For the first time, I can actually say that the new Code is doing something right. You're seeing more athletes go for harder skills. Back in the 80s and 90s, it doesn't make sense to throw a skill that you can't land cleanly 100%... even a few steps drops you out of the running, that's likely why you wouldn't see Bogi throw a double-double or double layout in majoy competition.
wooow it´s a shame she didn´t perform that double double during her peak moments...in 1989 or 1990 but most gymnast grow up after the olympics and being too tall it was harder...in training she also threw double layouts...
It's insane how much the difficulty of her tumbling decreased after her coach died. The soviets always had such amazing skills but most of the time they never threw them in competition.
@afgymnast96 well she was much shorter then. In an interview (don't remember the year, but World championship (in US) when Christina Bontas also competed) she told that as well. She wasn't able to twist so quickly as she used to. Still she turned into a swan.
@Swankdor I think the skill has to be performed at Olympics, Worlds or some World Cup competition to have it named after the gymnast. I could be wrong though ...
@cymraegambyth - I believe that is so....unfortunately as thats kind of unfair, a russian girl was regulary doing double doubles in 86, aghhhh her name escapes me btw could you also be a fellow welshman/woman with a username like that????
SHE nailed that!!!!!!!!!!

@ranaantonio If she would have thrown this at the 1988 Olympics she would have gotten gold in the event finals for sure
