  • thank you for this great and easy to follow tutorial!!! :) I am also making them for charity and you made it so easy to learn! finished one in under an hour and I am confident to make many more! thanks again!

  • you live in Canada

  • Thank you so much for this video! I was frustrated to tears because I could not figure out the instructions to my new knitting looms. And it is so easy!

  • Canadians Rock!!!!!!!!

  • HI!

I watched this video and just think of how easy is, but the best thing ever is that you are a great teacher, and now thanks to you i want to learn, just don't know where to buy the materials, i am in Toronto(Canada).Thank you for ur videos.

  • @Goldensoul70 you may want to google craft and yarn stores in your area they will have everything you need there.....cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)

  • HI

I was wondering what you mean it creates a nasty scene if you dont stop the peg before each time verses going all the way and end the round right before the peg you started on?

  • @CandyCanecls1 he is saying that because there will be an ugly seam up the back of the hat and stopping at the peg before each time helps make the seem look better......cathy@mikeys helpdesk

  • Hello, after i saw ur vids it intrigued me to see how easy it is to create something.. now i have a question.. is it possible to inclued little pearls during "knitting"? and if so how to manage it. Thanks in advance.

  • ur from canada? me too

  • Hi

I watched this video month ago now back to making hats I did a bobo will this hurt when I got to the time to make the brim brung the bottom loops up and over buried the lose yarn then brung the botton loop on the loom over the brim loops I just bruung up to make brim instead doing one more time all the way around then taking the middle row over the top and then the bottom over the top to make one row? Did 5 hats this was

  • i've made a few hats but the hat has big gaps, how do u make it tighter together?

  • @ariescutie76 to make your hats less holey....try using two strands of yarn instead of one if using a 4ply yarn or a thicker yarn like a 5-6 ply..... I think that will give you the tighter, less holey look your looking for.....cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)

  • thank you so much! i made an amazing hat on my first try with your help!

  • Omg you do this so easily! haha, the yarn gets too tight for me that i cant pull it over :(

  • OK! I am left-handed. So I need to do the opposite of what you are doing? Do you know if it is easy for a lefty to do it right handed? These will be great to donate to the childrens hospital!

  • @viennadawn Hello.... Mikey is right handed and is wrapping counter clock wise if you are left handed he suggests that it might be easier for you to wrap clockwise....everything else would be the same....hope that helps....Merry Christmas... Cathy@ Mikeys helpdesk :)

  • Amazing video...nice and simple teaching for fast learning. Thanks a bunch.

  • how would you make a pom pom or whatever on top of the hat?

  • OOOH WOW I see a professionaly nlook brim. Got looms but didn't work with them much. Will be starting in the new year. Thanks for posting. I'm learning a lot! :-D

  • Thanks so much. I was having problems trying to start off and finish and you answered my questions! How many rows do you usually use on an adult hat and how many for the rim as well?

  • @ChuckSecret2007 No it would not work. There are different sized looms you can work with according to size. The purple loom is for adults, you can pick it up at a local craft store.

  • Hi Mikey I just want to say thank you I watched you tut and i made my first hat but my baby girl's head was a bit bigger than i thought so now that i now how to make the hat i will try again thank you so much oxoxox

  • So this is for a baby right, i want to make one for me (adult) so if for the baby size you do the 6 points and then 15, how would that change for an adult size hat??? please?

  • You are an inspiration!

  • thank you, thank you, thank you soooo... thorough!!!

  • How many rows would you recommend if I were making an adult hat. Guesstimating is kind of tough.

  • do twist while we wrap?

  • I purchased a loom kit yesterday and finished my first hat today thanks to your video tutorial. Thanks much for teaching us how to make hats. Now I can make hats that fit my style. WooHoo!

  • I've made my fist loop knitting hat with your video thank you very much!!! your videos rocks..

  • How many lines would you recommend for an adult hat?

  • Wow your instruction was great and helpful, I just finish my adult hat thanks!

    pjorosz@yahoo.com

  • wow, wow, wow..thanks, thanks. thanks...i just made a gorgeous hat, just following your instruction. You rock.....I am very happy it is my first knitting project...love you.....

  • will this fit a newborn?

  • @dashorty808 this is for a preemie it may fit a small sz newborn for a bit but your best bet is to go with the next sz up loom for a newborn baby hat cathy@mikeys helpdesk :)

  • @mikeyssmail ahhhhhhhhhhh okay :-) should i go with an 24 peg?

  • @dashorty808 mikey also has some baby hat tutorials for the loom on youtube too just so you know.....enjoy!!! :)

  • @mikeyssmail i have been reviewing everything under baby's hat and i only seen crocheting and im doing the hat on a round loom. i would just use the next size up from the 24 peg?

  • not wrong but,are you gay or so because you d like a girl!?but seriously your video's are sooooooo cool!!

  • Thank you just made a hat and it looked so nice.. Just followed your video.. : D

  • When closing off the crown of the hat,you mentioned leaving about 18inches of yarn. Does the length of yarn needed, vary when making larger hats for adults as apposed to baby hats?

  • @wyzkrax you might want to leave a litlle more for a bigger hat so yu have enough to close the gap..... cathy@mikeys helpdesk...:)

  • You're awesome, I love all your loom videos! Thank you for all of this time you spent for us!!!!

  • You did an awesome job, I've already made 2 hats now for my 3month old daughter! Thanks so much...I'm showing my friends your video tonight, it's our new project!

  • how cute, i wanna do this now!!!! THANKS!!!

  • Just made my first hat. Wanted to say thanks!! It is cute!!! lol

  • Awesome video!!! Way excited to try this Thanks

  • wow im wanting to learn this and you just made it so easy looking im going out this weekend to buy some things to get started. what should i buy? i love your videos you explain them so simple thank you so much.

  • why when I make my brim it folds my hat in half??!!

  • Wow it was my first time using this and I actually made a hat thank you

  • This was just what I needed! I have a project (Emma and Hannah's Gift on Facebook) to honor my daughter's in heaven. I have crocheted hats, blankets and booties and was looking for something new. This was so easy to follow! Thank you!!!!!!

  • Mikey, I like your tutorials but end up getting frustrated with so many of them. Thankfully, this one is complete, and great! But your others that are 70 plus videos ranging from 3 minutes down to 30 seconds ... whats up with that?? It's very difficult to find all the numbers associated with a project when there are so many. Thank you for making this one tutorial!

  • Thank you mikey! You did an awesome tutorial on the baby hats. I am doing a humanitarian project for "Period of Purple Crying Caps" for the month of November to creat awareness of shaken babies. We are trying to make tons of purple newborn caps. This is great for people that do not crochet or knit. Awesome.

  • thank you man your the only guy that dose the full thing very well done thanks man

  • i made this hat using only 1 strand (left handed beginner - didnt expect it to turn out first time). followed everything exactly except i used my left hand with the needle to pull over) great until it came time to finish off and take it off the loom with the needle. when i did it the loops didnt end up like mikeys. i tried going in the opposite direction also and this cured it a little bit and i was able to fix a botched job, but is using only 1 strand the culprit for this little fiasco??

  • everytime i have use my loom (same ones you have) the spacing is always wide giving it a very open appearence does using 2 strands together prevent this when using regular (weighted) yarn, the open appearence made me stray from the loom, would love to try the loom again

  • @duckyduck09 Yes....using two strands does fill in the gaps!!!! sometimes a thicker yarn like 5 or 6 ply fills in the gaps with only one strand hope this helps ....chanel@mikeys helpdesk

  • @mikeyssmail thanks, i just started one with two strands though the gaps are still there but definatly lessened , when this is done i am going to try chunky yarn, love the videos gives me hope that my kniffty knitters weren't a waste of cash, and can produce something decent without chunky yarn...though i am going to try that next, thanks to you my looms are now out of retierment! thanks for the video and for keeping new little heads warm w/ your donations!

  • hi your video was great i made a baby hat in 45 min i was wondering if you new the number of stiches with brim for the other size hats (child, adult, and large adult) thank you so much :D

  • @TheSeri30 mikey has other videos on youtube for an adult hat but not the other sizes you asked for..... for those you could probably find a number of patterns online........chanel@mikeys helpdesk

  • I just made my first knitted hat EVER!! You're a really good teacher!! I got it right the firs time and I didn't do bad at all!!

BTW this was my very first time I knitted ANYTHING in my life. lol Thank You so much!! :D

  • Hey Mike,

This is a GREAT tutorial...I am nor starting to make preemie hats for our local hospital in Ventura, CA. I am very grateful for the work you did. It made it very easy to understand and I have made my first hat! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Cindy

  • Thank you soooo much!!!! I donate care packages to my local NICU and these will be perfect!

  • So grateful for this tutorial. I recently inherited my Mom's set of rings and there were no instructions. Now I'm really excited about getting started. I found that little hook among her crochet supplies, too, thank goodness. Thanks Michael for all the details!

  • Thank you SO much for this video, I was able to finally successfully complete a baby hat!

  • If you do leave out the brim it fits the newborn better...I made one with for my friend and it did not fit her 6lb baby...without it fit

  • Super super super helpful! I have wanted to learn how to knit for awhile now! My dad bought me a lot of knitting supplies and books- but they were really confusing and not that detailed. I sat down and watched your video and knit my first hat today- it turned out perfect! Thank you for being so helpful, it's truly appreciated <3

  • Thank you for this video. It is so easy to follow. I've tried to teach myself to knit for years and never could get it.

  • Thank you for this video, I have now made 5 hats of various sizes and have even taught myself how to make a flower decoration using the loom by rolling up a straight length of knitting. I have also ventured on to crocheting flowers when I never thought I could figure out crochet! Your videos are great and I like you cat videos too!

  • Great Video! I just made my first baby hat thanks to this video!

  • Thank you!! :)

  • thank you so much for this video. I was so sad cause I was trying to hard to crochet a hat for my boyfriend then I went and bought this package (:

  • Thanks.. You are AWESOME!!,

  • do you skip a peg every row or just that one time?

  • This is fantastic! Already taught my mother; we've made about half a dozen hats for Save the Children so far. THANKS!

  • I think that is a great idea to have a brim on the hat!...Thank you for inpiring me to make a hat with a Knifty Knitter! I have started a hat with a brim and i love, love, love the idea.....Did you come up with that?To charity?...how sweet!!

  • I think that is a great idea to have a brim on the hat!...Thank you for inpiring me to make a hat with a Knifty Knitter! I have started a hat with a brim and i love, love, love the idea.....Did you come up with that?

  • This was SO helpful!!! Thank you so much!!!

  • i just finished a hat for my uncle its the third thing ive made o the knifty knitter and because of this vid its the best :D Than you mikeyssmail!!!!!!

  • Greetings from Down Under.....I recently bought myself a set of looms and have found your video's absolutely fantastic....So easy to follow...I have knitted up a couple of preemie hats for my daughters dolls...They love them...

I have found the row count for adult hats, but am unable to find a count for a childs hat...Should I just split the difference between the preemie hat and the adult size??? 20 rows for child size????

  • I always wondered what these loom rings were for!! Thanks! Im going to Walmart now!

  • do i really need a brim?

  • @jamersonlloyd That's up to you. You are the creator, you decide what's right for you.

  • @mikeyssmail will i still have the same look without a brim?

  • do i really need a brim?

  • Thanks so much!

  • thx for the vid! much easier to follow than the instructions that came with the loom. i want to try a scarf with the straight loom next. do u have any scarf tutorials?

  • Looks like a candy cane. But see, somehow... following all your directions... my rows get tighter and tighter... I can't seem to get enough slack in my line to pop them over the top of the peg... but when I wrap the pegs, they're LOOSE... LOTS of give... I don't understand.. can you help me?

  • fantastic!

  • Booga booga booga! I'm going crazy and pushing my stitches all the way down to the bottom of the pegs! Someone call a psychiatrist! LOL JK, nice tutorial, I'm going to do this except with the largest ring for an adult hat.

  • how would I make an adult hat I was following this video then I noticed it is for a small child ... I have looked for other videos but none are as informative as this one ... is it possible to follow this same pattern but to add more rings to the hat?

  • THANKS!!! I've been making hats like crazy!! I was wondering what charity you give your hats to because I want to start making hats for charity too.

  • i just made my 1st baby hat ever!! well my 1st loom knitting project ever...n it looks amazing!! didnt take that much time!! thx!! <3

  • how kind of you. I know those babes will look so cute in your creations...thanks for this video, I never knitted in my life. I am a bit scared to try I am left handed so I get a bit confused at times. Can I do what you did only backwards? Will that work okay?

  • very helpful video! what would you recommend for a newborn that is only a month old? should it be a little bigger size?

  • sorry for the multiple posts, did not know it went through the first time. :)

  • When I read the pamphlet that came with my looms, it said to anchor yarn on the outside peg. Does it matter if you use the anchor peg on the outside of loom?

  • @belindajane59 mikey slipknots and puts the yarn on the forst peg he is going to use it is anchored by the slip knot...... this is how he does it......you could do it either way.... mikey usually does thing in easier ways than directions say but its really whats easier for you!!

    Chanel @mikeys helpdesk.....

  • When I read the pamphlet that came with my looms, it said to anchor yarn on the outside peg. I noticed you kept it in your hand, instead of anchoring it. Does it matter if you use the anchor peg on the outside of loom?

  • When I read the pamphlet that came with my looms, it said to anchor yarn on the outside peg. I noticed you kept it in your hand, instead of anchoring it. Is there a reason for that or does it matter if you use the anchor peg on the outside of loom?

  • this helps sooo much, i have been making hats for a while and i forgot how to finish it but thanks

  • thankyou very much

  • Great video. Just made my first hat.....going to make lots for my grandson and granddaughter! Thanks so much.

  • Omg this has helped me sooooo much! thank you for uploading this video, I've never used a loom for knitting but this seems so much easier than normal knitting for a newborn beenie :) thanks again!

  • Thanks for making this so easy. I just made my first hat.

  • man that was a great vid it looks so easy i'm goin to buy some looms now lol thanks.

  • Ahh!! I did it, thank you so much for this, it was incredibly helpful and now my friends little boy has a new homemade hat :)!!

  • Thanks for posting this video! I'm new to the knitting / crocheting world. The directions that came with my knifty knitter confused me, where the hook is concerned (this can be seen in your video from 3:10 to 3:15) I was doing it completely wrong!

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I used your video for my first loom project, and it was very helpful. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you so much. So well-spoken and easy to understand. I made my first hat with you and will be making a few more for a charity Christmas drive. You rock :)

  • ive had mine done for a year now and have not yet closed it is there another way to close it with out the big brim just the size of the hat?

  • @PEACEMAKER208 so you dont want the brim on it at the start of the hat or you dont like how its finished on the the top at the end??

  • Ugh! I love you for making these for charity! Im gonna go get a loom right now. Thanks for sharing the info. :)

  • How long does it take to make a hat for an adult with one of those?

  • @Zambaku heya this chanel from the crochet crowd helpdesk aka mikeyssmail,

Actually to whip up an adult hat on a loom doesnt take too long but really depends on your skill level and how much time you have to dedicate to the project!!

    chanel :)

  • Video was great, but you weren't lying about the cheapy needle

  • The video is so helpful! I have never made a hat before but really want to now, thanks!

  • I love your video. You walk us through every step. I just bought my knifty knitter long loom ones but I will try to adapt. Thanks!!!

  • that is so nices. when u sale these hats like would change for them????

  • @sexyback161 not sure what oyur asking here?? Chanel@mikeyssmails helpdesk

  • Thanks for the video! You do not need (or want) a brim on babies hats all the time. Sometimes it is too tight. Just wrap the loom 3 times when casting on.. then knit the 1 over the 2... it creates a braided type rim. I do that & then just ewrap 20 rows and gather it to cast off. I have never had a seem either.. not sure why yours does that. I have never seen it before. lol. Off to watch your other videos!!

  • this is cool! im making baby hats for a hospital for newborns! i think its cool

  • well in making a hat but the loop on the inside keeps getting bigger........is that supposed to happen. its for a school project so i need to know soon

  • Mikey, I just want to thank you so very much for taking your time out to show people how to make things, I have always wanted to learn how to make a baby hat and sweater so I made a hat from a loom along with your tutorial, it is just the cutest little hat, you are truly appreciated.......Margie in Pa.

  • i just absolutely love ur vids.. omg.. ur the best keep up the good work sweetie

  • I want to make a hat for myself but I don't really know the exact measurements. Thankyou for your vid because it gave me some idea!

  • what if u want to make like a benie of a hat how many lines will u have to do?

  • Thank you so much for your help. Im making hats for my twin grandkids. This was easy to follow. Thanks again

  • This is a very good instructional video. Being left handed, as I am I followed the instructions going in the opposite direction than the right handed instructer said to do. It worked just fine for me so if you are left handed don't fear. We lefties can use these looms.

  • very helpful and detailed. thank you for making this video!

  • I think it will be easier if you place the bottom of the loop on the table so you don't get stuck whenever you do your yarn over.

  • Thank you so much for sharing these videos!!

  • Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! I just made my first hat! Your instructions were so clear and easy.....YAY!!!

  • Thank you for this tutorial!

  • how to you put a puffball on the top?

  • Thankyou so much, i brought a really cheep loom from the £1 shop and couldnt follow the instructions because they were just so confusing so i thought i would youtube it and now i have a baby hat to show for it thankyou so much!!!

  • I don't get a seam when I make this, I wonder what I do differently?

  • Comment removed

  • I wanted to thank you for posting your video. It was very well done. I was able to make a respectable looking hat in a short amount of time. I work at a hospital and love your idea of donating to the nursery. You're awesome!

    Chad

  • I love you and Diva Dan.............Im so glad I saw your video when trying to find a video on how to knit on a loom LOVE YOU<3<3<3<3

  • Your videos are great! I have learned so many time saver techniques from watching. Thanks

  • what if you dont have the needle? What do I do?

  • how long do you make the hat

  • @nosam1998 if you watch the tutorial he says how many rows :)

  • is the hat in the background for national coming out day?

  • I'm wanting to make a hat for regular newborn, what would be the instructions for that?

  • @momof20046 There is an ELF and SANTA Hat that is posted on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL... you can follow that... you need the next size up RIng that's in your package...and follow that Tutorial. :) Michael

  • @mikeyssmail LOL I just found it, then I saw your reply. Thanks I appreciate it.

I've already made two sets of preemies on my third. then I'm going to make regulars.

  • @momof20046 the same but with a bigger loom

  • are those rings easy to buy? and also the hooked tool you are using? i would love to do this xxx

  • @salldarling The rings are in most LARGE RETAILERS CRAFT SECTION... they come as a 4 pack... they come with a HOOK and Plastic Needle as well. Usually Walmart has them for 15 - 20 bucks.

  • @mikeyssmail oh noooo im in uk lol walmart is Asda here lol but nooo rings :( will try Ebay! xx

  • wow thanks man im doing this so on chrismas i dont have to spend so mutch money thanks for the info

  • Thanks soooo very much hugs to you Mikey for making knifty knit knifty and fun and easy with all of your videos !!!! I am enjoying everyone and put them in favorites for future references. I made a baby hat but I just ordered thicker yarn the yarn i used was very fine, I will try the double yarn and triple thanks to your instructions :) Keep doing what your doing loved the shaw hehe tooo fun:)

  • somethangs rong with my yearn because i thank im not holding it snug + every time i let go of it it looses HOW DO YOU PREVENT THIS

  • Great video! I always wondered how to prevent that seam! Thank you.

  • Mikey Mikey Mikey, If I could see you I would kiss you, I bought some looms a few years ago and could never understand the dang instructions. Your instructional video was awesome, and now I know how to do it. Thank You Thank You Thank You!!

  • Mikey, you are awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. I just bought my KK and after looking over the book instructions...ughh I wasn't too excited, but luckily for me I found your videos! I finished my first baby hat last night! Do you take requests? Is there an easy way to add a pom pom to the top of the loomed baby hats? Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the video it really helped me but for bigger hats so you need more stitches on the top

  • thank you for the videos! my daughter just told me this morning that she wanted to knit and i was kind of lost while looking at the knitting section at walmart but i will be headed there and pickiing up the kit and start my own father-daughter time with my girls... will let you know how it goes.

  • This looks so fun and easy!!! Im 26 weeks pregnant and I know my grandmother is knitting me all kinds of stuff but if she wasnt I'd be making my own using your video!!!

  • Thank you so much, I am new to knitfy knitter and my hat looks good. thanks so much.

  • is it different numers for bigger looms

  • That was great from start to finish. What is your counts for kids hats (using the slightly larger loom) and adult hats for the brim count then how many out from there? I have the kid hat sized loom and would love to try one for my daughters and one for me on the adult hat sized loom, just wondering the brim and length counts. Thanks

  • Love your video. I'm having problems with my two strands of yarn twisting together and making a mess. How do you prevent this from happening?

  • Why is it making mess? I don't quite get that?

  • @mikeyssmail

The strands are twisting around each other then knotting about two feet down.

  • @mikeyssmail

Hi Mike, watch your rectangular loom video and found out why the yarn was twisting. You have it laying next to your loom. I had it on the ground in the glass vase I use to hold my yarn when I'm knitting the traditional way. Makes a big difference! Thanks!!

  • @mikeyssmail

I have been having the same problem recently. The two strands twist together then gets tangled. I have to keep untangling the two strands every so often. I was wanting know to know why the strands do this and is there a way to prevent this in the future. Thanks.

  • I did a hat with my daughter. I did not get the seam, but the last peg wrapped was the first one off. That way the yarn would not flip off. I used two colors, but, I wrapped one, did one in the middle, did a third in the first color, came out great. Good father-daughter time.

  • :-( I is sad!! It took me 2 hours!! but thanks anyways......

  • at 17:44he repeated what he usually says!!

  • well I have no idea what I did wrong but thanks!!

  • just purchased a loom today . great instructions. ty

  • I am confused. I never get a visible seam on any of my loom hats, but I do two things differently. I start on the peg off the round loom and secure my loose strand there whenever I go around the loom again with a half-hitch. I do not skip any stitches. I think securing it means that the seam is so tight I don't see it. It makes pulling the first loop off harder but worth it. Also, I always work in the same direction. I wrap and loom in the same direction, this may also affect it.

  • Thank you SO much for the awesome tutorial...I definitely do not think I would have been
