  • Try slipping the HX100V into your pocket Dude..... As for the loose strap.... make the loop smaller by tying a not in it.

These cameras are aimed at different sectors of the market. I am not sure what the purpose of you're review is.

  • @iamyourfuture808 - You're right. When I put the HX100V in my pocket, people look at me really strange in the city, lol. Seriously, though--I took a trip recently and brought the HX9V. I felt a little guilty, knowing the HX100V was sitting at home...but I tell you what--the HX9V is a super sharp performer. The photo and video quality are awesome and the camera just loves to hang out in a small pocket waiting for a great video/photo opp. The wide angle lens is killer, too!

  • I think you should be comparing the 9v to another compact. And you should compare the 100v to something like the Nikon P500 or P510 when it's released.

  • dpreview suggests that the image quality of the HX9v is slightly better than the one of the HX100v. any thoughts on that?

thanks a lot for the review

  • @052CD94877 - Image differences between the two would be attributed to the lens, since cameras have the same sensor. The wide angle lens is pretty sweet on the HX9V, though. ;)

  • Thanks! Really good review. Looking forward to more reviews as well as tips.

  • Thanks for the review I almost bought the HX100V but then noticed the wide lense on the HX9V to me much more important.

  • LONG EXPOSURE VIDEO ???????????????????????

  • Great comparison, but how do you compare the image stabilization of these cameras in video mode? I have the hx9v and I can't believe how well it stabilizes the video.

  • @lsbrasil - The stabilization on both cameras is comparable. I've taken some trips since I did this comparison video. I put the HX9V in my pocket and got some really incredible video and pictures because the camera is so highly portable. You're right--the image stabilization is impressive on this handheld.

  • I bought my 100/v the day after Christmas, and am still playing around with it, but really love this camera!

Question: I have set my video mode to 720p mainly because of the fact I can capture more video on my chip. Is there a HUGE difference in quality between this and the 1080p?

  • @crisperjr - That's a good question and one that many people debate. To be honest, depending on the viewing distance from the television and the size of the TV, many people won't notice a huge different between 720 and 1080. I notice the difference, but I'm still amazed by 720p video. I grew up watching over-the-air television broadcasts that had fuzzy reception so any HD source looks great to me! 720 has definite advantage in terms of processing, especially over 1080 video at 60fps.

  • Awesome review. One of the best I have found on youtube and it was really useful. Keep up the good work, please!

  • I liked the review 'cause you took your time to do a part by part comparison, and the videos were cool but they belong to a different category. I know, you were asked to do the comparison. Another thing is that you are bitching too much for tiny details, remember the 9V is compact and as far as it goes the 9V is probably the best out there, nonetheless imperfect as everything. The movable screen on the 100V is great but again, she ain't for traveling it's just too big

  • @juanjillocr - The 3 points I emphasized about the HX9V, in comparison to the HX100V, were (1) Wind noise with mic, (2) Small [Movie] record button and (3) no viewfinder. The HX100V is better in these three areas, no doubt about it. The movie record button is a problem because it is difficult to hit record quickly and oftentimes results in video that starts recording then stops--you end up with a 1 second snippet. Those items aside, wide angle lens and portability are great on HX9V.

  • @BinaryCafe Thanks for replaying. Now, have you tried the Panasonic LX5? If so, which one would recommend, the LX5 or the HX9V?

  • you can be very pre-size with iso on the 100v

  • @BinaryCafe, Hi mate, great video as usual. I'm buying the HX100V soon but there is a choice of 2 revisions, the US NTSC version (which is about $50 cheaper) and the EU version. What is the difference between the NTSC and the EU version and why the price difference? How will the differences affect me as an casual user and editor...

  • @T3chnoJunk13 - The main difference between the cameras is the supported video standard. It's NTSC for US version, which does 60fps AVCHD. The PAL version does 50fps AVCHD. If any other viewers have the non-US version, it would be great to hear what your experience is and if there are any other significant feature differences. :)

  • Hi Sir, I was so convinced of your comments on the HX 100V that a few days ago I bought one and am more than satisfied.

    Thank you very much !

    Happy New Year from Israel.

  • hello, sir. merry christmas. how much video could you get with a 4gb memory card? because all i have is that. which kinda sucks.

  • @CelineDionFan4568 - Well, it depends on what video mode you shoot in. If you shoot in the highest quality AVCHD PS mode (28M), you can only get about 18 minutes of video on a 4GB card. If you shoot in MP4 mode [only 30fps], you should be able to get about 40 minutes worth of video. There are a lot of other settings in between, but memory cards are really cheap nowadays and you can get a 16GB or 32GB to increase the capacity quite a bit. But...mp4 is good and easier to edit!

  • Who camera is better the HX100V or SLT-A35Y ?

    Thanks :D

  • @zero7nemesis7 - The zoom is much better on the HX100V, but the A35 is a digital SLR with translucent mirror technology. If low light pictures are important for you and zoom isn't as important, take a serious look at the A35. It might be worth the extra money. You can buy more lenses for the A35. The camera I really want right now is the Sony A77. Maybe check that one. It costs a lot more, but wow--it's a great camera. I'd love to get my hands on that camera to review it.

  • you are top class reviewer, im buying DSC-HX100V, why ? more option, with just a hundred bucks difference.

  • Arent these two different in class? It seems a bit unfair to compare both of them in the same arena. Unless they're tagged at nearly the same price. For some beginners they might find HX100V a bit too hard to use, in the other hand, when you go travelling somewhere, HX9V is the best option.

  • @godsent110587 - They are both superzoom camera and are very close to one another in price (between $50 to $100 difference, only...depending on seller). Plus, I try to give viewers what they ask for and I had dozens of requests asking me to compare these two cameras. I can't always compare cameras--if I don't own them--but I bought both of these so I was able to compare the two. HX9V is a great travel camera and the wide angle lens is nice.

  • Indeed HX100V is awesome in Video quality but it seem HX9V surpasses HX100V in Picture Quality ......... A little bit, why is that ??? I wonder

  • Thanks a lot Michael for uploading this video, coz my mind was set to buy the HX9V, but now i determine to buy the HX100V. Does one use the HX100v for the professional photography instead of DSLRs ??? And how the battery (H-Type) response of HX100V, does it really last longer than battery (G-type) used in HX9V ?? Which one u prefer to buy if money doesn't matter ?How much point u give out of 100 to both of the camera ?

  • @TheBhavin20feb - In my opinion, a pro photographer can take great photos with nearly any camera. A DSLR helps with the overall quality, especially in low light situations and with various lenses being available to help provide different composition. Battery is quite good on HX100V (betw 3-4 hours for stills), definitely longer lasting than HX9V battery. I have both. I use the HX100V much more than the 9V. How's this: HX100V gets 92/100 and HX9V gets 84/100 for superzooms.

  • After watching all videos of DSC-HX100V, I was going to ask you about comparison between these two cameras but I got my answer after watching this video. Thank you very much.

  • Hi, i have a question. Ur videos help me with my 100v. But i got the EU version, so here is some questions:

    1. If i shoot video in best quality, my battery counter tells me i have 79 mins of battery (With max screen light) Do ur cam also says that?

    2. I've tryed shooting with the M mode in dark. What is the best settings for that?

    3. When i zooms with optical zoom, is on 3.6 at "the zoom bar" white square is in the middle of the bar. Also same for you?

    4. You're Awesome!

  • Really good review. The only thing putting me off the HX100V is the 27mm lens. That and the fact its a bridge camera over a DSLR. I need a good camera for shooting videos on a wide angle. I'm considering the FZ150 now as an alternative.

  • thanks a lot... cant wait to have the hx100v...

  • which has better video capture? resolution and quality wise.... pls help.....

  • @badzbadua6 - Yes have the same sensor and both can use either AVCHD or MP4 at the same resolutions. From a technical perspective they're the same. The HX100V has lower wind noise, can be mounted on a tripod and powered at the same time, has the flip-up screen, a more powerful lens...for me, those things result in better and more consistent video quality.

  • Amazing review. Best i have seen to date. Thanks

  • Is the sony dsc hx100 compatible with a (class 10 SDHC) 32 GB memory card?

  • @roobert505 - Yes

  • The video was really informative . Thanks

  • The HX9V looks better in both videos and pictures to me, better shadow detail. The HX100V has the better zoom and pivoting screen

  • why compare cameras in totally difference classes?

  • @Anoon - rukm? They're both superzooms, they're both made by Sony, they have the same sensor, they share many of the same features, they're both in the HX line... Main reason, though is because dozens of people have asked for a comparison of the two.

  • @BinaryCafe What type of camera did you use to shoot this video?

  • @PJames7975 - I used the Sony DSC-HX1, which was the predecessor to the HX100V. I still use that camera a lot for making YouTube vids.

  • Thanks!

  • MIchael thanks for the video i am getting HX100V in this month. Really the features are good as my fav. Vivitar SL400. I tried to buy HX9v but the usb connection which you said thanks . If i didn't see the video of urs i will be disappoint by taking the HX9V.

  • Great review. Unusually though, you've made my mind up on these cameras that I don't want either lol. Having owned the HX9V and needing the great wide angle that has in my videos I just don't think the HX100V cuts it. Cheers for the video!!

  • Both great great cameras let down by serious flaws. The HX9V's early batches had a huge issue where the zoom ring was extremely jumpy and completely unusable in the video mode. Seemingly resolved in the latest batches however. The HX100V is only 27mm and this crops a bit when using video mode so its realistically more like a 30ish mm which is crap in fairness. Would have been nice to have .mov format and 24fps movie mode too. Still good cameras all the same and I love the zoom ring on the HX100V

  • i fucking love u (no homou) cos u talk abowt the same camera i got i am a biginer on this and y help me a lot thaks

  • My HX100V's very long optical telephoto max of x16.2 (equiv to 35mm), places me as much as 16 times closer to the birds I've always wanted to photograph. The HX9V has an optical max of x7.7, great but not fantastic. (I don't care about the much-touted zoom ratio--I'm unlikely to go from a bug an inch from me to a bird 100 feet from me in the same video.) We also have the older Sony DSC-H3 (zoom 10x and max tele x7.6) and Canon SX200IS (zoom 12x but max tele a bit less at x6.7). All very good.

  • Thanks for the video!

  • Very useful Video. I really like the way you explain to the detail. Kudos and please let such videos keep coming.

It'd be even more useful if you could compare HX 100V with any of the other cameras like Nikon P500, Lumix FZ 100 & Fujifilm Finepix HS20 EXR.

Thanks again for such a great Video and i truly appreciate it.

  • I like the clarity of briefing. It is clear and complete.

    Shankarhn

  • Michael do you know if the HX100V can yake pictures directly to a PC ? Thanks !

  • Great video as always !
