Not only is it great to hear this real eloquent speech, I have to say that Colin Firth's re-enactment of this speech was perfect. This accent, and pauses were true to the actual. That is how acting should be.

I'm a Brazilian guy, don't know nothing about the Royal Family, but I began to admire George VI after seeing the movie The King Speech, he is a wonderful case of overcoming.
I am literally left speechless and amazed at this speech. To think that this man, this king, had a stutter. You would not have known at all. He gave great solace and inspiration to his people in their time of need, and I suspect that he will continue to give his people hope as the times go on. He will forever be an inspiration.

Not only is it great to hear this real eloquent speech, I have to say that Colin Firth's re-enactment of this speech was perfect. This accent, and pauses were true to the actual. That is how acting should be.

There was never a law against a british regent marrying a divorcee. The decision was based on the prevailing social climate. Social norms change over time. Queen Wilhelmina fled because that was the only way she could keep fighting the occupiers and support the resistance movement. Had she stayed, she would undoubtedly been used as a puppet and forced to cooperate with the Nazis. King George was fortunate enough to be relatively safe on his island and able to rule from London. So, Queen Wilhelmina's actions were not cowardly, they were necessary.

It was read by a King with a speech deficit and with great difficulty but a King, who had to go to great lengths to overcome this difficulty. It's a humanizing aspect and a very humbling experience.
