Playing this song right now in my high school band. Such an amazing piece of music! We're trying to get either a pyro cannon or live firing party for it. Gonna be intense!
@AppleGuru1000 And also that it's a piece that celebrates Russia's defeat of Napolean. A victory song is a victory song nevertheless and it is a great composition that I don't mind using to celebrate our country's Independence.
I saw this live played by the Air Force Academy Band and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic on the 4th of July at Falcon Stadium. True Patriotism with the Freshman USAFA Cadets
@FiddlerAdam sometimes i just feel like being a dick. i know the piece well. i played idk how many times in high school because it was a tradition for our pops concert every year. sorry i offended you. even though this wasn't even directed at you...
this is really beautiful and moving music...so many highs and lows and twists to the themes...love hearing it every year despite it having nothing to do with the 4th of July!
i like how americans like this song so much and always associate it with the 4th of july alot. even thought it is a Russian song with a part of the imperial russian anthem in the last crescendo (god save the tsar).
They used to ring all the bells in Boston at the precise time it calls for in the score (where the percussionist is playing the tubular bells). The persons playing the church bells were connected via phone and a live feed on tv so they could play in time. Between the bells and the cannons, it was awesome! Very moving.
How curious is that a RUSSIAN song is used for the celebrations of USA´s independence celebrations, only the power of music can do that, I wonder if that happened during Cold War.

I remember when A & E did the broadcast.....got to see 1812 then...it was the highlight of the show, and, IMHO a much better production all around than what was on CBS
@imissbristol Jump on over to july4th.org to let them know. They are also on Facebook. They are looking for feedback, and a lot of people have said the same thing. I agree. If I couldn't see the 1812, I'd be so bummed! They broadcast that locally, but not nationally. :-(
@imissbristol CBS used to show the whole thing at the end of the pops show but like all else money dictates and they must sell commercial time!! BOOOOO!!
@imissbristol I agree that the whole concert needs to be shown like it use to back in the day when A&E use to show it and one or two of the local channels. Boston Pops beats the pants off any Capitol Forth celebration.
I totally agree...In fact, why can't they cover the entire shoe...like some other station used to do? I would actually pay for it id they put it on Pay Per View. I love this and wish i could be there for the whole show. It's on my bucket list. We used to have a live canon here when our local symphony performed an outdoor concert on the weekend before the 4th, but they did away with the live canon for reasons unknown. I miss it...
@titaniclady1 They make it pretty easy to be there, and it is possible. Just ask the 800k people who they said were there Sunday! Once you go though, you'll want to go every year. That's just the way it is. :-)

its kind of ironic that people put this song in 4th of july firework shows when its composition is by a Russian (tchiakovsky).... Thumbs if you agree

Either the camera doesn't pick up low frequency sounds or those are the crappiest cannons I've ever heard in my life.

I preferred it on A & E Network... 2 hours, no commercials and the whole song played out, with cannon

Its not a Russian SONG, it has no words..............Its one of the Worlds Greatest Musical Works, which just happened to be written by a Russian

It's funny how every one of those little screens in the crowd is a camera recording an alternate version of the video I'm watching.

CBS should show this whole song instead of opening every 4th of July show with the last ten seconds of this.
