brilliant Film and Sountrack!

My favourite song from the film is Sell Sell.

    Great stuff!!!

  • half pig!!

  • Half sheep, actually.

  • An 11-year-old's nightmares -- for weeks. Twisted stuff.

  • That's is a wonderful film. Great.

  • one of my favourite films, Pricey is a genius

  • If you enjoyed THIS song, check out The Alan Price Fan Forum website. You'll find lots of music, info on films, news about current performances and upcoming tours, exclusive photos, exclusive releases and much more! alanpricefansforum(DOT)org(DOT)uk

  • That's too freaky that bit with the Sheepman. That is in this movie right? That horrible half man half sheep guy under the blanket? Kramer's Pigman was pretty funny. That's maybe what made me look for this movie. I only watched Pigman episode last week.

  • Great movie,amazing music!!!

  • I saw part of this movie being made in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England many years ago.

Had a drink in a pub with some of the camera crew, plus Malcom McDowell and Arthur Lowe.

  • This movie created me, i was 15 years old while i have seen it, but i still remember. My favourite movie and perfect soudtrack.I love it!

  • Thanks for posting. I had almost totally forgotten about this strange, but brilliant movie. Still, it's one of those movies where the soundtrack perfectly fits, if not eclipses, the movie. I like Poor People as well.

  • Fucking brilliant song! Fucking brilliant movie! Out in May on DSVD in the UK!!! Hooray!!!

  • Ah, getting to see this was a highlight of a misspent college edumacation.

  • I've never seen Seinfeld, but I'm sure it was a pigman in this film?

  • This film had a massive effect on me when I saw it in my teens. I never got it out of my mind for weeks. I never forgot the pigman. Who would think it would almost come true? Brilliant song too.

  • Lovely - this is exactly what I came to youtube for tonight. Alan Price is a legend, and this film is the absolute dog's bollocks.

The fuck is Kramer? Is he that nigger guy?

  • "cool thank u"

  • this movie is where kramer and the pig man came from

  • you can get the DVD on Amazon for $15. Spend another 10 and you'll get free shipping!

  • I bought the DVD at a video store in Stratford Ontario.

Future Shop sells the DVD too.

    "where??"

  • I bought O Lucky Man on DVD for $16.99 just before Christmas and it's really good.

  • Me too! I've been looking for it for decades! I like all the songs in the film. Also like the film. Like the irony. Like the reality. Fantastic film. Will never forget it.

  • Blimey! I have been looking for this song for YEARS!!!Thanks, Happyhero1985, you've made my bleeding year, Lad!

Now to get hold of a copy of the film....

  • It is a crime of the century that Alan Price

was not even nominated in 1973. Instead Oscar

went to Marvin Hamlisch for "The Way We Were".

Anybody remembers that movie? At all? And he

got another one for stealing the soundtrack

to "Sting" from Scott Joplin. What a joke.

  • I for one NEVER overlooked this soundtrack. I've got it on vinyl when it first came out last century. Still sounds great.

  • Maybe I am a lucky man after all. A great script and Alan Price composes great lyrics.

  • Have it on the QT that Alan Price has written a musical due to arrive in London's West End some time next year...inspired by O Lucky Man!......

  • When noone can tempt ya' with heaven or hell, YOU'LL BE A LUCKY MAN!

  • i've been listening to the soundtrack all week in the car. The video is beautiful, tired looking, smoky rooms and a simple song. 1970s - is there anything you can't amaze us with!

  • I agree jwild49!! Best soundtrack ever! Any one have it on cd?

  • I think the soundtrack is now available. Try AMAZON

  • love the movie and the soundtrack is even better the album was very hard to get after 1990 it was briefly released on cd by a german label then deleted ..go figure..I managed to pick up the original album for $8 aus thank god oh and what happened between him and the Animals well he was basically a total arsehole and the rest especialy Burdon couldnt stand him great album though

  • This is one of the best songs I've ever heard, simple, direct, great lyrics 10/10. Whatever happened to between him and the animals?

  • this was a great, great album...great memories also. one question,- where are all the other good songs on that album?

  • Easily the greatest soundtrack to amazing

movie - what takes them so long to release

    it on DVD?

  • Ever had an older friend with slightly different taste who turns you onto something you'd never find yourself? My friend Charlie wanted me to go with him to see "O Lucky Man" in the early 1980s...Smart guy that Charlie...

  • Shit i really want to see this movie

  • Warner Brothers is releasing "O Lucky Man!" on DVD on October 21st. There's a 2 DVD special edition available for pre-order on Amazon for $14.99!!

  • If you like this song by Alan Price, check out his Fan Forum website. We've got music, films, news, exclusive photos, exclusive releases and much more! alanpricefansforum(dot)org(dot)uk

  • This film has become even more relevant today in this age of 9/11 con jobs and cctv big brother surveillance systems, and FOX news LIARS all over the place pushing for the removal of the Bill of Rights. Don't fall for the con job. Wake up, this film should help you wake up. see it now.

  • This Movie is a MASTERPIECE of PURE art and film making.

  • one of the biggest movies of my life! You have to see it..

  • I really love Alan Price!

He has been a great inspiration to me over the years!!!

  • Alan Price, ex brillant keyboard player of The Animals. Yes, he doesn't sing too bad, either. Thanks for posting.

  • Great musician, great film

  • Fantastic epic brillaint movie and I can say the same about the sountrack. Juast sheer genius pairing. i treasure my vhs and my cd. The epitome of the 70s and still relevant today

  • If it were possible for me to think Amanda even cooler than I already did, her citing O LUCKY MAN would have done it. Is BRITTANIA HOSPITAL any good? That's the conclusion of the trilogy, right?

  • have not seen it yet!

  • If I find a greymarket source for it, do you want to know, or are you waiting for a legit release?

  • Anything dahling!

  • greatest film ever made

  • It really is extremely good, and if it will only come out on DVD so I can see it again, I will probably end up rating it one of my top two or three. The main reason it doesn't have Pride of Place right now is that's been too damn long since I've seen it. I also agree with the critic who said it was the best use of a rock soundtrack on a film ever.

  • At last If... is coming to DVD, now how's about this classic? Great clip!

  • This song meant a lot to me when it came out. I had it on an 8 track. Glad to have it back.

  • great...great song. post more Alan`s video.

  • Thanks for posting this clip! It's from my absolute favorite movie!

  • Me too. I remember seeing this film at the cinema. It has stayed with me ever since.ND
