  • WHAT WATER OR ... AIR?? IDI U PUT INTO THE ROCKET???

  • AWESOME

  • how do you make the fins?

  • @JeimuzuShige I just cut out some scrap plastic that I got off some packaging. I cut these with tabs that I folded out on alternate sides, and then just taped those onto the bottle.

  • PVC pipe is the most useful material in the world. With the rockets and guns you make with it you could start a whole new arms race!

  • @sweetom888 've got a few more PVC videos coming. Be sure to subscribe. I also have a rare non-PVC video coming next week.

  • pro that is cool as :)

  • lol! I watched this ten times over and still,I couldnt see the curviture of the Earth.

  • @thedoorsbiggestfan You have to look really closely. Actually, come to think of it, the curvature is backwards. Maybe that's just the wide angle effect of the camera lens. Oh well.

  • Loved the 'Thats sooo KOOL' comment by one of the kids =)

Though abt giving it a go myself, but, the thudd it makes... decided against it: Have to buy me a FULL BODY ARMOUR before trying it here in my Northern Pakistan neighborhood!!!

  • WOWWWWWW

  • do that in my neighborhood ppl will think its gunshots lol

  • you should be a mechanical engineer

  • i did this in school last year. Not the exact way but same concept with the bottle.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow dude ur great!!!

  • You're that father which all of the kids love.

  • @MrFlutty Now if I could just get them to clean their room.

  • wow i was in full screen @ 2:34 and it felt like i went high up and fell really bad

  • your neighbors must just love you

  • @PhotonTheta They tell me that regularly.

  • By my calculations, the rocket falled in 3 seconds from the higher point, so, with this, I think he was about 45 meters high

  • I did the tipped it sidewards and shot it into my friends ass Man was it sore

  • @generalwaffle1 What, the rocket?

  • @chuvak1 Yeah we were in a group and we did some dares

  • When aliens invade the earth this guy's gonna kill em all with a bottle and a pipe...

  • im supposed to be doing an english paper but im on here XD

  • Best father ever?

  • When i look closer, i can almost see curvature of your camera :)

  • i see... candas army is envolving

  • I would love to be your neighbor

  • @shikaz100 I know, right? I am a really good neighbor.

  • SPRINKLING!

  • You have a fearless camera.

  • @Avgvstino Well, the camera did get a bit broken, just the casing luckily. It still works just fine.

  • you just got urself another sub :D

  • i shot someone with one of these once...

    it was funny

  • your awesome buvak! your really clver! more tricks! do you know any magic tricks or anything? or any tricks on how i can cheat in an exam?

  • @999brayan I have a lot more videos in the works. I am just putting the finishing touches on my next video -coming Thursday. It explores one of the little-known, extremely flamable food items found in every kitchen. The video contain huge fire balls and of course it has a contraption made out of PVC. Make sure to subscribe so that you can be notified as soon as the video is up.

  • @chuvak1 What, flour? Awesome videos by the way! :)

  • BEST DAD EVER O.O

  • you are so awesome i made the marshmallow shooter and it works great

  • Dude - you rock!

  • nice overall instructions but what scuedual pvc pipe did you use. 40?

but like i said it is a very good video

  • awsome man w

  • cool as fuck dad

  • I am subscribing =)

  • It was Cameron, as they were peering out of the tower in Chicago, with their faces pressed up against the walls. Great movie!

  • O_O i see my old house

  • @wantstoScooter Or as Ferris Beuler said, or was it Cameron? - "I think I see my dad." Speaking of Ferris Beuler, there is a Ferris quote in one of my other videos. Does anyone know which one?

  • @chuvak1 straw horn video.

  • @NickBoiko That's right, and only 3 weeks to find it.

  • @wantstoScooter fureal?

  • I'm agree the Lil girl in the background...COOOL!

  • What did you use to fill the bottle with air? Is it a barrel of compressed air?

  • its like willy wonka glass elevator =D

  • I agree wit the girl: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY

  • now i know where you live

  • @msnkhj13 I just went went to that neighborhood, because I thought it looked nice.

  • @chuvak1 i was kidding lol

    i live in saudi arabia

  • nice man

  • u can kill someone :D

  • greatest father ever :D

  • dude!! this is AWESOME!!!

  • whuuu

    springbrake!!!

  • On 1/1/2008 uploaded 2011 ^^ nice Vid :D

  • 2:31 is when the camera is on the bottle

  • omg i feel happy for his doughter for having such a cool dad and sorry for his neighbours for obvious reasons

  • omg i love ur vids!!! how do u figure out this stuff?

  • haha he said O-RING!

  • you and kipkay should do something together..

  • lol nice

  • what do you do for a living your loaded

  • @HIGHandFLYandRYE I am a youtube celebrity, and I make some shoes on the side.

  • wat happened to the camera at the start?!?!

  • @handyx5 What do you mean?

  • when the little girl first screamed. at first i was like wat the hell is tht??

  • you need to figure out if you enter the stratosphere with your rocket.

  • you should of put string or somthing on the bottles, to see how high it went

  • @AFLYINGCAMELNUN They also make simple altimeters that record teh higest altitude. Still, I think the video footage gives a pretty good idea.

  • now to go outside yelling

    ALLAH FOR EVER

    and shooting it at someone

  • next step: fill that bottle with gunpowder

  • @TheyWantToKillMe Or nitro glycerin?

  • @chuvak1

lol nitro glycerin is preety hard to get...

  • @TheyWantToKillMe But not so hard to make.

  • @chuvak1

    ok so.... make a tutorial!

oh, and nitroglycerin will blow in the moment the rocket lunched

  • @TheyWantToKillMe I'll add that to my list.

  • Please keep putting up videos, and also could you please tell me what's up with marshmallow gun, what switch? How do you keep marshmellows from jamming? How do you create pressure?

  • @northpaw2000 Thanks. Please subscribe so that you will know right away when I put up a new video. I have 3 videos currently in production.

For the marshmallow gun, the switch is what turns the laser on. The marshmallows are loaded one at a time, so they don't jam. the pressure is just your own lung-powered air pressure.

  • @chuvak1 Thank you!

  • LOL @ the little girl. I want a shirt that says "SPRINKLEY".

  • wery wery cool i think ill do it by my self too! nice

  • Great video!

It looked really nice when the rocket went with the camcorder tooo!

  • Wow. It's the first time I see a video with over 20,000 views and that has no dislikes.

  • @CloudStrafeff7 Cool project, clear instruction, aerial footage, big bangs, cameo appearance from a cute little girl - what's not to like?

  • @chuvak1 the reason this video has 1 dislike is because there's no cat flushing toilet!

  • @themaster795130 Its always something like that, isn't it.

  • @chuvak1 yes

  • @CloudStrafeff7 you idiot there is one dislike now.

  • @hexmeohdear I knew that was going to happen.

  • @CloudStrafeff7 has one,not mine..

  • the little girl is cute

  • @claudiosardinha1997 Take a look at my Ballistic Dentistry video to see he getting her tooth shot out with a potato cannon.

  • I love how it sounds like a gun.

  • @aaqucnaona94 There is something nice about any project that produces a loud bang.

  • 2:39 O.O he killed her daughter

  • You tried that in the UK and you would be arrested, or at the least summoned to appear in Court!. Interesting though, absolutely..

    Bravo.

  • Amazing!

Could you maybe add a parachute?

  • @gettingwarmer Yes, some people add a nose cone that falls off and releases a parachute when the rocket gets to the to maximum height and then tips over.

I am toying with the idea of a remote controlled parchute ejector for a differnt project.

  • 150 psi is really pushing the limits of the bottle

    they burst at 165 psi

  • @hutadut I agree. Placing the filling valve further from the launch pad would have been better.

I also stopped using bottles after they got some creases from impacting the ground. I figure that can't be good for structural integrity.

  • have you ever tried to put 4 fins on the bottle ? I had this project since I was in High School. Everybody put 3 fins but I like to put 4 fins. 4 fins help the bottle to land smoother.

  • @Tibly At the end of the video, I put fins on and the rocket went 10x as high. That is what you see with the aerial shots.

  • Hmmmm. I wonder what effect the addition of mentos and soda would have. Is there a way to time it to get even more of a boost? Would probably be quite a bit messier, tho. ;-)

  • @eddiequest4 I think the compressed air and watter has significantly more power than mentos and soda.

  • Very nice summary of the launcher construction.

  • Nice house.

  • @qwertqwe Thanks's it's my neighbor's.

  • @chuvak1 mm, All of the houses in the neighborhood are nice.

  • INSANE!

  • When PVC fails under pressure it shatters into shards of shrapnel. Using PVC under pressure is incredibly dangeorus and you are putting your self and those kis at risk of serious injury.

    Otherwise cool project!

  • @ThelemicPotter Thank you for your concern. I think that reasonable precautions were taken, including using PVC pipe rated to 400 PSI and keeping the kids back until after the rocket launched. Participating in this activity is probably more dangerous than staying home, but I feel the risk is small enough.

  • The kid is right. That is so cool.

  • "One of the funest projects I've done" The grammar nazi inside me is screaming right now.

  • @YdOuUmRb Grammar Nazis are not the funnest.

  • This looks like the neighbor from hell to me.

  • @jpozenel My neighbors love me. Really.

  • Comment removed

  • @jpozenel You sound like a looser no one would want to live around. When was the last time you did anything cool?

  • am I the only one worrying about the camcorder? it fell down pretty hard...

  • @yamahatyros2 Not to worry. The camcorder suffered only very minor damge - maybe more from being compressed against the pressurizing bottle than impact with the ground. It was totally worth the shot.

  • I've built a similar launcher, only instead of an o-ring I used a flame to soften the PVC and create a bump in the pipe. The retention clip holds the bottle down firmly and we've seen heights well over 200 feet without fins. My wife uses it for her sixth-grade science class. For safety reasons they stop at 60 psi, but I've used it up to 120.

  • very nice! keep up the good work.

  • Filing a groove in schedule 40 pvc, and then pressurizing it to 150 psi is a really bad idea, especially without safety glasses on. If pvc blows, it shatters and sends shrapnel all over the place. At the very least you should use schedule 80, wear glasses, and keep your kids at a safe distance.

  • @djohnson16mindspring You bring up a good point, however I wonder what the effect of the pipe failing at the notch would be. The pressure around the notch is opposed by the neck of the bottle. If the pipe failed, I think the only direction it would go is upward. With that said, I was always a little scared of the bottle exploding in mt face. Whenever I pressurized the rig, I turned away, firuring that shrapnel in the back of my head was better than in my face.

  • @djohnson16mindspring If I were to do it again, I think I would build the presurizing valve further from the rocket. I would also use a thinnner o-ring, so that I would not have to remove so much material to make the notch.

Schedule 80 pipe is not a bad idea. If you notice, the pipe (mine was schedule 40) is a little too flexible. I had to put a cinder block on the base of the launcer and still, the upright would flex a lot when I yanked the pin.

  • @chuvak1 Google "water rocket cable tie release" to see an easy-to-build release that doesn't require that hard sideways yank. This release was first developed by Ian Clark in the late 90s, and has become the most commonly used since.

Note that the pop bottles, when they burst, do not blow shrapnel around (although they can blow out your ears if you're close enough). PVC, though, shatters into small sharp fragments. Be aware, be safe, have fun.

  • Amazing series of launches :)

  • @disappearences Thanks. I know others have made similar videos, but most of those spend most of the time pumping up the rocket with a hand pump.

  • That's brilliant!

  • i would act just like that little girl if i was his neighbor lol

  • @missdexterity I filmed the launches over several days as I figured out how to get the aerial video (the camera kept turning off as I pressurided the rocket). Anyway, on all occasions many people stopped to watch, including the neighbor whose house the rocket kept landing on. Also, many cars would stop and watch, then give me the thumbs up sign. Everybody loves watching rockets.

  • Wow. Your rocket goes super high. I made the same one, but I could only pump it up to about 80 psi before the O-ring failed :- )

  • @Data643 The seal between 1/2 inch pipe and the bottle nexk is fairly tight. I wonder if it would work just as well to use a layer of electricians tape instead of the o-ring. That would obviously be easier to make and I'll bet it would make a good seal.

  • GR8 and fun for the Kids!

    :-)

  • How was the camera mounted (in addition to the EVA foam)? and did you have to counterbalance it with anything?

Otherwise, cool stuff. Kids must have loved it, neighbours not-so-much?

  • @gaijintendo I taped the camera onto the side of bottle, then taped the layer of EVA foam over the camera. I also weighed the camera and added an equal weight of coins on the side of the bottle oposite the camera. Without fins, the bottle floats down fairly slowly. With fins, it comes down really fast, but alsways on the nose.

The kids did love it as so did the neighbors. The only one that had any problem with it was, my 1 year old son, who apprently does not like loud moises.

  • Awesomely cool!!

  • Aerial shot was amazing!

  • @songstowearpantsto It took a long time to get that. I launched the camera several times, then took it in to download only to find out that the off button was pressed every time as the bottle inflated. So I cut bigger holes around the buttons in the foam protecting the camera. Several more launches - same problem. Opened the camera, removed the rubber bottons, reassembled the case, used a paperclip to activate - same problem. Decided to inflate first, then activate camera - success finally

  • vc e pika!!!

  • Fantastic! I'd love to see it deploy a parachute.

  • This is kind of awesome.

  • What kind of camera survives that?

  • @vocko1 Cell phone camera wrapped in EVA foam. It survived, but not completely unscathed.

  • did u get this from make magazine

  • @kaescede I did see it in make magazine and did take some of their ideas and modified them, but I had also made one of these about 20 years ago. As someone else said, this is not a new idea.

  • Awesome stuff, would love to be half as creative as you.

  • @MikeCooky well now you can go make your own water rocket and all your friends will think you are creative.

  • @MikeCooky

Lol, how is that creative..? This has been made thousands of times before, it's not like he invented this.. :P

  • is it possible for you to attach a parachute mechanism to the rocket for maximum hang time and a better camera view?

  • @jesse9782 Yes, I have seen some designs for parachutes, but none that I really like. I was having too much fun shooting the rocket off to stop and make a parachute. I will be trying out some other ideas later, so I may include a parchute then.

  • fantastic master braini :D

    awesome.

  • This thing looks quite dangerous. lol

  • @navarchix I am sure it could be.

  • awesome!! Если вы Русский, то по анлгийски говорите без акцента - классно! And awesome rocket btw.

  • @TheF0rtress Net, ya Amerikanets, no ya zhil 2 goda v Saratove. K sozheleniyu, ya govaryu poruskii s aktsentom.

  • @chuvak1 vse ravno, molodets, Russkiy ochen xorosho znaesh!!

  • Haha dude i did this today at school for my science project. How long did urs stay in the air?

  • @UndertakerDeadaman About 10 seconds was the longest. That is with fins - straight up and straight down. Some of the bottles without fins kind of float slowly back down
