its most deffinatly a rod knocking i have a 98 silverado and i blew my rods out ha your gonna most likely need a new motor...it sucks big time....ur rods might be bouncing around and hitting ur bearings wich causes more damage and moree money to dish out..

i had a 98 firebird with same sound.I think you bent a pushrod or two.Check the area to see where the sound is coming from exactly.If so you might need a new cam too.
