This Movie has a happy ending, too bad it wasn't that way in real life. Poor King George actually went mad again and died an old, insane and blind man *sigh*.
Anyway, Thanks For Posting :D I didn't think I would enjoy this movie as much as I did.
you know royal weddings became public events because of King George. While other european monarchs hid in their secluded palaces away from the public, King Goerge envisioned a monarchy living in the center of the city (which is the Buckingham Palace, the future house of Queen Victoria) surrounded by the people who he was anointed to reign over.
this great connection between the monarch and subjects is what makes the British monarchy unique and survive up to the present day... :)
@LawrenceOlaf It's not "God Save the King" - it's part of Handel's coronation anthem "Zadok the Priest" that happens to include the words God save the King - the full text is based on 1Kings 1:39 "Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, anointed Solomon King, and all the people rejoiced and said 'God save the King, long live the King, may the King live for ever. Allelujah. Amen".
Ok, I think the King (despite being as crazy as a shit-house rat) was overall a nice guy. Why then were his servants how were so kind to him treated so poorly when he recovered?
I guess for a modern movie it is rather nice, though the power of the English kings and queens over the English realm has as much declined as the art created about them! Just think of the deep fall between Henry IV for example and George III so no wonder that the king did get mad; or the English mistook him: He may have only pretended to be mad in order to have the English resume the war against the Americans like Solon did in Athens because of Salamis; plus the Shakespeare quotes are amicable.
@HalfBornUnicornFetus Indeed. America seems to be one of the only places that dislikes him. But honestly, the events that led to the Revolution were beyond his control. It was mainly the faults of Lord North and Parliament itself. As shown in this movie, George genuinely felt bad about losing America. And also many Americans at the time felt bad about losing George. He was a great man nonetheless
@OW3NS93 Yes, unfortunately, George III is remembered in a mostly-negative light in America because of the War for Independence. The King was merely a scapegoat for the grievances of those favouring independence in the colonies. The real target was Parliamentary sovereignty, but the King became the embodiment of British sovereignty in the American imagination.
has anyone else been experiencing trouble with these video's when watched in full screen? like the mouse not working and not being able to exit the full screen even with escape? it's not the first time this has happened and I'm just wandering what it could be?
Thank you so much for uploading. It was great to watch and it was brilliantly acted. King George III was and is my favourite monarch to have ever ruled.
The terrible thing is, this happy note that the film ends on, was not the end of it all. The king's illness returned later, driving him completely insane. He went blind and spent his last months locked in a cell for his own protection. His son became Prince Regent, and later King George IV.

"I love you" comes in all shapes and forms I guess. And "You're a good little woman, Mrs. King" was just that. Lovely.

"Be off with you sir, back to your sheep and your pigs."
Nigel Hawthorne is obviously brilliant in this but so was Ian Holm and the guy who played Pitt forget his name.

@j3parrots Julian Wadham. Personally, I like Pitt, though I'm liberal. His conservatism was actually pragmatism.

I didn't like that film. It didn't show Prinny becoming Prince Regent and marrying princess Caroline.

As a American, I must admit, I admire George the III. He was our monarch at one point....

You remember him, then?
William Rufus and King Stephen were crap though, weren't they- and the less said about George IV and Edward II, the better.
