Lol in choir, our teacher turned off all the lights and it was pitch black. I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face. And then he tried scaring us by knocking chairs over and stuff x'D Freakin fun. The worst part was we couldn't leave our chairs. So we were stuck. In the dark.
to me this is the most moving and amzingly beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. I have also had the opportunity to perfom this song in a choir!
my choir is doing this song! i'm so excited cuz my choir teacher put me in the high part and i'm only a freshman so I'm kinda scared :P but it's going to be fun!! :)
We just started this today in choir. I'm part 2. I learned today that the strange noises I make on a daily basis have PURPOSE. Hurray for the massive amounts of harmonics~
My Choir is performign this and im an 11i only sing 2 notes after the begging lol this is truely an amazing song im so stoked for it its eerie that overtone is hard to hit but we have almost got it were performing in oct i
indeed. it's one of the most basic ways to teach a choir that music is not all about the sound of an individual, but of all the pieces coming together to form a unified whole.
I wish we could have performed music like this in our choir. The director always gave us very easy songs, a limited selection of songs, and worked those songs for so long that when we finished each song we hated it.
We're doing this song in my choir, and we're a combination of scared and excited for it. I think i'll learn my part quick though, i'm part 7 for those who have sung this before, and so far its pretty simple. It's nice to hear a finished product of this song though.
I am pretty sure this is from Sarah Hopkins' album so obviosly it's very good, but it's a relife to finally here a decent versions outside of chanticleer's on youtube, every other choir takes this piece way too fast and destroys its effect.
@Magarathea Nah, NJ All-State did well with it in 2010, though the overtone soloists were set way too high in the hall, and only 1 could make himself heard. He's one with the natural talent. Although, done right, and I've heard this done with Sarah Hopkins conducting, mock-overtone singing should be employed from the beginning. I love the white space at 2:15, was done just right.
I was also part 5! Man I loved singing this song... This was recoreded the year before I joined Pro Cantu though : /

if nuclear fusion was a song, it'd be this one. it sounds like mercury wash and metal voices under the swirling infrared of desert sun. beautiful.

In my opinion, this song note wise is not difficult but more so, getting the right feeling/expression behind every note.
You would it to sound...primitive I guess?? Just not all la-dee-da, lol.
