I can compare 3 game shows to Merv Griffin's Crosswords: Lingo because of spelling, Double Dare because of the spoilers and Scrabble because they build a letter on an earlier answer. Double Dare's (Alex Trebek) spoilers were Ph D's while the spoilers on Merv Griffin's Crosswords are regular ones.
I remembered Michael Falk from when he won the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions which went from May 8-19, 2006. He got $250,000, Vik Vaz got $100,000 for finishing second and Bill MacDonald got $50,000 for finishing third. Michael Falk was a gambler on that $1200 clue in the African Capitals category which was the first clue he selected and it was one of the two Daily Doubles.

Crosswords, like Lingo, also has the "It's not what you say, it's what you spell" rule, don't they?
