Brilliant, had almost forgotten about this, was at Joy Division, strolled over to Tubeway Army (1st album stuff) and then a light went on "look up Ultravox/John Foxx era". Fucking great, thanks!
Although a rather èlitist and arty band, this song alone put them straight on MY map as a Punk band, and among the very best. Wire and Magazine were more truly arousing and fresh, but... 'de gustibus'...
The first songs from ultravox are mixed with synthy and punk elements , the stile of the voice sounds a little bit like the bloodhound gang or art brut.
the music of ultravox was similarly ahead of her time as Kraftwerk
@REDPUNK1VINYL It is the same band. The original Ultravox was a 5-piece band with John Foxx as singer; he made the first 3 albums with them, before Midge Ure, Vienna & chart success. Their first album (1977, produced by Brian Eno) is a classic. Hiroshima Mon Amour was on their second album Ha! Ha! Ha! & was the b-side of the single Rockwrok (late '77). Young Savage was their third single & wasn't on any album, it's a less "primitive" Punk Rock, as on Sat'day Night In The City Of The Dead
@REDPUNK1VINYL The original Ultravox were a more Punk version of Roxy Music (even on the first album, produced by Brian Eno) they did use electronic keyboards but they had the energy of Punk Rock, which in the US originally included bands as different as Television, Richard Hell & The Voidoids & Suicide (first synth duo & first to use the name Punk, as far back as 1971). I never liked the later Midge Ure era Ultravox, while the John Foxx Ultravox were great. By the way, thanks for posting this
@REDPUNK1VINYL Let me add that if you like Punk Rock you'd probably like the second Ultravox album best: Ha! Ha! Ha! (Rockwrok was the single: "Fuck like a dog/bite like a shark"! Lol!) It has also the wonderful Hiroshima Mon Amour.
I myself prefer the first album, it has great songs like My Sex, I Want To Be A Machine, The Wild The Beautiful And The Damned, Dangerous Rhythm, etc... but only Saturday Night In The City Of The Dead and Wide Boys sound like Punk Rock, a bit like Young Savage...
I've got this vinyl ep in my loft.

I assume it's the very same band who played 'Hiroshima Mon Amour', didn't know they had such a "wild" past really. Nice!
