Thanks for uploading! This song is the song that made me pick up the guitar in the first place, so it was really nice to have a such a great tutorial THAT ACTUALLY MADE SENSE and ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE THE SONG. =)
Awww Andy I'm a little bit in love with you. I love it when I type in a guitar tut and Nail guitar has one!!! Cuz then I know I'm gonna Nail it (ha see what I did there!)
All the covers I have seen sound good but why doesnt anyone play them the way Marcus does in an open D tuning? it is much easier to play and sounds a lot better.
in the little intro that you give a demo, it looks and sounds like you are playing
bass, strum - up, down, up
in the tutorial you say miss the first "up". I could be wrong, the demo version you do at speed sounds like there's an extra note and sounds more correct?
I LOVE THIS LESSON!!! im learning it from my teacher and this was great to look at in between the lesson. the backing tracks and slow downs are fantastic, thank you so much youre wonderful!
has anyone ever told you you look a bit like rob swire from pendulum?? he is australian too!! maybe youre related!!!!! or maybe you ARE him.. hmm , btw if you are actually newsealandish then i am sorry its just im not good with accents and you sound australian but if you are newsealandish im sorry. but your cool :D
just discovered you and i LOVE your channel. i've always struggled with strum patterns, but you've made it so easy. i have never had anyone teach with such effective results, you are amazing. Oh and just so you know: the little blurb over your head says its supposed to be played without a capo, but in the video for the song the guitarist has a capo on five just like you. just thought you'd like to know that you're doing it right ^__^
@133Chadbird It looks like a Tanglewood TW45-DLX-B. It is a Super Folk body. I have the Tanglewood TFA which is an Orchestra Body. Both of those body styles are smaller and thinner waisted than a dreadnought. I like the Cedar topped Tanglewoods.
hey im having a problem where youtube loads abit of the video and then stops completly, is anyone else having this problem its pissing me off coz im trying to watch this.
I'm not sure if you mentioned this, because I didn't watch all the way through... but I was wondering two things. 1.) What key is your version in and 2.) is it in the same key that Mumford and sons play it in?
Probably a stupid question but I was just wondering.
This is great but it's not the way Marcus Mumford plays it! I wish someone would explain how he actually plays it. He must tune his guitar slightly differently or something, I can't quite figure it out...:(
Just to go into a bit more depth... When you start playing more folk, especially finger style or lap... (I.E. when you're not strumming all the time.)... solo, if you pick the low E and A strings (lowest 2 notes) it gives an illusion of having a backing. Alot of players do it... Kaki King, Preston, Erik Mongrain... But here we're just strumming sooo... yea
Only just stumbled across this video lesson and all I can think to say is AWESOME!! Definitely gonna give this a try now, and will be checking out your other lessons. Thanks so much.
One little thing though, I can't quite get a crasp of the strumming for the c chord during the verse where you finger the second fret on the two strings etc etc. Haha Would you mind explaining that little bit?
idk if it is just my guitar or what, but i put my capo on the 5th fret and it sounded so much different than his, is this in some special type of tuning or something?
Thank you so much for this lesson, I've listened to this song so many times since I downloaded it yesterday. The ease of this lesson means, though I don't have my guitar with me at the moment, I know all the chords and the strumming patterns and I'm confident that I can play it when I get her back.
I really appreciate the backing track. I think it's really necessary for a song like this. Now I just need to be able to build up my speed to play along with it. :)
Backing tracks are very helpful, only one thing, could you make them much, much louder please because i dont have speakers for my laptop and trying to hear it is difficult when im banging away on my guitar! Thanks for the great tutorial, any chance of a "Roll Away Your Stone" tutorial also by Mumford!
I have got a question about something that is driving me nuts trying to figure out in this song. How does he play that mute sounding strumming on the Am chord at the very start of the intro which is also done for the verse when he is singing on the Am aswell? I would me very gratefull if u could get back to me and help me with this one.thanks for the lesson
mate, i have been learning the guitar for just a year and I have viewed loads of different song lessons on youtube but yours is far and away the best lesson I have ever seen. Absolutely brilliant!! great lesson! only took me a couple of hours get the the components mastered and up to speed, my problem is timing, i always to fast, especially going into the 'bridge'. I'm playing with actually song not your backing track, any chance for some advice and the bpm for this song. cheers!!
