It is true that the 1st Amendment of the bill of rights gives us the right of peaceably assembly. But if you want to protest anywhere other than private land you need a permit and the permission of the city. A protest demonstration can be disbanded if any part of the group becomes unruly and disturbs the peace (acts of aggression, obesities too loud ect.) The police do misuse this power, but the police wipe their ass with the constitution every day. So, no you cant protest anywhere at any time.

1. Did the participants have a city permit to be there?
2. Did the participants obey the rules of the permit?
3. Did all participants respect the police and their boundry lines.
If the answer to any of these is no, then they got what they deserved.

It is true that the 1st Amendment of the bill of rights gives us the right of peaceably assembly. But if you want to protest anywhere other than private land you need a permit and the permission of the city. A protest demonstration can be disbanded if any part of the group becomes unruly and disturbs the peace (acts of aggression, obesities too loud ect.) The police do misuse this power, but the police wipe their ass with the constitution every day. So, no you cant protest anywhere at any time.

Police are so unprofessional. You're getting paid, stop throwing a fit at old women and skinny students! They're badly organised and under trained, they have to retaliate to bully boy tactics. It's embarrassing. I advocate better pay and better screening of police officers. Include training about why people protest and protesters rights (not that I protest myself), give them more time off to avoid getting burnt out. Never happen with either of the big two political parties in the states.
