@pa3kj0shua I think they are cool, especially since its availible in manual w/ turbo, hard to find american cars with those cool options like that. looks bold too!
I don't believe in "fuel efficieny" All they are doing now is created smaller cars with either bigger gas tanks or smaller turbo charged engines. That's not fuel efficieny technology, that's just reducing size.
Does anybody know where I can find the other "Chevy-Sonic" commercial?? It's the one where the song is like 'tonightttt we are younnnng' and the people have a mud fight, and another part where they catch fireflies and stuff. I LOVE the song and I really want to get that song!! Please help:)
@wvbu11 Umm your so wrong my friend their are only certain vehicle that are made in Japan by Toyota/Scion/Lexus. You really have know idea what you are talking about , Thats is why you own a Sonic which is GM Korean vehicle good luck with it. BTW its not made here just assembled. More like shame on you for thinking GM is still an American car maker.. BOOO to you SUCKER!!!
Another POS by GM, just close the doors GM you lost your edge always cheap and unreliable cars you give. Back in the day you were a good car maker but not anymore. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@wvbu11 Sorry its assembled here in the USA why not see where the parts come from first before you get all excited sayin its built here in the USA.. Haha again GM lies to its customers all the time not a surprise.
I'd like to know if you ever need to idle-down and cool off the 1.4 turbo to prevent coking, and if the turbo necessitates more frequent oil changes. I downloaded the manual and can find no mention of that. It's a big deal for those who want long-term reliability. My understanding is that the engine is Korean while the rest is made in America.
it would figure the comments would be full of idiots trying to support foriegn cars, and we wonder why the economy is being destroyed. traders. this car is awsome as small cars go, its even got an available 6 speed stick, with a turbo charged engine stock. for the price, i think its gonna be my next car. i wanted something small and sporty to modify for rally racing conditions, and this little thing is perfect, and it looks sexy. just my opinion though.
@MsJonothan, sorry to rain on that patriotism, but Sonic engines are Korean or Mexican made, at least initially, as the manufacturing migrates here. (source: Autoweek article, 8/02/2011)
@alshehri911 how do you expect them to keep at number one spot this year if they don't expand their horizons? Not focusing on small cars is what got them into a little trouble in the past. Most people would love a big RWD full size sedans, but the cost is daunting, so they need to cater to everyone. The new impala is set to be out in the next couple years, and for the few who can afford a big V8, there's the CTS-V, and I'm sure cadillac and buick have a full size flagship coming.
@roberth214, since everyone shares the same finite oil supply (see 1970 U.S. peak oil production) I don't see it as just a matter of some people being able to afford wasteful vehicles. Money is not a resource unto itself, and much of it is ill-gotten in the first place.
Everyone should get a conscience and conserve this crucial, limited resource; not just cater to personal wants. Yes, I know that's a tough sell with the average CYA mentality in America. But that's the whole problem.
@alshehri911, and throw in a big dose of Peak Oil denial and drill, baby, drill while you're at it with that big car nostalgia. There was no contract signed with nature to provide endless cheap oil, or without side effects like AGW. Americans have become a greedy bunch of whiners who think everything's owed to them in spades.
Another cool marketing vid marred by internet trolling. When you have control data that shows the earth has not been warming since the Ice Age, come find me. Until then, take your eco-religion somewhere else. Buying small cars is intelligent for numerous economic, ecological, social, and national security reasons. Attempting to change weather patterns is probably the least-intelligent reason to buy a small car. Fire and brimstone makes your ethos even less appealing.
@mylexicon2, let's see a citation for this "control data" of yours. Where?
Have you seen the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature study (i.e. BEST) which can be viewed on YouTube and the source website? That time-plot is very important because it was done by a former skeptic and partly funded by the Koch brothers, who were hoping for different results.
Now, their spin is "OK, it's warming but you have to prove that Man is causing it." Remember, they started with the same lie about "NO warming."
@mylexicon2, you're just another petty liar pretending to have insight into something you have no real interest in understanding. Almost all legitimate climatologists accept AGW, just as the vast majority of biologists accept evolution. And deniers of both have lots in common.
CO2 has been known for its role in the greenhouse effect since the mid-1800s.You'll find a good timeline of AGW science by searching for "The Discovery of Global Warming - American Institute of Physics" (go ahead, try it)
I understand AGW perfectly well. First, AGW has no control so it isn't scientific. Second, if AGW is true, you still have to prove that global warming is bad for humanity. Statistically speaking, it would be damn near impossible with historical data.
AGW is a bunch of religious fanatics who want the world to be a simple place where scientific fact reigns supreme. Unfortunately for them, we are trying to change consumer behavior and government policy.
@mylexicon2, there's a video you can watch in a matter of seconds that disproves your parroted lies. Look up "Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature" (study) and watch global warming occurring right before your beady eyes.
You probably know as much about AGW as Rush Limbaugh knows about it, which is close to nothing. Same goes for evolution, which I'd wager you also think is a "Godless plot against what our nation was founded on" or similar bullshit paranoia.
I said you have no control data. I'm not sure you understand what control data is or why it is important. There is consensus that the earth has been getting warmer for hundreds of thousands of years. Here is what you must prove:
1. Humans are making the earth warmer
2. Warming is bad for humans (statistics indicate otherwise)
3. Cooling will improve the weather
If you understood humanity, you would quit wasting your time on futile endeavors.
As for evolution, I can go into my garden, and create hybrid species (Mendel). How does evolution explain? Scientists can clone and create living organisms. How does evolution explain? You could claim the human brain is a random chaos machine (an instrument of evolution), but then your science would be meaningless.
Creationism is real, and it exists in secular form. Whether it has spiritual implications is up to the individual to decide.
Marketers could do more good with a decent lie than ridiculous junk science. You are, in essence, promising people that if they buy a different car, the weather will change. I cannot comprehend such severe delusions. Thankfully, AGW is not necessary b/c many good reasons exist to buy small cars and re-examine public policy. AGW is a waste of time and money--a religion for hypocrites who are too cool for religion.
@mylexicon2, good job of ignoring the data I suggested you look up. You people can't handle reality when it upsets your greedy little worldview, so you amp-up the lies and never stop. I'm filing you under "dumb white trash."
@d1gps15 It doesn't matter if you like it or not a ZR-1 or Viper a lot of people don't like the GT-R or LFA and not only will a ZR-1 destroy the competition it costs less than the competition so even just by that its a win regardless

@jjaquu not really, even though the Cruze is a cool car i'm an owner of a 2007 Cobalt, i was hoping to see more advancement in this family car. it was a good balance of performance and economy, not to mention it looked pretty good.
When I first saw this car at the 2011 Houston Auto Show, I did think it had some Mitsubishi Lancer looks to its front. I do admit- I really do like the design of this car. Compared to the outgoing Aveo, this is a lovely design. I also love the interior. Cool little car here.
Chevrolet, please send Sonic to Brazil! Especially to replace the ugly Agile, and Cobalt (in Brazil will compete for the prize of ugliest car in the country !)!!!!
Who can doubt, look on the internet about Chevrolet Agile, and Cobalt in Brazil! HORROR!
This car is really great because for the first time Chevy has a quick turbo 4-cylinder production car that is made with american parts (easier to buy). It is comparable to Ford Focus RS's, VW GTI's, Subaru WRX's and Dodge Srt-4's. I really love the idea of it. This car was much needed to come out for chevy, I want to buy one after college.
@radicalpat9 the WRX is a 2.5L turbo, the GTI is a 1.8L I'm not sure about the others, but I'm betting the sonic is nothing like a a 265 HP all wheel drive WRX (305HO in the STI). Granted both the GTI and WRX are more expensive than the sonic.
Personally I'd rather buy a all wheel drive Cruze eco hatchback, but they don't make one so it looks like I'll have to get a 2012 Impreza hatch.
Saw one at the dealer last week and was surprised how nice it looked and how much room was inside. And the price was a pleasant surprise as well. Well done.
@NotARealUTubeAccount but.. because most Asia or Europe help America car much better than you.. because they much know how to design cars much better make the size cars.. exact like Japan cars make good size design.. not ugly!..Do you seem, the Dodge Challenger, Avenger, Chevrolet Mabliu, is too big a size and legth cars.. impala was fine, but old one is not.. impala was an animal, that's animal power..
cool car! i do like the hatchback more than the sedan. above all else, i like the aggressive styling at the front and the cool looking dash. i'll buy it with the turbo!
yes, finally an american built car. 100% american.. or 30% Chinese, 20% Taiwanese, 20% Vietnamese, 20% Other and 10% american? Oh yea, the parts may be assembled in america, but 90% of the car is manufactured outside the us because of whatever reasons. Runs Deep.
@RazorKnuckles360 why do S.Korea help usa ? lol?? your Korea were sake help america car faster, that mean u want to make America cars faster than Korea cars..lol
So let me get this straight... GM dropped the 4.5L duramax for medium and light-duty trucks to invest in a shitty little "Import" looking hatch-back.. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against compacts, but unless you live Europe or somewhere small, there's really no reason to own something like this. I wish GM could re-introduce a mid-size two door rear-wheel drive coupe like a Monte-Carlo or an impala, have an optional v8 or (duramax diesel) differential options too. That's what I want!
Saw this at the Orange County Auto Show last weekend. Hard to believe this was the Aveo. Nice and roomy. I will defiantly take one out for a test drive.
lmao.. see that fucking republicans?!? Obama has done something good in this country.. He gave Chevy another chance and is doing way better than any other car brand!
@keeper253x it isn't a just rebadged Aveo. It is completely redesigned so it isn't an Aveo anymore. Although it still has the Aveo name in Europe, that is pretty much a it has from the old Aveo.
@MeIsThomas Heh yeah it is a completely different car underneath. The cruze is too and they both seem like fine vehicles compared to the garbage that chevy had been coming out with since the early part of last decade. When chevy came out with the redesigned maibu I thought it showed chevy was committed to building quality vehicles again. The sonic does look a lot like an aveo but it looks fine for what it is and under the sheetmetal it is, like you're saying, a completely different car.
its nice to see that chevy is adding a pontiac touch to there ads and cars. Even tho there cars were the same platform the pontiacs body always looked a tad bit meaner
@manonthemount They are providing jobs for Chinese workers, not American, with US taxpayer money. This is known and there is no way around this truth. Better luck next time fagonthemount =)
@TurboFuss1 why chinese drive Chevrolet ?? because china help usa, hong kong isn't and hong kong like jap cars.. jap car is faster chevrolet corvette, exact GT-R. if you're chinese, which do you think Jap or America car faster ?

Chevy needed a good small car, but this looks like a conservatively redesigned Aveo. What happened to being the industry leader?

Will it break CM tradition and get more than 30mpg?

@SakoTGrimes Ha, I meant GM tradition. Fail on my spelling, and GM on design.

This car is really great because for the first time Chevy has a quick turbo 4-cylinder production car that is made with american parts (easier to buy). It is comparable to Ford Focus RS's, VW GTI's, Subaru WRX's and Dodge Srt-4's. I really love the idea of it. This car was much needed to come out for chevy, I want to buy one after college.
radicalpat9 4 months ago 9
@radicalpat9 focus RS? GM if your going to plant "satisfied customers", do a good job
Alex19al 4 months ago
@radicalpat9 the WRX is a 2.5L turbo, the GTI is a 1.8L I'm not sure about the others, but I'm betting the sonic is nothing like a a 265 HP all wheel drive WRX (305HO in the STI). Granted both the GTI and WRX are more expensive than the sonic.
Personally I'd rather buy a all wheel drive Cruze eco hatchback, but they don't make one so it looks like I'll have to get a 2012 Impreza hatch.
Cynyr13 2 months ago
@radicalpat9 It's more like a Fiesta/Polo and not a Focus/Golf.

@radicalpat9 if that Chevy can beat... Nissan Tiida or Sentra SE-R can comparable!....

Boy does it ever seem like Chevy is hiring fake people on YouTube to post comments about this car. Its ugly as fuck.
NotARealUTubeAccount 5 months ago
@NotARealUTubeAccount but.. because most Asia or Europe help America car much better than you.. because they much know how to design cars much better make the size cars.. exact like Japan cars make good size design.. not ugly!..Do you seem, the Dodge Challenger, Avenger, Chevrolet Mabliu, is too big a size and legth cars.. impala was fine, but old one is not.. impala was an animal, that's animal power..
d1gps15 4 months ago
cool car! i do like the hatchback more than the sedan. above all else, i like the aggressive styling at the front and the cool looking dash. i'll buy it with the turbo!
MeatballYaro2 5 months ago
yes, finally an american built car. 100% american.. or 30% Chinese, 20% Taiwanese, 20% Vietnamese, 20% Other and 10% american? Oh yea, the parts may be assembled in america, but 90% of the car is manufactured outside the us because of whatever reasons. Runs Deep.
swagger9000 5 months ago
@swagger9000 The car is Designed by germans and americans, Parts from koreans and americans and made in the usa. 25% German 25% Korean, 50% American.
camouflagecamaro99 5 months ago
They just renamed the Aveo and called it Sonic. And its U.S. built unlike the Aveo that was made in S. Korea by some other car company .

FANADICALCOWHEAD 5 months ago
@FANADICALCOWHEAD No reason? gas prices are hideous but with this car i can fill up on $30 from E and its fast for its class and the gas lasts.

Saw this at the Orange County Auto Show last weekend. Hard to believe this was the Aveo. Nice and roomy. I will defiantly take one out for a test drive.
GIRlovesWaffles 5 months ago
I am proud to say i help assemble these cars in Lake Orion, Michigan.
They are cool subcompacts. 5 or 6sp. Turbo!
Its the only subcompact car currently being built in America. The Ford Fiesta is built in Mexico :(

- No drive test cars for people who make car reviews!
ADVERTISING DEPARTMENT SUCKS!

yertv98 5 months ago
Finally chevy is getting with the times and..... rebadging the aveo..... lol
keeper253x 5 months ago
@keeper253x it isn't a just rebadged Aveo. It is completely redesigned so it isn't an Aveo anymore. Although it still has the Aveo name in Europe, that is pretty much a it has from the old Aveo.
MeIsThomas 5 months ago 2
@MeIsThomas Heh yeah it is a completely different car underneath. The cruze is too and they both seem like fine vehicles compared to the garbage that chevy had been coming out with since the early part of last decade. When chevy came out with the redesigned maibu I thought it showed chevy was committed to building quality vehicles again. The sonic does look a lot like an aveo but it looks fine for what it is and under the sheetmetal it is, like you're saying, a completely different car.

@GlaciusNLV That's the way I felt when I was a GM loyalist. But I realized GM was really just a sham. Maybe VW or Mazda would suit you better.
TurboFuss1 5 months ago

Mazda more or less is a ford, and VW's are out of the price range. Ford too if you get any decent features.

GM bailout was a scam to invest US taxpayer money in China. Outright theft and corruption to the highest degree.
