In early 80s, I had DIARY OF A MADMAN,SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE,KROKUS HEADHUNTERMAIDEN NUMBER OF THE BEAST SABBATH MOB RULES and Motley Crue Too Fast for Love & shout at the devil .. in my tape case and valued them like Gold
I had to learn most of the bass lines when the album releasd, so i didn't bother to even look at the album arrangments. very impressive. Dasiley just moved up many notches in my book!!!. i love the lyrics on that whole album, i haven't played that lp since the late 80's.. gonna pull it out now. that's outstanding stuff about Bob Daisily. thanls for that info. can't wait to read that book.
Bob Dasiley recorded it but rudy sarzo played live and played very well. i wonder what happened between ozzy and bob Dasiley for him not to credit him on the album?

@fishfan67 I think it was shame that Sarzo and Aldrich got their photos on the Diary album. Sure, they are accomplished musicians but it wasn't their songs. The whole thing was a mess.....and a great album!
@fishfan67 Bad spelling on my part - Tommy Aldridge. Musta been thinking Doug Aldrich - that guy is fantastic!
Anyway, check out "Diary of a Madman" on Wikipedia. I think that's a pretty good idea of what happened. Greed is what happened. I think it's a shame. Years ago I signed up for Daisley's class action suit. I think I pissed off his lawyers but he's a pretty neat guy and he deserves his due.
@DickLodge68 Dick iv'e seen them live in the early 80's many of times and boy was i fooled even though Sarzo and Aldeidge are both fantastic. but you fave to give props to where it's due. and if Dailey wrote and played on the album then his picture should have been on the cover if he wanted, that's crazy the dude even wrote the songs? incredible!
@fishfan67 If I remember correctly, back then The copywrite issue wasnt much of an issue like it is today. And I would imagine Ozzy was thinking "This is my band-Now" ,thats why I think it went down how it did. but I could be wrong.
Rudy Sarzo is such a freat bass player that doesn't receive the credit that he deserves. i saw him live with ozzy and randy two times and trust me ozzy couldn't have found a better bass player or guiitar player.

"...originally that song was called "Strange Voyage", they changed the name to "S.A.T.O." and all that meant was Sharon Adrian Thelma Ozzy. @DickLodge68 , i just read your reply to my post and your reply to quantum494 post, 1 question mate if you think what you do about ozzy ? @sme4969 Don't call me mate....you got my name right - Dick....polish it! You don't need to reply because obviously Ozzy can do no wrong by you. He screwed his former "mates" and laughed while running to the bank. That doesn't mean anything to you, "mate"...err, I meant you piece of crap!
@quantum494 lmao. cause he disappeared for so long of his own free will... it was kinda strange actually... that he presented us with another version of amazing guitar playing, then just choose to take the backlight...
@quantum494 First up Jake E. Lee didn't write songs like Randy did with Ozzy. I don't think anyone can question Jake's playing and ability. But I doubt Jake had the ability to write Diary of a Madman....and there is the difference. Everyone looks at Ozzy like some God....and expects everything from the guitarist. The cold hard fact that no one wants to admit is that Ozzy sucks as a song-writer/singer and Rhoads created the best songs Ozzy ever even dreamed of.
@dig6dog I never said Randy is a powerchord douch. Actually he's one of my favourite guitarists. What I said was "doesn't Randy Rhoads use power chords too?"... Mr Crowley, I Don't Know, S.A.T.O, Little Dolls, Suicide Solution, all these songs have power chords.
Hands down my absolute favorite Randy Rhoads solo. Totally sick! The "one-note screams" are so bad-ass. The whole solo KILLS but 2:29-2:41has, since 1981, blown my fucking mind and always will!
@monsta64 I concur councilor... this has always been my favorite too... especially the adrenalized on steoids Chuck Berry lick at 2:29...I lost my mind when I heard it the 1st time and haven't located it since... but then... the segue into my theme song....Diary... one is not near as potent without the other.... chills.....
'Slickness' - You said it dude, THAT'S the difference between the originals and the 2002 and what's missing from nearly all new music, for that matter... :(
I assume that you say this without realizing that if it weren't for Sharon and Ozzy discovering him and plucking him from obscurity, it's possible that no one would have ever heard of randy.
@Fdgod985 why? because Cobain sucks? Because his lame power chord joke of a band is responsible for fucking up rock music? I am glad he blew his brains out, he should have done it before he got famous.
@pinkypimpalicous ur a fucking faggot he didnt ruin rock music yes his music is simple but it opened the door for so much more music u fucking retarded prick its fuck heads like u that kill music
@Fdgod985 first off I aint no faggot, I get more pussy than your dyke ass sister. and second, Cobain and talent-less pussies like him and his power chord cant-sing-for-shit so called "musicians" fucked music up, it lacks talent and originality and now we got annoying bands like Blink 182, Bush and Green Day, just to name a few that I hate who have NO TALENT, the dickheads people like you praise. You have no respect for musical talent, what so ever.
@pinkypimpalicous yes u r a faggot and so much for sticking up for rock ur name is PINKY(GAY)pimpalicous(RAP+GAY) so ur gay yes u get more ass then my sister SHES 13 dumbass and btw u cant call any1 tallentless when U HAVE NO TALENT btw Blink-182 and greenday kickass(greenday not so lately) and blink-182 drummer travis barker is 1 of the best drummers today BY FAR only comparisons are Joey Jordsin and Niel Pert
@Fdgod985 you really should learn to stop talking. Every time you open your mouth, you make yourself look even dumber. Pinky ( Next Friday/Friday After Next....you stupid fuck) and pimpalicious, something you will never be. I have no talent? Ok how many times have you heard me playing guitar? Thats right, you stupid fuck, NONE. Keep spewing your ignorance, you are only making yourself look dumber each time. Pretty soon, you will be required to wear a helmet at all times.
@Fdgod985 I have dropped jaws with my guitar skills. I can play circles around Cobain if his brains werent all over the floor. I actually know chords and how to play a fucking guitar, I dont strum power chords and scream in a terrible voice. And Pinky is a playa, douche bag. Just like me. Want me to prove it? Gimme ur address. One day you will come home and I will be fuckin your mom on your bed.
@Fdgod985 your only defense is accusing me of being gay. you know what they say about those that accuse others of being gay. Uh huh....FLAMER! And how would you supposedly know so much about me? Your whole train of thought is about as intelligent as a first grade dropout. And I aint posting any videos because you will overlook my skills and say something stupid like I have gay shoes. So please stop wasting my time & go back to taking picture of kids at the playground.
@Fdgod985 LOL oh you're fifteen? Look dipshit, I been playing guitar longer than you been around on this earth. So go finish your homework, eat your vitamins, say your prayers and maybe SOME DAY you will be at my level. Until then, you are strictly a wannabe.
@Fdgod985 keep up with your homosexual accusations. Its only making your own sexuality look more and more questionable. You been to any parades lately, chi chi man?
@gregsmusic1 mmmm vagina is awesome. I wish I could live in one, thats how awesome vagina is. Vagina is almost as awesome as Randy Rhoads' guitar skills. Totally non-gay comment.
@Drumkitupyourass Yes, I have been playing guitar for 18 years. And though yes every guitarist uses power chords, not all of them rely on strumming power chord after power chord while your singer pretends he can sing. And whats with this faggot shit? Cant anyone come up with a better insult than pointing a finger and calling someone a homosexual? Here's an original one....POOPYHEAD!
@ivankiller57 Substitute Chuck Schuldiner for Kurt and you got a deal. Kurt did himself in, he is where he should be and wanted to be. Randy, Dime, and Chuck had no choice in the matter.
@samfrompasingtime No, Kurt Cobain killed himself because he was treated shit all his life and his mom forced drugs upon him as a kid, in the end everything that mattered was Nirvana and he kept a vow that he'd kill himself if they split up, when they did... he offed himself. But i feel that Randy and Dimebag died unfair deaths and most importantly UNWILLINGLY, and in this situation they are the true heroes.
@PerpetualLifecycle I don't argue that all of that is true (and that Randy could play the Nirvanna catalog in his sleep is beyond debate), but if you also listen to PENNY ROYAL TEA and what not, it mentions the pain and diet that he was forced to be on that he hated. The smack didn't help.
Certainly the greater loss on any level was Randy, but Kurt sometimes gets a bad rap.
the riffs flow like liquid mixed with thunder & lightning and the solo's are like a symphony of explosive super-charged fireworks, this shit is the balls and you will never hear another guitarist come close to what this young man did in his short time.
Just listened to the 'other' version for the first time and wow.....all I can say is wow. I don't think that Sharon found another drummer and bassist to play the new tracks, I think that Sharon played bass and drums for all the tracks on the album. Ozzy's vocals were remixed, again awfully, as well.
Guys, i read a flyer that was included in Scream. It said Ozzy will re-release Blizzard of Ozz, and Diary of a Madman as 30th anniversary deluxe edition albums, "restored to their original performaces". Get ready everybody!
Just compared this to a more recent one and yeah... the rercorded one is TOTAL shit. I had the originals on cassette when they came out, and thanx for the tip on the new ones.... I'll keep my eyes open for these ones!
This was probably my favorite album of them all, used to make the parents mad blasting these songs all hours of the day. . . I think that's how Ozzy and Randy would have had it XD
If you listen to the first part of the Diary of a Madman on the remaster with the overdub with the new guys, you will hear the first part of the Randy Rhoads solo was overdubbed with somebody too.
The new "re-recorded" versions of Ozzy's first 2 albums just don't cut it. The true old school Ozzy fans can tell the difference, and we don't like it! Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake were bad-ass!
the scale is G# phrygian, as you can hear the same run with two extra notes at the end of the solo, and it resolves to E major for a cool little effect
"Ozzy's friends"? Wouldn't it be "SRATO"? You guys are all on crack. It NOT Ozzy's friends, it's NOT Sailing Across The Ocean... it stands for "Stupid Asswipe, That's Ozzy".
Brilliant fucking song!

Fdgod985 1 year ago
@Fdgod985 you really should learn to stop talking. Every time you open your mouth, you make yourself look even dumber. Pinky ( Next Friday/Friday After Next....you stupid fuck) and pimpalicious, something you will never be. I have no talent? Ok how many times have you heard me playing guitar? Thats right, you stupid fuck, NONE. Keep spewing your ignorance, you are only making yourself look dumber each time. Pretty soon, you will be required to wear a helmet at all times.
pinkypimpalicous 1 year ago
@pinkypimpalicous if u play guitar then upload a video ok bitch and btw pinky (from Friday)is a boss ur not and u look like a rapist not a pimp bitch
Fdgod985 1 year ago
@Fdgod985 I have dropped jaws with my guitar skills. I can play circles around Cobain if his brains werent all over the floor. I actually know chords and how to play a fucking guitar, I dont strum power chords and scream in a terrible voice. And Pinky is a playa, douche bag. Just like me. Want me to prove it? Gimme ur address. One day you will come home and I will be fuckin your mom on your bed.
pinkypimpalicous 1 year ago
@pinkypimpalicous ok fag post a video and ill believe it btw ur far from a playa bitch u probably fuck ur own mom bc ur dad asked u to
Fdgod985 1 year ago
@Fdgod985 your only defense is accusing me of being gay. you know what they say about those that accuse others of being gay. Uh huh....FLAMER! And how would you supposedly know so much about me? Your whole train of thought is about as intelligent as a first grade dropout. And I aint posting any videos because you will overlook my skills and say something stupid like I have gay shoes. So please stop wasting my time & go back to taking picture of kids at the playground.
pinkypimpalicous 1 year ago
@pinkypimpalicous i wudnt care about shoes WTF and u just have no skill.
taking pictures of kids at the playground???? thats ur job im 15 i got homework to do and chicks to screw so fuck off flamer
Fdgod985 1 year ago
@Fdgod985 LOL oh you're fifteen? Look dipshit, I been playing guitar longer than you been around on this earth. So go finish your homework, eat your vitamins, say your prayers and maybe SOME DAY you will be at my level. Until then, you are strictly a wannabe.

@gregsmusic1 mmmm vagina is awesome. I wish I could live in one, thats how awesome vagina is. Vagina is almost as awesome as Randy Rhoads' guitar skills. Totally non-gay comment.

@pinkypimpalicous
Who are you to judge Kurt Cobain and Blink 182? Do you really play guitar? Then tell me, doesn't Randy Rhoads use power chords too?
Faggot.
Drumkitupyourass 1 year ago
@Drumkitupyourass Yes, I have been playing guitar for 18 years. And though yes every guitarist uses power chords, not all of them rely on strumming power chord after power chord while your singer pretends he can sing. And whats with this faggot shit? Cant anyone come up with a better insult than pointing a finger and calling someone a homosexual? Here's an original one....POOPYHEAD!

Better yet, let's add Steve Clark, Robin Crosby and Bon Scott to the list (even though I love Vivian, Carlos and Brian).
sheephider82 1 year ago
@ivankiller57 Substitute Chuck Schuldiner for Kurt and you got a deal. Kurt did himself in, he is where he should be and wanted to be. Randy, Dime, and Chuck had no choice in the matter.

@ivankiller57 Why Cobain? Cobain killed himself because he wanted to die, he didnt get shot or died in a crash
PerpetualLifecycle 1 year ago
@PerpetualLifecycle he was in misery. his stomach was agony
Sam
samfrompasingtime 1 year ago
@samfrompasingtime No, Kurt Cobain killed himself because he was treated shit all his life and his mom forced drugs upon him as a kid, in the end everything that mattered was Nirvana and he kept a vow that he'd kill himself if they split up, when they did... he offed himself. But i feel that Randy and Dimebag died unfair deaths and most importantly UNWILLINGLY, and in this situation they are the true heroes.
PerpetualLifecycle 1 year ago
@PerpetualLifecycle I don't argue that all of that is true (and that Randy could play the Nirvanna catalog in his sleep is beyond debate), but if you also listen to PENNY ROYAL TEA and what not, it mentions the pain and diet that he was forced to be on that he hated. The smack didn't help.
Certainly the greater loss on any level was Randy, but Kurt sometimes gets a bad rap.

Just listened to the 'other' version for the first time and wow.....all I can say is wow. I don't think that Sharon found another drummer and bassist to play the new tracks, I think that Sharon played bass and drums for all the tracks on the album. Ozzy's vocals were remixed, again awfully, as well.
tommott77 1 year ago
Guys, i read a flyer that was included in Scream. It said Ozzy will re-release Blizzard of Ozz, and Diary of a Madman as 30th anniversary deluxe edition albums, "restored to their original performaces". Get ready everybody!

The new "re-recorded" versions of Ozzy's first 2 albums just don't cut it. The true old school Ozzy fans can tell the difference, and we don't like it! Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake were bad-ass!

just amazing

the scale is G# phrygian, as you can hear the same run with two extra notes at the end of the solo, and it resolves to E major for a cool little effect
