The lever on the back of the gun is an ambidextrous safety lever. Not sure about the grips, the only suggestion I could give would be to superglue them on.
No, it is not a real gun. It is made to look and function much like a live firing one, but is manufactured to fire blanks only. The barrel is blocked, and live ammo should not fit into the magazine or chamber.

There is no way unless you drill out the barrel, and modify the magazine, though you will be risking blowing your hand off.

They work almost exactly like a live firing semi-auto pistol- except that the barrel is plugged and the spent gas vents through the top.
