I cannot say whether this is a masterpiece or not. All I can say is I didn't like it at all! I came here after watching Pina Bausch's choreography and this is at the very least old-fashioned in comparison. This, of course, is natural, but I also found this one lacking in grace and imagination. My personal humble opinion...
This is nothing like the original choreography. This is terrible! Where are the long robes? The whole thing is too orgiastic and pretentious. Nijinsky > whoever this dork is
Imagine it's 1913, going from Debussy with almost no rhythm, to this, with the most powerful, thrusting and complex rhythms ever written to that date. Shocking. No wonder it caused a riot.
@ltgerbilmuffin That's what it starts out as, but it goes on through Summoning of the Ancients, Ritual of the Ancients, and then the Sacrificial Dance.
GIRL DIED IN 1993, A MAN BURIED HER IN HER OWN home when she was still alive. The murderer chanted, "Toma sota balcu" as he buried her. Now that you have read the chant, you will meet this little girl. In the middle of the night she will stand at the side of your bed starring straight int your eyes. She will suffocate you like she was suffocated. This story is sadly true. If you post this 5 differnt times she will not
:D These eleven cords at the beginning... there is the rumor, that each conductur says "Rim-sky Kor-sa-kow is a son of a bitch" for counting during this passage.
@Gh35 I still see the T-Rex and Stegosaurus fighting in my mind. Not a bunch of people dancing around a virginal sacrifice. 19 years of dinosaurs wins in my mind. haha
@ladylungs This doesn't look entirely like the Nijinsky choreography, as much of the movement is more graceful and the solo dancer Bari seems too dramatically connected to the other dancers. Sravinsky's original envisioning, which was used by Nijinsky, was a sacrificial virgin seemingly abandoned by the others around her, left to dance herself into oblivion. Nijinsky's choreography for her was robotic, labored, and a far cry from the performance above which is fluid and widespread
this huge orgy

This isn't the Danse Sacrale. It's the Glorification de l'Élue.

@Susannekaffeekanne I-gor Stra-vin-sky is a son of a bitch, yes. It would be a little strange to rail against someone who didn't write the piece, no?

@ltgerbilmuffin I thought, Rimsky Korsakow, because he tought Stravinsky...
