I think 6 mph is tops the way that rake is spinning, gear drivin types have that problem with the Tubing where the teeth mount, breaking or cracking if you pull them over, but also pending on how rough the field is, bumpy field will cause the tubing to break or crack, I pull a NH216 double rake, but they are hydraulic drive, so i can pull them fast and not have to worry about rakes spinning too fast, but at the same time they dont clean as good with ground speed that fast. good job !
I've only raked twice (14 yeah I know I got in it late but don't own a farm) and the first time was on my neighbor's tt60a and it was nice quiet nice ride and today I raked on his Case 990 let me tell you it may have ridden a little rougher but seeing the smoke and that beautiful diesel sound that is the tractor for raking (for me atleast!)
Oh, I wish it only needed teeth! We replaced damn near every set of bearings in the thing (and believe me, there are a bunch). Rebuilt the gearbox, replaced a couple of u-couplings, tore apart and repainted the whole thing. It was a job. Pretty fun though.
when i first looked at this i thought it was an old 4520 and got all excited, then i got on and it was one of those japanese sounding cars. The new tractors don't really sound like tractors anymore

why did you need to rebuild this rake? it should only need teeth?

this rake works good what gear are you in and the rpm's?
brian93ist 1 year ago
I run about 6 or 7 mph when I'm raking, typically at about 1600 rpms. It's a hydrostatic tractor, so there is no gear to speak of.

@chetlenox my friend does 10mph with his 530 jd

damn a 4520 would pull the axles off that rake and judging from your screen you have or want one bigger than a 4520
