As he passes out from a drug/alcohol overdose. Sure, the guy is old school and that song was an anthem of his generation but I think the point of his character is that he doesn't stand for cheap, poppy writing like this. Tom Kapinos, I've really enjoyed your work but I hope to see your fingerprints on something fresh in the coming years.
Critics are critics, and I can't claim to be different right now without a gaseous fireball igniting inside my anus, but I really thought that the writing took a dive in season 4.Some of the lines just sound grossly overdone and cheesy. "It's getting dark, too dark to see." -- Come on, are you fucking serious? Hank Moody is supposed to be one of the most brilliant literary minds of his generation (albeit with a lot of profound problems) and I just can't see him quoting Knockin' On Heaven's Door
@MrCavitysChessCorner granted he just had a fuck ton of pills and alcohol, idk if you've ever had the good fortune to try that but it's not exactly easy to think straight let alone write with the "literary genius" that we have come to expect and love from him. In my opinion I think the writers were being realistic when they wrote this.
@MrCavitysChessCorner I agree with you that the writing dropped in season 4, but I still think that this is one of the better scenes. That Guns 'n' Roses quote is the only shitty line in this scene. And right after he wrote that line, he passed out. I can imagine he wasn't at his best right before that happened...
Good point. And as a side note: The Guns 'n' Roses version of that song is actually a cover -- Bob Dylan made the original. Regardless, you make a fair point. I'm probably not going to watch season 5, lol
The good things about Hank is that hes being serious. Sure he fucks up sometimes but who doesn't? We need to fuck up things sometimes cuz thats how we learn our mistakes... He really tryes to make everything alright for Becca.
