Breadwinner: There are plenty of other ways to explain what we might be doing when we "pray". The essential thing is that one CAN speak as though there is an independent being who listens. The brain doesn't care but receives the messages anyway and focuses on the thoughts in a meditative way. In fact, I would say that it "works" better if the mind isn't trying to explain "what is really happening" while we do this.
(For some reason my last comment didn't post. My apologies if it shows up again.)
Thanks for a great video! I also want to recommend Plato's "Evening Prayer" (Republic 571) to all non-theists who may be enjoy meditation, contemplation or philosophical prayer. Thanks again.
Excellent! I would also like to recommend Plato's "Evening Prayer" (Republic 571) to all those philosophically-minded non-theists. It is basically a method/ritual of orienting one's self before sleep. Thanks for the great video.
Sable I think will appreciate your cat at the end. your video response was Respectfully done Thank you very much for that and for your prospective on the mater of prayer.
"I almost pulled my video because I thought no one would get it."
I wouldn't recommend pulling a vid just because it doesn't find an audience. Even if one person views the vid and changes his or her mind just a little bit, it's done its job. All of our discussions here on YT have a cumulative effect, and your voice is desperately needed. That's not to say that I always agree with you, but I always value what you have to say.
prayer is nonsense, your talking to noone but your self when u pray , its just ridiculous that people actually think a god is listening or even cares

"prayer is nonsense"
Clearly, this is NOT the case. People throughout history have reported positive results from prayer, just two of them are sablechicken and Mike Sarno.
"your talking to noone but your self when u pray"
That may very well be the case, but it doesn't invalidate prayer.
"its just ridiculous that people actually think a god is listening or even cares"
If it's ridiculous, but it works, then it's not ridiculous.
