On the road you can get 300 miles / 483 Kms and off road you will get 173 miles / 278 Kms.
The tank capacity is 454 litres.
You need to be in posession of an H class licence in order to drive a tracked vehicle on the road - or a provisional H with L plates and a full H licence holder in the turret.
Great vid. I'm thinking of getting a 432 or a Spartan FV103, How do you register the vehicle for the road if it's just got it's reg number. Will it need to be q plated to tax it?. Also I hear they can't go faster than 20mph on the road and they cant be more than 2.28m wide? do you know if this is true.
@Greenlaiming. There has been some talk of DVLA refusing to register them due to them being over width. However, I know of at least four FV432's being registered since without any issues at all. Those registered without issues simply did not include the width on the application forms. If you can obtain the Army release document issued when the vehicle was first sold, it has all the information required by DVLA. Pre 1973 vehicles will be taxed Historic, hence no road tax fee.
28-30 mph on the straight - that's fast enough in one of these, especially with the combined steering / braking assemblies. CVRT will do silly speeds - I seem to remeber a Scorpion clocked doing over 70mph - great until you have to stop quickly!!!
@markheliops.... I spent many a happy hour driving one of these in BAOR Germany .... 02 EA 88. 53C was my call sign :o) .... I wish I knew where it was now, as I tried to buy it about 15 years ago, but the army had already sold it :o(
You can pick up an FV432 for around £4000 for a runner. A mint one will cost in the region of £10,000. We sold this one for £9000. It went to New Zealand.
nice.... but i always run in my Saracen with the headlights on, even when not in a 'convoy' situation... just to keep Joe Public more aware of how big/wide the thing is... lovely sounding motor, anyways...I love the sound of them diesel 2 strokes....
Crikey some good and bad memories there, good times with a section of Sappers in the back, bad times losing the left steering and ending up going off a road bridge and landing on its side on railway tracks in Germany. Oh and I still can't stand the noise of the cooling fans in ma lug ole's, Thankfully I was promoted up to CVRT's, 4.2 Jag engine, de-restricted with the use of a small screwdriver and electronic ignition, clocked at 82mph, much better than the 36mph out of a 432 biscuit box...
You are allowed on roads with a tracked vehicle in the UK - max speed 20mph but you are not allowed on motorways. Any damage caused by metal tracks will be the resposibility of the vehcile owner. No worries with the FV432 as it has rubber track pads.
32mph is the top speed these are governed to.

quite a fast vehicle , seems very smooth riding on the road , perhaps you will do a bit of off roading at a rally or some event ?
