I'd heard about this song, but never heard it til now. Thanks for posting. It's an interesting song... just doesn't quite work. Can understand why it remained unreleased.
This is not one of Paul McCartney's best. I'm glad this was not featured in the movie "Seems Like Old Times," one of my all-time faves. This song has nothing to do with the movie.
@wilsondylanmccartney Love this...alas could we expect something like this from "SIR PAUL". Okay he's earned it, but I miss the old working class bloke Pauly seemed to be when his Linda was about. Thanks be to thee Beatleboybob
@steele917 I know what you mean. I miss that too. Seems like he's tried to invent a "new" him ever since Linda passed. And I think the quality of his songs has diminished greatly because of it.
@wilsondylanmccartney I can't disagree with you more about the reinvention - I've been a big fan all my life - and yet I think the last few albums have been solo career highs. I can't take Chaos and Creation, particularly, off my iPod. It seems more sincere than ever.
Probably one of Paul's best story songs. I've heard this and the piano version. I've read on another site that he offered this to the makers of the movie, "Seems Like Old Times." I can't believe they passed on it. The piano version is very poignant.
The three "GODs" of music are BACH MOZART and McCARTNEY its like "dogmatic" truth!!!

Wish he had put this on an album at the time he made it. It was the zeitgeist of the time and the world missed out. And so did I ! Big time.

The 2 piano demos are from the Summer of '78.
The Rude demo (recorded in Scotland) as heard here is from the Summer of '80.

I think this track earned its place on the cutting room floor. They can't all be great.
