You're correct. The comic books and the video game aren't exactly consistent with Christian theology even there is awareness of it that is seen in mentions of Hell, Heaven, angels, demons, crucifixes, Catholic church. However since it is a fantasy comic book most of the stuff that happens is in category of impossibility from Xtian point of view

@coggearalex the darkness is the representation of satan and the angelus of god. They are polar opposites, the power of light and the power of dark, sort of like satan and god. The darkness can leave hell because hell was made by the darkness so it can control who leaves and who stays, including itself. Jackie went to hell because he was kind of a bastard and the darkness partly controlled his soul so he sent him to hell while he repared his body.
@coggearalex Last i heard Demons were the things which had those weird guns near the end of the 2nd one when hes chosen to reject the asylum. Since demons mean "Servant of Evil" Evil + Servant = Demon, since demon is suppose to be the lesser forms of Satan to do his bidding. And no hes not the embodiment (you were so close! Nice job, i had trouble spelling that...Dictionary ftw!) Hes just a vessel. Used by the darkness for chaos and yadda yadda. And its not a demon. If it is.No make-y sense.
This game's storytelling was absolutely amazing, but the gameplay was lacking, imo. The Darkness 2 has amazing "Tear Them Apart In a Furious Blood Haze" gameplay, where I can finally see everything clearly and see my handy work, but the story was weaker. Combine the story of this game and the gameplay of the second and you've got a true work of ultra-violent art.

When he's done, we see Jackie's handiwork as an interior decorator, with Paulie's bloody entrails splattered all over the room as it's new curtains and wallpaper. That ending felt satisfying, but the game does it well too. Still, wish you could make Paulie squeal for what the bastard did.
They didn't really want to make realistic graphics, they gave it a cartoonish look instead, which in my opinion it's a pretty nice idea considering this comes from a comic book.

@PunkNolife I know this comment is old but to explain: what I believe is that Jackie was on the verge of dying but met Jenny in a sort of Limbo and she thrusts him back to the land of the living. The "they" Jenny is referring to I believe to be the judges of death or something along that line. Jackie wanted to stay or in this case die and be with Jenny. She saves him from the darkness and allows him to return to the living giving Jackie a chance to bottle the darkness up and control it.

When I read the comics, I always imagined an adaptation would end playing '...And Love Said No' by HIM (Particularly right after Jackie sees a woman who resembles Jenny in the park). I'm don't listen to them often, but it fit in my head. Of course, I'm a filmmaker, so I imagine shit like that. :/

@PunkNolife I know this comment is old but to explain: what I believe is that Jackie was on the verge of dying but met Jenny in a sort of Limbo and she thrusts him back to the land of the living. The "they" Jenny is referring to I believe to be the judges of death or something along that line. Jackie wanted to stay or in this case die and be with Jenny. She saves him from the darkness and allows him to return to the living giving Jackie a chance to bottle the darkness up and control it.

Bought this game 'cos I heard a lot of good about it, haven't even finished it, boring as fuck :\
Got to admit though, the Darkness has a cool voice and it's graphics are quite good for 2007.

@mujuma I'm going to agree with you there, didn't really care all that much for the game. But, apparently a lot of people like it and I'm sure i have things that I like that people find pretty boring also, so who am i to judge.

why is this better looking than the new one coming up just because of the graphics? the gameplay in the new one looks much more engaging and the story should be directed just as good as its the same people making it. look at all the execution moves in the new one i mean the only time Jackie uses the darkness that good in this game is in this cutscene but its still just a cutscene

I feel rather inhuman looking back to when i first beat the game, because i did not shed a tear for Jackie.
Maybe it was because i thought The Darkness was that much more of a interesting character.
I always perceived Jackie in the same way i did John Marston from Red Dead, just another revenge hungry protagonist hunting his killer.

This game is the Best ever,I Love the darkness his voice is Amazing,it sounds so inhuman and playing as the darkness is even better...slithering around everywhere and attacking people is so much fun.its a Very Epic Game :)

When I read the comics, I always imagined an adaptation would end playing '...And Love Said No' by HIM (Particularly right after Jackie sees a woman who resembles Jenny in the park). I'm don't listen to them often, but it fit in my head. Of course, I'm a filmmaker, so I imagine shit like that. :/
