I've got a problem:

Game starts fine after all the patches and etc. But I have random, completely random crashes in menus.

Sometimes I can be in menu for 15 minutes without crashes, but sometimes I can't even click on "Single player" thingy.

The racing mode itself works excellent. But I can't really play the game like that - without any options adjusted or car selected...

I followed your instructions and everything went well up to the point when i wanted to run the game. It says "Your hard drive has less than 1MB free space. If you encounter problems please refer to the reference card." When I click on ok and ignore the message the game turns on and falls down because of some error within the next 5 seconds. My computer freezes completely and i have to restart it.

Do you have any clue?

If you don't have the required files, then you must connect online to download them first.  But for some reason, if you DO have them, then this can be done offline...

OK I have reinstalled nfshs and applied all the patches, and in either 3d setup mode it would run very very slow. So I did some research and after 2 long hours of surfing the web, I right cliked on the icon, clicked the compatibility tab, and deseleted compatability mode. Ran the game and it was actually running at the correct speed. I closed it and set the 3d setup to Direct3d Device1, and I actually don`t miss the old graphics! I was able to extract files from one patch with Win-Rar, (nfspatch4_50) and if I set the 3d setup mode to 'Direct3d Device1' the game wont load. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Usually your video or graphics controller may be the cause of this. What is your graphics controller? Are other games working?

My computer is running on a Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family.

All my other games work fine except one, but it never ran anyway.

I was able to install the "NOCD" patch and nfspatch4_50.

The game will load to the menu without playing the movie even with the disk in the drive but and soon as it loads the main menu, it closes leaving an abort message, STREAM-unable to open file '.\\Data\Audio\Music\munu1.asf '. And the disk is in the drive the entire time.

I intstalled it exactly like this video says. I copied the music and video files where they're supposed to be.

I can play the game.

But it crashes every few minutes. And even if I doesn't crash, any video/sound/HUD options I adjust, do not get saved at all and always return to default.

Anyone help me what is the problem?

Hmm... This sounds like an interesting problem you have here. From this certain circumstance, it sounds like you're trying to run the game from portable media, such as a USB flash memory drive, or an external USB hard disk drive. Are you? If not, then what are your computer's specifications? It's usually the problem for most users in the first place. Some video cards act up on old games such as this one...

If the audio is still on the CD, then you must copy the folder to your installed directory on the HDD. Yet, I have solved this same problem before.

#CD #AUDIO #MUSIC are some searches you could use.

Hmm. Since you mention you have a disc, and not a freeload ISO, check your disc. It maybe time to replace it, unless autoplay isn't turned on, because there should be no reason why Windows XP should not load the autoplay setup program.

You probably need to uninstall your game, and all the registry entries that belong with it. Then, do a clean full install and you should be set...

Go to the CD root and find the setup program. Right click, properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and then click on Windows 98/Windows ME (I think it is), and there you're off.

The first thing to do is to look at your computer specs. This is usually the case, most of the time that is. What are your computer's specs?

Then you should have no problem with specs like that. The specs for the PC that the tutorial was done on were much lower than that. So, try to update your drivers.

Mine seems to load to a black screen and none further, and I've tried every patch I can find on the internet, including the 4.50 patch, all your patches, an updated 3d patch, using compatibility mode, no-cd patch, and none seem to let me get past booting to a black screen. Your video card is fine to me, but feel free to upgrade if you want, yet I don't think that will even solve your problem. The problem itself is particularly odd, as I have never heard anything like that. Maybe it is your drivers, or something else.

I installed a new version though, and now with all set to high, background and FX on, it's much better although I still can't shake the feeling that the game I played 10 years ago looked much better. I ran it a few days ago when i wanted to play High Stakes for many years, but it didn't seemingly do any damage to my PC. I don't think it's really a harmful virus, especially when i've come to know that cracks need a virus to work.

If you mean the PSX version, then you'll have to find another tutorial for that on PSX emulation. For the PC version, try it out for yourself, or check out the video response.
