I remember when Jack Benny died...NBC interrupted the Tonight Show on the west coast to announce it. The world got a little sadder when Jack Benny died.
Benny had such a talent , He had delivery that was out standing. He had a great wit. i love when he says something funny and he always looks to his right. FUNNY FUNNY MAN naturally funny. lol
Hey DickVain: Benny was born on February 14, 1894 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in neighboring Waukegan, Illinois. He was the son of Meyer Kubelsky and Emma Sachs Kubelsky. Meyer was a Jewish saloonkeeper, later to become a haberdasher, who had emigrated to America from Poland. Emma had emigrated from Lithuania.
It's funny that Jack mentions a rabbi I always thought he was Jewish but I just watched an interview with Jack and Phil Silvers and Phil calls him a gentile?
@DickVain41 Jack Benny is 100% Jewish, and well known as such throughout the entertainment and Jewish communities. When you saw Phil Silvers call Jack a gentile, Silvers was obviously joking.
Well, Mo(e) is a common Jewish name. Hence the Jewish Indian Mo Hawk. Obviously Jack was referring to the use of the Tomahawk for circumcision--because Jewish law insists on circumcision--and very wise that is.
Dave Cavett is a lousy straight man. I agree with the person below. Too much Dick..too little Benny because of Cavett. Anyway ..love to see Jack do his thing.
Dick just loved the sound of his own voice and did NOT KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP. He could have stayed in the business except his EGO got in the way. Jack Benny's interview became a DUD .. thanks to Dick Cavett.
Huh? Are we watching the same video clip? Dick Cavett did a minimum amount of talking and he basically let Jack Benny have the floor to say whatever he wanted. And by the way, the interview was anything but a dud. Jack Benny was very funny and self-depreciating as he always was.
you couldn't be more wrong. i would give anything if he were back on television today. even these old interviews with the gods of 20th century entertainment. great, great, great interviewer.
Dick Cavett had the BEST guests, and he did the WORST interviews. Jack could have told so much about his life - since he rarely gave interviews. Dick blew it again. Thanks for posting - it was great to see Jack regardless!
6:30...EPIC change in talk show topic XD

I think Cavett seems legitimately embarrassed, which is awesome.

Jack was born in Chicago, but Waukegan sounds better for kidding around in routines. And yes, Dick Cavett is as funny as a hernia.
