Man, the imagery in this scene is...disturbing, to say the least. It's amazing that this made it through; the ESRB guys apparently have no grasp of symbolism.

A valid and well put opinion.. an interpretation of the scene that I have always held as well. Instances such as these really show how rare and fascinating a game like SH2 can be.. you just dont see many movies let alone games explore such serious topics in that unique of a way.. it really adds alot of depth IMO.

Less talented game designers might have made the monster simply out of Angela's father. But this is far better - it's a metaphysical embodiment of the actual act of abuse Angela suffered itself. The monster's "mouth" is on the top of Child-Angela's head as it rests on the bed-surface, so SHE is part of the monster also...in keeping with her victim-guilt that she was somehow to blame for what happened. Genius. Most horrors use monsters that are merely giant insects or something lame like that.

"Doormen"? The name given to the enemy by developers is "Abstract Daddy". Because it's an abstract representation of what Angela's father did to her. The surface is a bed, not a "door". More likely that each Abstract Daddy represents a separate occasion when Angela was abused. And they're in Lakeview because Angela herself has gone there - that's where you see her surrounded by the flames of her suffering (which 'it is like for her all the time').
There are other Abstract Daddies, with the same shape. They appear in the ruined Hotel - where Angela has gone, as you discover, and where you find her mounting the burning steps in the world as she sees it. My theory is that each instance of the Abstract Daddy monster represents a separate occasion when her father raped her.
The room is a womb. Angela's womb, to be precise. The things on the walls... well, you can probably guess what they mean. There are many because of the many times Angela's father raped her.
They're poles going in and out of the holes on the wall, and seeing as the monster represents the rape of Angela by her father, I think you can make the rest of the connection out.
I was a bed with legs and another thing uder it,it represents the times that her dad raped her...her guilt(her mom blamed her)mad a monster called the abstract DADDY.
Angela's father is a delusion specific to her, however, James'/Angela's Otherworld sort of mixed together, but James saw most of Angela's instead of the other way around. The living things are seen as monsters to James. The people Eddie kill are monsters to James, and so is Angela's father. They can't see their delusions. If Angela were to see Maria, she'd probably see her as her mom or something. Thats my viewpoint...

Yeah, everything just some mystery to be figured out. If that were true, why the hell are they called doormen? It's meant to look scary, not for some one with too much time on there hands to try to figure out some hidden mean that's not there.

"Doormen"? The name given to the enemy by developers is "Abstract Daddy". Because it's an abstract representation of what Angela's father did to her. The surface is a bed, not a "door". And if you can't see the patently obvious writhing figures in tableaux of sexual abuse on the bed...wait, did you really just call them "doormen?". Dude.

More likely that each Abstract Daddy represents a separate occasion when Angela was abused. And they're in Lakeview because Angela herself has gone there - that's where you see her surrounded by the flames of her suffering (which 'it is like for her all the time').

There are other Abstract Daddies, with the same shape. They appear in the ruined Hotel - where Angela has gone, as you discover, and where you find her mounting the burning steps in the world as she sees it. My theory is that each instance of the Abstract Daddy monster represents a separate occasion when her father raped her.

Angela's father is a delusion specific to her, however, James'/Angela's Otherworld sort of mixed together, but James saw most of Angela's instead of the other way around. The living things are seen as monsters to James. The people Eddie kill are monsters to James, and so is Angela's father. They can't see their delusions. If Angela were to see Maria, she'd probably see her as her mom or something. Thats my viewpoint...
