  • It would suck big time to realize five seconds before touchdown that a gear wont come down. "Atlantis going around... oh right.. shit.."

  • brilliant, I wish I could witness in person

  • i wanna be aa astronaut ]:

  • @sccooottttt but be carefull not to lose your camera or toolbag

  • What was that heat comming from between the fuselage and the tail

  • APU exhaust. The APUs are providing the hydraulic power to move the flight surfaces and gimbal the main engines at liftoff.

  • Understood. Where did you get that info. Did they release the Specs online?

  • wow

  • what a waste of money and time?

it was money and time spent to discover america, that was worth it.space exploration is too or we wouldnt be doing it.just the thought of knowing mankind is intelligent enough to leave this planet says alot!

  • i cant watch this video

lovin this video!! leave me a comment dY

  • I never get bored of watching the shuttle landings, it's such a shame uk news doesn't cover this stuff very often, it's still mind blowing to me. thanks for the upload :-)

  • @evilednaface you think this is cool look for when the put the shuttle on top of a 747 to fly it back to flordia.

  • Great landing. For all those space skeptics complaining about $'s spent, I'd suggest they learn what part of their lives have something to do with things that were invented for or created during & after space explorations. They may be surprised if they took a moment to look it up, how all of our lives are affected.

  • awesome, but we need to move on to a new ECONOMIZED propulsion system, the science is there, funding lacks..

  • I really hate YouTube advertising. It's so stinking ANNOYING!!! Anywho, great landing!

  • billion dollar space mission to fix the toilet.

  • What a waste of money!

  • HOT! how long is the runway?

  • This thing is so old and yet, still so damn cool.

  • Awesome. I heard that shit come in today. I live very close to the landing area.

  • I'm not a pilot, but I do find it interesting that this thing glides without flaps. There is a split rudder for air braking, but no flaps to change the shapes of the wings to reduce the stall speed. In fact, a quick look at wikipedia suggests that the shuttle lands around 33% faster than your typical airliner. The venting at the end of the runway is hydrazine, which is used for attitude control.

  • I saw this on nASA haw haw

  • Great video -- I used it in a blog post in which I also included an MP3 of the double sonic booms I recorded, along with a special music track my father-in-law, a pianist, created using the booms as a looping drumbeat in the background.

  • Absolutely excellent stuff from NASA. seka1986, yes shuttles have done night-time landings.

  • Thank god they made it back safely.

  • ha, i just watched this today! so fast how they got it uploaded

  • Three cheers for the red white and blue!

  • is that a flame right before the tail wing or just heat comeing off??

  • it is relecing the heat in the paylode bay

  • ok thanks

  • Is he pullen a wheely? lol nice!

  • It blows me a away that such a big bird is able to enter the atmosphere at such great speeds without disintigrating.

    Ceramic Tiles FTW!!!

  • nice footage.

  • I really hate advertising on YouTube. Nice landing, by the way.

  • Hey. .are those Michelin or Bridgestone tires???

  • californa? by the time it gets back to florida its gonna have rainbows painted on it

  • I wish they would do a night landing at Edwards.

  • Does the shuttle ever land at night?

  • yup

  • No, I don't think so.

  • my hole house was shaking i thought it was an earthquake really loud too

  • 10th

  • that must have been weird to have to land in california...

  • That was amazing.

  • I was going to argue the point but decided your not worth the time. Thumbs down.

  • That's just my own personal belief. I'm not trying to pursuade you either way... haha.

  • you're correct. you are a weird conspiracy person.

  • haha.. at least I admit it :)

  • fyi it'll cost 1 million to transport the endeavour to florida.

  • there was a huge boom we thought something had hit our condo!

  • For some reason I heard rumors that if you live within 20 miles of landing sight, you would hear a boom?

    I didn't hear anything.

  • There was a big double boom here in Santa Monica, Ca and that's how I knew the shuttle landed in California.

  • NASA kicks serious ass

  • second!!!!!!!
