You know what? I'm tired of all the "I'm sorry what my generation did to music". Because I'm not. I loooove Floyd and all classic rock. I'm 13, I play in a band, and we play these songs. I should be apologizing? No, its those horrible pop stars that need to. This generation can bring Floyd back, bring rock back, bring the blues back. Why complain, when you can DO it!!!
I think everyone should just take a chill pill and understand that pink floyds music is pure joy, and transfers all generations.. whether 16 or 60......in fact its been blaring out from planet earth for decades, transforming all other minds of intelligent life.....its there for all of us to enjoy till we meet our own demise,,,,R.I.P Rick Wright.
Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
i wasn't born in the wrong decade, unlike all these people whining that they were in various classic rock videos. i love this decade because it's allowed me to easily access my favorite music, films, and reading material at speeds unheard of during the times in which PF recorded this album. just because you were born post-1960s doesn't mean you can't enjoy pink floyd's glorious music any time you want, whether it be album cuts, bootlegs, or what have you.
I do agree with @alspageddi. We live in an amazing era and have access to amazing technologies, old and new. But what are we going to make of it? People usually complain about modern bands not being quite as "good" as older bands. But come on, If you guys are so upset about it why not try and make something yourselves? Buy an old tape recorder and record stuff. It's not the artists' duty to meet your requirements for good music.
You just don't hear great music like this anymore. The good old days of great music. Many rock bands today are way over produced. Also record companies these days are ruining albums with the loudness war. Whatever happened to dynamics in an album? Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is a timeless masterpiece. It will forever remain my favorite PF album.
I was there. Still got the ticket stub. Brilliant. First time I saw them was in Bristol for the Atom Heart Mother tour with Choir and orchestra. Timeless.
what's good about audience recordings for a pink floyd show (exclude the Animal Tour shows) is that the people are always quiet and listening to the music, thus you can always hear the music
there are still alot of your people out there who appreciate this brilliant music. mostly musicians who can sit down and really appreciate what floyd did.
I take these dusty old single-image bootleg youtube videos of incredibly performed music over any of iTunes's "top 10 hottest music videos" of practically nothing but today's rubbish. It's a kind of Floydian philosophy of music you just can't beat.
great we play it a lot at the weekends with my sisters they are very good at it. I was lucky enough to get it perfectly free for my ps3 from: 115 games . com they have literally hundreds and the best thing is they are all totally free oh also 0:14 - 2:54 was brilliant
@Malagax Every generation has its own genius. The 70s had this music. The 90s had the advent of the computer games. The 2000's had the Iraq war & the 1st black president. That makes up for the 80s which only had Whitney Houston who in the 90s decided that the greatest love of all was being a disgusting role model by snorting huge amounts of cocaine up her nose. Then there was the hippy music of the 60s, then the back of a 57 Chevy in the 50s which brings us back up to now! Whew!
@MisterNifty i dont see any geniuses in any of the decades that you mentioned except the 70s (and the 60s back..) and i was born in 1983. Musicalwise there's very little siginificant work today. It's a real shame
@Malagax Well, all the stars just lined up back then. All the groups back during that time really tried upstaging the other and ended up surprising instead. I mean, figure Led Zepplin was just another group at that time which, as we can see looking back on it now, those long haired fellows really knew what they were doing.
Strangely, southern power rock was a genre that came out of Duane Allman, used the Allman Brothers band as a model, and played the music in dedication to Duane.
@larry1594 not completely clueless, i was brought up on pink floyd and alot of the music from that time period and im 18. But the majority of people my age do ignore the beauty and talent of this music
@Estorial34 In spirit, definitely. It will live forever. But there will never be anything like this produced again. The newer stuff, especially over the past 10 years, is disposable. It has no meaning. It's nothing short of a joke. I don't see a future for these bubblegum artists that are around now.
@larry1594 well mine isnt totally clueless about it. everyone at my high school thinks they're badass because they listen to pink floyd when they're high. but its not actually about the music sadly
Not all of us. I'm 20 and have been obsessed with Pink Floyd since I was 13 and alot of the people I know are huge Floyd fans. Their music and lyrics are fresh, relevant, and original in any decade. Young people 100 years from now will still be listening to them and will be just as blown away as I and millions (billions?) of others have been since 1965.
@larry1594 NO my friend!!!you're wrong...I am 25 and i listen to pink floyd since i was 16...It's all about how high IQ people have...if you have high IQ you don't listen to lady gaga or bieber...And theres one thing that we(those who listens to good music)must think...we have to be able to continue to the newer generations the music WE listen to..otherwise the newer generations will listen gaga and bieber..So if our kids listen to Pink Floyd we must be proud..Otherwise...WE ARE LOOSERS!!!
@larry1594 Wright was the heart and soul of this group. He really saught after that golden chord and the magnificent whole of the group greater than the parts played by its individual players.
@MisterNifty Wright was a class act but I disagree with you. Wright was one of the creative genius' along with Gilmour. I think the heart of Pink Floyd was in David Gilmour because of his creativity with his endless guitar sounds and his vocals. He was their front man. The soul of Pink Floyd was Roger Waters and his song writing, but without the influence of Syd Barrett on Waters, he may never have created just insanely genius songs. Without Gilmour PF may have only been a 3 hit wonder.
@larry1594 Well I'm in the new generation (13 years old) and I know about it, but I do see your point. Besides the kids (mostly boys) in my grade that are into rock, no one even knows about half the music from the 70's and back )':
@larry1594 I think you're wrong my fellow..I'm 25 and I'm listening to Pink Floyd for a decade now..My 20 year old brothers loves PF.I have many friends here in Greece who likes PF and they are at the same age with me..I think the problem is in the teenagers mind! They can't see the difference of good music and useless music..I think their IQ is low I can't explain it differently..As the most people in the world right now..
@larry1594 In your country every generation ghettoizes itself, in everything, including music. One of the few good things here in Yurop (LOL) is that there's less generational ghettization. Juat my two cents.
