Despite all the warnings that people are giving you about the appendages (which you obviously know), I'd say be more afraid of the tail. I was recently informed that they have spines on their tails that can cause almost more damage (to humans at least) than the punchers. Out of all the mantis shrimps there are about 2..possibly 3 types of Mantis Shrimp that can actually break glass. A peacock most certainly can break glass when its reached the adult stage (possibly some time before) but unless you give it a real reason to it probably wont smack the glass around too often..even then the easiest solution to the problem would be to get an acrylic tank and then people wouldnt have to worry...Mantis Shrimp breaking glass? Not a myth, it just varies with the species.
