You must remember, that belly dance is not a single thing. It is an amalgam from centuries of dance traditions from a large geographical area. To say we should "leave it alone" makes me worried because if we had "left it alone" we wouldn't have ATS or other amazing forms of belly dance that we do today! Belly dance, to many, is ignorantly viewed as something to "entice men" which is a complete fallacy...so, to them, in any form, Cab to ATS is for "men". We will never convince them. Just Dance!

I would like to say that I am a strong believer in "appropriate time and place" and Tribal Fest has always been a fantastic place to experiment, try new things, and push the boundaries of belly dance. We warned Chuck and Kajira what we were up to, they put us late in the show Friday night (with their blessing and enthusiasm) and as usual there was a disclaimer in the program that we were going to be a bit scandelous!

This is NO bellydance AT ALL!!!Dont say they dont dance well, but even though bellydance is a sensual one...this is too much.

I may get a lot of negative response to this comment, but this is just my personal opinion. I feel that since belly dancers are fighting so hard for our reputation as a legitimate art form, and struggling to gain the recognition that it deserves . . . i don't think burlesque and other nightclubby things should be blended with belly dance. I think it only reinforces the sterotypes that we already struggle with. :-/

I agree... I argue with a boy that likes me but he says i MUST leave bellydancing cause it is to arouse men, I think he's an idiot but in fact I think we need more performances to show how respectable is bellydance, to me is so weird to see nightclubbin in the concept of this kind of choreos, I mean I respect everything but.... Im not sure about it is apropiatted to the concept of this fest, anyway, they look beautiful, and I have to admit that dance is just for dancers.
