  • This song has got to be one of the best songs ever written. Without doubt, it has made my world a better place. Thank you.

  • Saw Tim O'Brien & Arty McGlynn play in Glebe Gardens, Baltimore, Co.Cork recently- Fantastic

  • I'm pretty sure that's a bouzouki. I've a cheap got one that sounds good.

  • @blueprairie1 Problem is that for the same tuning the Bouzouki and Octave Mandolin/Mandola are pitched at the same octave so it comes down to scale length. At 660mm it has to be a Zouki and at 500mm an Octave Mando. But at a point in between it can get a bit confused. At 585mm it could be named an OM by one manufacturer and a short scale zouk by another. Dave Freshwater from Scotland sells a 610mm scale as an OM. Untill there is a world recognised dividing point it is up to own preference

  • I'm thinking that's an Octave Mandolin. A bouzouki has a scale of 25 1/2", and that doesn't look anywhere that long

  • Ah - gorgeous song from my hero Timbo, who'll be here in Oz in 3 weeks - bliss! The countdown has started!

  • Looks like Tim's playing a Giacomel J3 Mandola

  • @BanjoBoyMatteo close but not really, thats a bauzouki. its a little bit bigger and is tuned a little differently

  • Tim O'Brien's voice is so mellow and he's a great musician as well. I think it's so cool that Dirk Powell (one of the finest Old Time fiddlers/musicians) is playing bass. What a bunch of talent on that stage. Great song.

  • He was at Ola Belle Reed festival in Lansing NC I was there

  • " If each mortal could only become a focus of dynamic affection, this benign virus of love would soon pervade the sentimental emotion-stream of humanity to such an extent that all civilization would be encompassed by love, and that would be the realization of the brotherhood of man." - TUB

  • Pretty sure that's an octave mandolin and a particularly fine sounding one.

There aren't too many people that can sing as well as Tim O'Brien. What a gift.

  • All my love xxx

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written by a Master Songwriter/Musician. Tim O'Brien is a national treasure and much appreciated. Thank You...

  • couldn't agree more. THIS is the song that turned me on to Tim and the one that I requested when I had the chance. He played at least a dozen request that night in Kent, OH. God Bless.

  • Beautiful. Voice a little like Jonathan Edwards.

  • Super musik and mandolin.

  • Is that a mandola or an octave mandolin? In any case, it sounds really sweet. Tim O'Brien is one of the most under rated musicians around but he's well respected among musicians.

  • Oh I agree. I feel like I just discovered him. More, and more love indeed!!. I told my friends about him and they disgustedly said, "We've been talking about him for years, did you listen to the tape?

  • Is that Cassey Driessen on fiddle? He is one of my favorite

  • Ahh, isn't he just amazing ... He played this song when I saw him play in London this year, it was truly emotional. He has such a powerful yet contained voice, and what a musician ... I going to see him again in just over a month, I'm soo looking forward to it !

  • I'd not heard Tim's version before now...I like it better than the Dixie Chicks version.

  • Is that John Doyle on guitar all the way stage left? Thanks for posting this.

  • Yes, it is! Good catch! I heard him before I saw him. Tim and John complement each other so well... this is my favorite incarnation of the O'Brien Band, with the fantastic Casey Dreissen as well.

  • What such a great song! Thank you so much for posting it, I waiting for that one my favorite

    ♥

  • This was a GREAT show. This was the 5th Tim O`Brien show I had been to. He is always GREAT. He has written many fantastic songs.

  • Tim O'Brien is great(so is Hot Rize) funny venue to see him but this is great!- his sister Mollie and Tim used to play on the streets of Boulder for change- 1977!

  • If you ever get a chance to see this guy or any of these guys in person... take that opportunity!!! They are amazing musicians. :)
