I didn't think it could work on the piano, but it is much better than I expected. Thanks for sharing. It just goes to show great music is outside any particular instrument. And you played it well, which helps!
Thank you. I enjoyed both the Alkan and the Tausig. VERY musical performances. However the piano/recording for the Tausig does not do you justice. This sound is better. I have considered playing this piece - but which? It would be interesting to hear which version you think is better and why. How about a posting with you explaining and demonstrating? But thanks for a really musical experience.
Beethoven Cavatina Beethoven's Opus 130 String Quartet. I found this on the classic archives web site.
Youtube won't let you post a URL for a web site so you have to do a google search, if you find the classic archives web site do a search on Beethoven. Then scroll down the page until you see String Quartet No.13 in Bd, Op. 130. Below that look for number 5. Cavatina (Adagio molto espressivo).
If you want to download anything you can join the site FREE if you provide some information.
Again, thanks for sharing. You do play a little held back, but it fits the piece. You need to open yourself up emotionally, make a few tears form up! Thank you once again.
A nice performance and it's great to see this thriling but lesser-known LvB movement (well, it doesn't seem to make his "greatest hits" collections) in a few Youtube files. Only one suggestion.... let yourself go!
Competently played, but where is the restrained passion in the opening section, and where is the halting, stammering quality that Beethoven intended in the Beklemmt passage? This is probably the most moving piece that Beethoven ever wrote, and the performance doesn't convey that for me.
There is something very...British about this interpretation. You should record it .again and just let it all hang out. This is Beethoven, baby.

Transcription of Cavatina from Beethoven Op. 130
String Quartet in B Flat #13, in its original key of E-flat, a good transcription and performed well, thank you.

Great to hear a less wellknown piece by Alkan!

Thanks for posting. Is there an edition of transcriptions by Alkan? Apparently he also transcribed some Mozart and Haydn.
