Can't seem to find videos on Kuku that is actually being performed by Africans! Maybe black people should start doing the river dance and charge people to watch us.
@vixenmrb I get what you are say! But there are some other great African Dances besides Kuku. One of my favorites is Dununba. Go to Youtube and put in "Fat Dununba" It's the video by "bobidjo"- they aren't even performing for an audience, they are just dancing, IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY! Imagine if it were a performance! Those girls can dance their butts off!
Ooooops! My bad, I did not finish watching the video, this is Kuku! They started with something else...my bad! The threw in some of their own moves, and their moves were choppy and some were cut off, but I TRULY APPRECIATE THEM WANTING TO LEARN THIS ART!
@zoelorek Well I actually started dancing with the Washington Ballet, at the age of 8 and stayed with them for 3 years, and then went on to study with Bee Davis for another four years. But I guess as a black girl, my passions have been Djembe and Sabar for the past 7 years. I gave you some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISISM, as well as a compliment, and as a person in the arts, who is serious, interested and sincere about doing well in their craft, they should be able to accept both, with grace and class!
@psylence101 One of the women is in fact his one wife. They are married and have children. The others are not his wives, nor his lovers. They have husbands of their own and children too. Watch what you're thinking.
My hats off to you... Well done. Every aspect is excellent - the soloist (who is he?), the dancers and especially the lady on the dunduns. Congratulations, keep up the good work and I hope you can come to Australia one day.
In what african region do the traditional african women carry drums on their heads?? Or more appropriate where do white women in african carry drums on their heads and beat the drum?? Hmmmm, What are do you guys represent, or pretend to anyway?
what's your problem? sometimes african performers carry drums on their head. is your problem that they are women, or white, or white women? & why's that a problem, hmm? for the africans that created this form of expression that these performers have had the patience, understanding & discipline to learn, kuku is a creative act.
if i hear an african villager singing beethoven, i'm happy that human creativity is spread lovingly around the planet, not concerned with who's pretending to be whom
nice..

I am totally digging how the dancers are incorporating the drumming with dancing. Generally dancers dance and drummers drum.
Thanks for posting.
This is ENERGETIC DRUMMING AND DANCING
