I had this 12" single back then -- I had to buy the import, a few months before the US version came out. And then the US version came out, and I was appalled by what had been done to the song. I like this version far better -- it's more haunting.
I first heard the UK version on Seattle radio station KJET in the summer of 85. I believe it was also on the soundtrack of the Jamie Lee Curtis movie Perfect, and that was the version that KJET was playing. The US version came out that fall.
This is by far the best version of this song! Before Niles Rodgers destroyed it. It's far more elegant and sincere than the US version and the harsh guitar solo slammed into the middle. Thank you for posting this!
My favourite Thompson Twins song. As I recall, there were "British" (or "European"), and "North American" versions of the song, with the latter featuring gospelly vocals that I didn't care for (although I might like such things in other songs). But the British version wasn't available in North America. A marketing blunder to be sure ...
Is this on cd anywhere???? HELP I must have a copy of this please

I still have this 12" - it was certainly the best version of the song and was released around Christmas I seem to recall.

I remember hearing this version at a new york subway in 86. I was skipping .. I loved this edit when I heard Tom recovered from his exhaustion.

Yes it is.
It has been released on "the greates hits" in 2003 by Camden Records.
Only this song is included as a 12" version, but lacks the 7" version
