Yep. 2007 MC victory not one for the form analysts (I backed M'OR but didnt settle or finish off) but they have worked Efficient out pretty well, E can win again and his run in the MD Stakes 2008 was first-class.

Looks like he may be the one to beat again this year. They have figured this horse out....he hates being inside horses, loves Flemington and can stay all day. Provided he doesn't draw barrier 1 and get locked in, he's going to be hard to beat despite the incrase in weight.

i got the trifecta, at half unit , so it was only 715 bucks. but loved winning, first win at melb cup.

my second melbourne cup, will never forget it. i was standing right on the outside rail right on the finis post. i backed efficient, and its got me stuffed how everyone else wasnt on him--efficient is a proven stayer and was always going to last the distance with no doubts, which is more than can be said for many others in the race. having worked with racehorses for 10 years, i think the best is yet to come from him, he is still a bit gangly looking, and i think he has more filling out to do

How was he a "proven" stayer? He won the Derby a year before, thats no proof at all. Mahogany won the Derby by 5 lengths but was never a stayer.

Efficent ran poorly in the Turnbull Stk and had very ordinary form through the whole spring, if he was half the chance you claim he was, why did he start at 20/1? With the form he had, that was flattering too. Easy to say it all after the race isnt it?

I backed Efficient aswell. The fact that they had him in 'weight for ages' races in his prep meant that he couldn't get penalised in the weights. And, he happens to be terrible at weight for age. He was always prepped for the Melbourne Cup.

Dude there are over 200 horses that are nom for the cup and all of them are prepped for it too. Tawqueet ran in mostly WFA races too and he was trained for the cup but ran poorly and he's not a WFA horse either. Efficient was 20/1 and rightly so, because his form all spring was average at best. And if you look at all past winners in the last 20 years they have all had good form going into the race

i bet ten bucks on the nose for efficient and i won about $225. my dad had a mc party with about 30 pro punters there and no one bet on him but one of my dads mates won $200 on mahler each way. its funny cuz im only 12.

Thanks Efficient, u made a single mum's day!! What a race, my first mc & I was down at the fence as you trotted by! Got a pic 2 prove it! U were too quick in the race to see. I heard you were doing the best practices and stuck with you. I told a few people before the race but no one believed me!!

RIP, Bay Story, the horse who crashed in earlier race. U even tried to keep going! U were a fighter till the end! Claire Ellison, don't give up your cup winner will come soon!

That was some race. Efficient going from the back to the front, and Tungsten Strike going from first to last!!! OMG!!!

Efficient has got a really good run in it. I couldn't believe it's run in the Derby last year, but that was something else in the MC. It was something like 14-15 horses back at the beginning of the straight. Got some fresh air and didn't look back hey!
