Hi this is just a comment on ure nest boxes from experience on my part. The board uve put across the front of the nest boxes is not a good idea. The chickens will sleep there and when they sleep the deficate so the edge of ure nest boxes will fill with chicken poop. Just thought id let u know. I took them off and made sure there plenty of hay so the eggs dont fall out.... Thanx for reading dave
@BLOODYCLQ I actually have a hen that is setting in one of the bottom nest boxes right now. I have seen chickens setting in the attic of a house once. They will hatch out and care for babies anywhere. I have built three chicken tractors with nest boxes to use for brooding, but as of yet have never used them for anything but seperating injured chickens from the crowd.
You suspend the feeders-waterers above the floor for two reasons: To keep rodents out (actually, grown chickens will eat mice that get in), and to keep the chickens from kicking junk into the waterers. Hang them high enough so the hens can just reach and no lower.
My dad has a chicken house almost EXACLY like this. Only difference is his nest boxes are a bit bigger.... there are only 3 boxes, and his has a swingingdoor on the top so he can grab the eggs. And his doesnt have a window but when summer comes he has this cut out square hole thing and he puts a fan in it so his chickens stay cool. only thing about chicken houses is you have to REALLY make sure its closed up good esspecially at night cuz of raccoons...I like the design! liike it lol
@TreeTrappin I hear that bird all the time and a man on a birding walk with me pointed it out once and told me what it was but he told me the names of a bunch of them that day. I don't know what it is. I just asked Momma who I though knew the calls of all the birds, but even she doesn't know.

@Rugger0430 I'm thinking about building one of these out in the forest where I live. The lumber yard still has 2 pallets of the cedar planks left over from before hurricane Katrina. The man that owns the lumber yard is letting me buy these for a dollar a piece. I love my chickens and chicken house more than all of the other material possesions that I have owned over my lifetime.
@TheAudreylholt Thank you. I have no regrets. I spend hours watching the flock going in and out of there every day. Been checking the nest boxes every day for breakfast. Haven't found any yet.
Very nice.... You are spoiling them

@TreeTrappin It's a Cardinal or my dad called them a Redbird. They do have a pretty song.
