  • Whoa! Thats amazin'

  • No Figure Trees?

  • fuckin badass

  • Really fucking awesome, sounds great!

  • PHENOMENAL.

  • I like the way he move ... :D

  • great playing,

You can move seemlessley between phygrian and phygrian dominant if you are jamming over 5th chords to create really dynamic solos

  • Shit that's fucking good !

  • i think the drapes let in to much light during the day..lol sweet love that.

  • come on people..the drapes are nice..ha ha...i mean the guitaring....nice dude.

  • skikkelig flinkis du :)

Those are guitars that kill. :)

  • Ah,

For what it is worth, You have got my blessings

    Johnny

  • Awesome, this is definitely my favourite scale/mode, and you use it perfectly, good job!

  • they are men drapes.

  • Ha,ha..i have been stressing my wife to get rid of thos drapes and replace them with something a bit more "metal"..laughs..

  • i cant wait for Winds new album!

  • I love the drapes. the solo is sweet as well :)

  • That rhythm that you are playing over is just killer. Very atmospheric and prog sounding. Great lead playing also.

  • michael romeo scale! :D phrygian #3 is the most awesome mode of all. for those who don't know its basically the harmonic minor, starting on the 5th note (which ironically is a 5th).

anyways, that looks like an S320, am i right? i have the 7 string one, S7320 ans its fucking awesome.

    great playing :D

  • "starting on the 5th note (which ironically is a 5th)

    " <-- That ain't irony. . . It's coincidence.

Also, it can't be a 5th unless there's a prime to go with-- a 5th is an interval. . .BUUUUUHHHHHDDDDDDY

  • 5th mode of A harmonic minor..very cool sounding scale...have come up with some cool riffs of my own from it

  • that was reallly good man, i love ur tone, what equipment are you running (besides the ibanez)

  • The Phygrian Dominant Scale in E for idiots like me:

on the low E string: 0-1-4-5-7-8-10-12

Now play that, figure out what it is on other strings, enjoy. Can't read guitar music, that's how I learn

  • Because of the indiscriminate way the fredboard is mapped out, you can play 0-1-4-5-7-8-10-12 on any string, and you will find yourself playing a Phrygian Dominant scale.

It's all about the intervals.. note spacing.

  • theyre called scale degrees dude

  • how the fuck do u do that????

  • To me this sounds definitely like it is written in E Phrygian dominant. I expect Phrygian dominant songs to sound Spanish or Middle Eastern, and this one definitely does.

  • yeah definitely eastern sounding

  • okay I'm playing this scale (I think it's some type of Phrygian)

    It goes...

    1 - 2 - #3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - #7

If it's not Phrygian tell me what it is.

  • umm...a major scale? i can't tell what you mean. i think you're confused on scale degrees. a #3 is enharmonically a fourth... a #7 would be the octave... why don't you just tell me the actual notes?

  • ??? phrygian dominant is a phrygian mode but with its major third.

if ur playing "2" ur not playing none type of phrygian because phrygian has flattend second,

    greetings from chile bye

  • Phrygian dominant is Phrygian with a sharp 3rd. Sometimes raising the 7th is good because it gives you a nice leading tone quality (hence the reason harmonic minor was more common in the 17th century rather than natural...but enough history lesson). When you raise the 7th as well, it is still typically called Phrygian Dominant.

  • Raising the seventh as well as the third is usually known as a double harmonic minor, isn't it?

  • Hungarian gypsy scale says wiki.

    or in german: zigeuner moll^^

but in this case its the fifth mode cause u start on e. like E phrygian dominant is the 5th mode of A harmonic minor. so u raise the 7th (harmonic minor) and the 4th!!! actually.

    a b c d e f g# a harmonic minor (#7)

    a b c d# e f g# a Hungarian gypsy scale (#4, #7)

  • Raising the seventh as well as the third is usually known as a double harmonic minor, isn't it? phrygian dominant only has the #3, and harmonic minor only has the #7. im not sure about the double harmonic minor, but it sounds like its a different scale. ill look it up.

  • Raising the third and the seventh is the double harmonic, yeah. It sounds more Eastern, but that's because of the changed intervals anyways. The b2 and M3 interval and the b6 and M7 interval makes it sound even more unusual than the phrygian dominant.

  • b for "flat" in the instance you're talking about is kinda of confusing. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather see lower case "m" for minor.

  • 1- b2 - b3 - 4 - 5 - b6 - b7

    Try this :)))

  • i catch my self playing this scale for hours

  • Great Gig! 5 stars!

  • every body uses this scale in the egyptian way, but so few use it in the spanish/flamenco sounding way.

  • That's because electric guitarists can't play flamenco; the thought of playing fast with their fingers scares the hell out of them. But that's just conjecture on my part.

  • just because we can't play flamenco, doesn't mean that we can't use spanish/flamenco chord progressions and melodies

  • There is a flamenco metal band called flametal.

  • That's a huuuuge overgeneralization.

Of course most metal guitarists can't play flamenco as well as pure flamenco guitarists, but neither can classical guitarists, nor fingerpickers like Chet Atkins.

And sorry, but I've never seen any flamenco guitarist play 30something notes per second (like Tiego Della Vega, who's a metal guitarist).

As for myself, I can play some flamenco, classical, country as well as rock and metal. You can't specialize in every genre in existence. It's inefficient.

  • hah you pick the way I do \m/

    shit feels good

  • more melody less shred

  • Everyone keeps making that comment about these videos. It is conceivable that maybe other peoples taste in music differs from yours. That is a possibility, isn't it? Everyone else isn't wrong, are they? I suppose the Rondo A la Turk had too much shred as well. Well, I guess it's just a shame that Mozart didn't have you around to point out what he was doing wrong.

  • Very nice. What fingering of the scale do you use? I can't figure out how to shred a phrygian dominant.

  • The phrygian dominant is the third mode of the harmonic minor, which is just like the normal minor, but with a raised seventh.

Just googled for "phrygian dominant", and you'll most likely find a neck chart outlining it.

  • Thanks. I am aware of the fingering and position of the scale, I was just wondering what shred patterns you were using in the video.

  • acually it starts on the fifth degree of the harmonic scale

  • It's also called the Jewish Scale and the Spanish Scale.

  • those aren't finger taps, they're sweeps.

  • Very nice... ;) Awesome... I Like it... the Backing thing too...

  • amazing. nice arpeggios, neoclassical feel, shredding yet combined with fluency and smoothness

  • that is insane

  • God indeed. Those finger taps are insane. Great work. Prominence and Demise is fantastic! I love it.

  • Carl Tidemann is GOD!!

  • Great Job!

  • awesome i love phrygian dominant

  • that was friggin' awesome. It's also my favorite key to play in. Where did you get the backing track?? Recorded it yourself?? It sounds great for improvising. Could you perhaps send me a link or something on my profile?? Tnx. Great playin'

  • Get a loop pedal and jam over the progression you just played live. :)

  • some people like to focus on their playing and not "rocking out" all the time.

  • HES IS THE FUCKING STUDIO YOU MORON if you were in studio you would know better than to stand up.

  • Nice Stuff man!

  • sounds awesome but it also makes me want to go build a pyramid...lol

  • That's the nature of the phrygian mode. Phrygian literally means--"go build for thy self a mighty pyramid"

  • shweeeeet!!

  • would u send me BT of the song... great stuff...

  • Incredible sweep picking technique.

  • Awesome!

  • He is my favorite guitar player that's for sure

  • Great!!

  • Good stuff!
