  • I used a simple formula to calculate my tank size. 1mm of rain on 1m2 of roof yields 1 litre of water. So roof area x average monthly rainfall is your monthly collection (eg, 30mm on 120m2 = 3600 litres). Compare this figure with average monthly usage. If they add up, you're in business. Aim to store at least 3 months' average rainfall (more or less, depending on reliability), and you should be ok. I have only rainwater at my place. It's beautiful!
