Supposedly he is alive and the current king tries to save his old friend which is panthro but it was all a trick it was mamra all the time...So yes he's basically dead. James Rolfe (AKA the video game nerd) sent me here. He said that he has a positive reaction to this new series. I personally think it will kick ass, especially since this new thundercats series is gonna have a more serious tone. The animation looks badass as well.
A remake and the characters don't look childish. It actually looks like they took some pride into this, awesome. Mostly when they remake a cartoon, they make the characters look more like a little kids cartoon and lacking detail.
@ryukthekid They did make the characters younger, just not as little kids. I was kinda iffy on this new incarnation, especially since the old Thundercats cartoon, while being a classic, didn't really age all too well. But after this premiere, I have to say that I'm really impressed. The characters are smart, the animation is amazing for a Western show, and I like how they addressed the racism found in the old show.
Mumra scared the fuck out of me as a kid. I always thought he was the biggest bad ass in cartoons, more so than Skeletor, Cobra Commander, etc. Echoing what others have said, I hope they do him justice.

Tygra being his adoptive brother actually gives a reason for him being next in line for Lord of the Thundercats (which seems kind of arbitrary in the original...Panthro would probably be the better choice anyway). -to be continued...-
Every change they make has a specific point. Thundera being a city state on Third Earth allows for Third-Earthlings to have a stronger connection to them, and for non-mutant villains to have a better reason to fight them. Specifically, a mural in one trailer implies Mumm-ra will have some history with them. Thundercats was always a show that had amazing ideas, but, sadly, not that great of a story. As someone who grew up watching the original show, I approve of every change so far.

Plot and sub-style I can't accuse them of copying anything, I believe in free expression of art and many things can be taken from all over the word artists influence each other all the time, still doesn't make my other points invalid does it?

@robingurl No, are you. but it didn't have an anime look to it. Proving the anime an be done and not look like anime. The original was more detailed in it's drawings but now everything is grey and not as defined. Even color is not all that colorful. It's like looking at the original Macross series and this comparing it to the Robotech Macross series where the robots, ships, and characters are clearer and more defined. Story wise it might be good but the new look stinks.

The original was more detailed in it's drawings but now everything is grey and not as defined. Even color is not all that colorful. It's like looking at the original Macross series and this comparing it to the Robotech Macross series where the robots, ships, and characters are clearer and more defined. Story wise it might be good but the new look stinks.

@phreshfire It may be anime but it didn't look like the classic looking type of anime that you traditionally see like Dragball Z, or even Speedracer which was anime from the 70's.

@dustingdustin You DO know the original was basically anime too, right? Watch the credits, tell me what kind of names you see in the animation department. What's that? Oh right, they're all Japanese. Look at most televised anime from the same time period, and you've got the same general look as ThunderCats.

@lostdrewid it's not a matter of them being japanese, it just looks and sounds like most modern anime. The overdone voice work, the character design. I honestly couldn't tell you why or how, but it bugs the shit out of me. It's like...cutesy or trying to be extreme or something. I can't really put my finger on it. And Japanese names? If you look at the names of ANY animated show, ever, you'll pretty much get mostly japanese names.

@lostdrewid people dont realize the original thundercats was anime, though it was 80's anime, which in my opinion was the top tier anime, before anime turned all super cutesy. i should say before super cutesy anime took over all anime.
