The homeless hurt themselves by leaving all kinds of their trash in the doorways/places they sleep in and as a result the businesses/owners of the doorways/places raise hell about having to clean up the mess which in turn brings on a crackdown on homeless sleeping in doorways. Not all the homeless do it but a majority enough that it brings down the crackdown on all the homeless.
