I'm gonna sum up the whole "sXe sucks" thing. There's nothing wrong with the actual lifestyle. It's the fact that you need to label yourself as straight edge that gives the impression that you think you're better than everyone else. If that weren't the case, why do you need everyone to know? From my standpoint, I don't go off and preach about it and randomly announce I'm straight edge, I only say it in response to those who assume or ask if I do drugs, smoke and drink. Am I to face it? Because that's the image that the sXe scene created for itself. It's not your fault, they just picked up a bad rep. So by calling your self "straight edge" your opening yourself that stereotype regardless of whether it's true or not. One of my best friends is straight edge I don't think that way at all. But alot of people do.

@APregnantTeenager Well where I live, such beliefs and lifestyle choice isn't mocked or loked down upon. Hell, I think I'm the only straight edge person in my school/town. Not literally, but straight edge isn't a spawning of cockiness or arrogance, it's shockingly respected, even by the drug users. But I guess it depends on where you're from of how informed your society is. But people who have to announce and rub in the fact that they are straight edge are kind of ruining it, hence your point.

But in no way does he or I give off a superior feel or mindset to those who do drugs. It sounds hypocritical the ("drugs are for losers" banner), but it's just merely a storyline. It is using the label as a simple way to get out a message that there is a community of of people that don't drink, etc. because they don't want to go with that lifestyle and if people are educated enough about it that they perhaps would like to be apart of this community. Knowing how to have fun sober and so on.

Glad someone responded to the I hate straight edge video, but I just wanted to mention a few things. The lyrics to Out of step by Minor Threat are Don't smoke, Don't drink, Don't F#*K. That is where the abstaining from promiscuous sex comes from. Also I don't think many people know what emo really is. What you are talking about isnt true emo. Emo came out of the hardcore scene and Embrace is one of the earlier emo bands and was fronted by Ian MacKaye himself who coined the phrase straight edge.
